2009 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley

Food: Australian Grill
Duration: 2 hours
Condition: perfect
Aroma: coffee, blackberry, spices, pepper
Notes: decanted right away. My occasional visit to Australia brought me to a little wineshop and found this bottle. The comic made a big introduction on this wine so I thought it would be interesting for me to try. Very thick and dense, very intensive aroma. The unfiltered approach definitely makes the wine smoother and more approachable. Quite a strong coffee nose, aftertaste lasts for more than 40 seconds. Very elegant wine comparing to other Australian ones. Drink 2018+.

Opened 2 hours prior. Dark purple garnet. Deep bouquet of dark fruit and some alcohol notes. Palate is wide and deep but very polished. Tannins are imperceptibly fine now but oak and tannin framework provide structure to the intense display of old vine fruit here. Very impressive balance although a style that will not be to everyone's liking.

Superb pairing with 7-hour lamb.

Opaque ruby to purple. Nose is blueberries, tobacco, and black pepper. Tannins are fine and acidity just right to balance the fruit - perfectly in balance. Paired with grilled striploin, baked cauliflower, Italian bread an olive oil. Best meal and wine paring in months.

Day 2 review. Open for business. Black pepper, spices, blueberries, blackberries and floral notes. Medium to long finish and complex. Very good wine and just as good as a few years back.

Very generous sweet fruit and vanilla oak notes. An abundance of blueberries, but also blackberries and cherries.
The palate continues in the same style with a jammy dense expression and high in alcohol. The acidity is very present but not well integrated.
The wine is big, bold and lacking in elegance.

This wine was quite a nice surprise. I was kind of expecting it to be a mess, but it wasn't. Not in the least. Blackberry and blueberry pie notes dominate, with hints of fig, plum, and a savory bbq element. The palate is more lifted and black cherry accented. Supple in the mouth with a just a touch of acidity on the finish. Drinking really well now but certainly could hold for a couple more years. 90-91 points

Still a very dark ruby, some slight fading to rim. Full of blackberry and blueberry fruits, cloves, dark chocolate and some plum. Still carrying lovely fruit, very rich, velvety. Smooth tannins, good acid structure. Long. Somehow manages to come across with a freshness and liveliness in spite of prodigious alcohol. Very good Barossa Shiraz, great value.

Bottle #5 of a 6 bottle OCC. Popped and poured, in the middle of a HK winter - bottle at room temperature (c. 20 degrees celsius).

Dark purple color, medium viscosity. On the nose, blackberries and blueberries, with hints of chocolate. Full bodied, with smooth, very well integrated tannins, some sweetness, slight alcohol heat. Good for what it is - "powerful but not over the top" definitely a great summary from DREDWARDO.

I generally prefer lighter wines, but on a cold winter night, this really hit the spot!

Color: Deep Purple, no fade. Nose: Black fruit, especially blackberry, black current, and black cherry, along with violet, licorice. Explosive after 45 minutes in a wide-bottomed decanter. Palate: Rich. Full bodied. Voluptuous. Redolent with black fruit especially blackberry as well as crème de cassis and a slight touch of licorice. the wine unfolded on the palate as a rich, almost port-like wine. The tannins were smooth, there was good acidity, and there was no heat given its 14.5% abv. The finish was long and most enjoyable. A mouthful of wine.

Very similar to tasting last Spring; 90 mins of air in the bottle really opened this up, shows meat, leather and a mixture of dark fruit and herbs. In a very nice place. Although Mrs wasn't a huge fan, our guests and I really enjoyed this. Drink through 2019.

A smooth, well balanced, rich oz wine. I am not a big fan of shiraz as i prefer strong tannins and edge, but admittedly this is as good as a shiraz gets! Good acidity yet smooth, while not too much fruit, all around.

Much better than prior bottle; really beginning to question the coravin as I'm finding non-CV'd bottles to be better than those previously accessed. Uncorked, not decanted, allowed to breathe for 2 hours. Meaty flavor has softened with age, shows great balance.
