2007 Glaetzer Shiraz The Bishop

Started with a nice bouquet of blackberries and ripe dark fruit. After a couple of hours decanting aromas opened up and revealed cocoa, cinamon, cloves and more sweet spices. Fulled bodied with grippy/coating tannins it paired nicely with a rich, sweet stew. In the glass it evolved and showed a good depth of concentrated fruit with a complex variety of spice and aromas.

Reddish orange black with a clear watery edge with a nose dominated by a strong presence of acetone and refined fruits. The palate is quite full and flavorsome with notes of prunes, vanilla ice cream, boiled meat, earth and minerals. This wine tastes very smooth and mellow at age 10. It’s exuberant fruitiness has long settled down and nicely integrated with the oak. I think this is well into its peak (or perhaps on its decline) and does not have any prospects of gettting any better. Its best to drink up and enjoy for all its worth now.

No real obvious signers of age on this. A big wine with loads of fruit, but it balances this and its high alcohol beautifully and is clean and refreshing. Well done.

This is a classic, well made Barossa Valley Shiraz. Big, dense and in your face, but really well balanced for this style. Drinking well after a couple of hours of double decanting with exceptional depth and length. This is in a very good place for me right now, and while I think this has many years ahead of it, I think I'll drink up my last bottle in the next few years, before the fruit starts taking a turn towards stewed. Excellent!

I can understand why this wine is not for everyone but it does have depth/seconary flavors that go beyond the massive palate. Not sure how much better it gets from here.

Full bodied fruit bomb, great mouth feel and flavor, still with ample legs on it. My criticism is that it's a little sweet for my tastes, although I was in a minority on this aspect; my friends quite enjoyed this one.

Good on opening, plenty of blue fruit, big but not bomby, but this faded by day two and was just okay. '05, not showing signs of degrading but best drunk same night as opened, not improved by air overnight.

Dinner with Friends (Crown Wine Cellars, 18 Deep Water Bay Drive, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Decanted for 7 hours before serving to accompany four rich Italian cheeses. Colour is totally inpenetrable black-red. Nose defies specificity....rather like when drinking a First Growth from a great vintage......just a fugue of sensations like Miles Davis playing a trumpet on the theme of 'purple'. The palate has an immediate acid-fruit balance followed by an incredible tsunami wave of total capitulation. No subtlety but amazing harmony......An Awesome Wave. Runny and I uncovered this in our 'The Next Grange' hunt several 6 or 7 years ago. Wow, wow..... I was blown away by this tonight. 96+

Didn't take tasting notes, but it left an impression I still remember four days after consuming. Interesting gradation in the wine, at least 4 distinct hews from the center out to the rim, which is indicative of its age. While it has big, bold fruit, it also had distinct floral and earthy notes of violets, lavender, licorice and graphite. The tannins were well integrated when we started drinking it after a 4.5 hour decant. The wine is in a nice place right now and has a few years remaining before it starts going down hill. However, if you have time to decant for at least 3 hours before drinking I don't think there is a need to wait. There doesn't seem to be any aspects of the wine that haven't full evolved yet and there is nothing out of sorts about its profile. All time will do is thin things out. Overall a very nice wine and an especially complex one for a big Aussie Shiraz. That said, it does not warrant its price tag.

Немного переоцененное вино. Резкое, кислотное с ярко выраженным алкоголем. На мой взгляд весьма простое. Попробую через год, может что-то изменится.

I was looking for a bottle and found this one. Pity I did not read my previous note; I should have waited a bit longer. Ok, the wine is drinking well right now; full bodied with black forest fruits and supple and round tannin. But it is all a bit one dimensional at the moment. I think that with more age it will show more finesse and complexity. I really should put my last bottle far away, so I will not touch it before 2016 or 2017.

Just a tad baked when opened athough I had it stored in a closet for a month before opening, maybe 65-70 degrees during this time. Still, from a time of ripeness down under, and not in a good way, this was approaching the point of no return but backed off, especially with 15 minutes a la refrigerator. Ultimately a peppery, pruny nose, with deep, dark, pruned berry on the palate to accompany cracked pepper, heat and baked notes. Great? No way. Should be consumed soon.

Dark garnet, full bodied. high alcohol
Dark fruits, plums, some all spice, chocolate, leather off the nose
Tastes like the nose would indicate, mouth filling powerhouse, some acidity, faint tannins, stand alone easy drinker. Dark cherries, juicy.

A decent wine for sure. A little too juicy for my liking, but that's what one expects with this varietal.

Wow - what a difference a few years makes. This wine is so much more polished and balanced than it was a few years back. Drinking beautifully with a long rich finish. Fig paste, dark berries and vanilla. Still has enough acidity to last for five more years or longer
