I haven't been blown away by the wines from Grand Reve...they have been largely overblown and way too ripe for my palate.
That being said, I've adored the wines from Ross Andrew Winery, and was pleased to see that Ross Mickel, the Ross Andrew owner/winemaker, made this wine.
Opened and consumed over 2 hours.
This is a fabulous effort, in every way. Beautiful deep black/purple in color, fading to a tawny rim.
The nose and palate show off red and black cherry, pomegranate, pepper, moist earth, and spice. The tannins are smooth and sultry, with medium acidity and a long, satisfying finish that echoes the fruit and spice.
This wine is complex and very well balanced, showing nice maturity. It has reached a nice level of maturity now, and should continue to drink well through 2023 or so...but it is absolutely brilliant now, so I will consume my remaining 2 bottles by 2019 or so. Delicious.
I am enamored with the wines of Ross Mickel.

Gorgeous, opulent, seductive Syrah. The, oh, let's go,with Jessica Alba of Syrahs. Full of body, but oh so much more! Silky and smooth, with voluptuous sweet fruit and plenty of structure. Blueberries, plums and a hint of cassis, with sweet spice notes: vanilla, cinnamon (?) and a hint so violets. Some gaminess and a dollop of tar on the finish that lasts for 45 seconds or more. This is a Syrah to delete the senses and the intellect.

Big and lush. Easy to approach and full bodies with loads of fruit balanced against backbone (for Syrah) and medium + acid.

Decanted 1.5 hrs. Dusty cassis type fruit profile with dark wood, green pepper, and tobacco accents. Fairly full and robust upon entry, this narrows a bit on the mid and into the finish before it regains some steam on the moderate length finish. Nice brightness and intensity, though a bit more complexity would be welcome. Also, the leaner mid palate did not hold up well to a grilled rib eye.

I'd give this a couple more years in cellar to see if the mid palate fleshes out and opens up a bit more. In the 88-90 range today

uncorked for 45 min's, decanted for 45 min's. Next time, cud probably go 30/30. This is great stuff that is ready to go right away. The fruit is not over-ripe, but very nice. Seems to be made to be drunk today and not made to be held for decades. very nicely put together. Definitely will be ordering more. Had with grilled filet mignon and went well. Had an '07 Waters Syran Forgotten Hills last night and these are in the same class, but that was $59. The CT drink by window is 2021 and while it's only 2015, not sure if I want to wait till 2021 for the evolution of this beauty. Winemaker is Chris Gorman.

A beautifully made wine, light bodied for a viognier and very elegant and classy. Satisfying stone fruits with a nice burst of spice toward the end, and just a hint of orange on the finish. Wonderful QPR.

Vintage Wines cab tasting. Up against other Napa cabs. One of my least favorites at the highest price point. Needs time to probably show itself. Certainly decent but unable to tell how much better might get. I drink almost no Washington cabs but this isn't the one to necessarily get me to start as don't see the QPR.

This came out of magnum mildly effervescent - which usually suggests improper cellaring [bought at auction]. Thankfully it blew off after about an hour - and the fully rounded, big fruit wine profile that typically characterizes this label shone through. While I'm not a huge fan of the QPR for this winery, this particular bottle may have been the best I've had.

More elegant and balanced than I was expecting, this is in a very good place now, but for my palate, not sure it's getting better from here. A pop N pour that showed well across two hours, with supple red and blue fruits on the palate. Meaty, and even a little gamey, with a gentle sprinkling of black pepper and soil. A pleasure to drink and was like something of a magnet to the pancetta in my creamy pasta dish. recommended

Served non-blind.

Violet in color. 13.6% ABV. Red fruits, plums, leather and Christmas spice on the nose. Medium body with light acidity. Ripe cherries, licorice, chalk and cranberries on the palate. Gritty tannins on a nice, long finish. Interesting wine that pushes the envelope of ripeness. Drink over the next 1-2 years.

A light and refreshing wine that is pleasing to drink now. Nose of lime and orange, almost white in color, lighter in body than expected for a 100% Viognier. Tastes of lemon, pear, and stone, with a flinty finish that suggests WA can do light whites with the best of them. 14.3% alcohol.

2012 Grand Rêve Vintners / Force Majeure Syrah Estate

Red Mountain more

5/4/2015 - msuwright Likes this wine: 93 points

An intense, graceful, and satisfying Syrah. Dark ruby in color; nose of blackberry and charcoal; full in body. Dense tastes of blueberry, plum, graphite, and pepper, with a chalky, somewhat dry finish and mouth-coating tannins (as one would expect for a Syrah this age). This is impressive, in part, for what it is not; it avoids the varietal extremes of over-ripeness or gaminess. Instead, it offers a compelling, even charming Syrah. Although it does not quite reach the heights the WA score would suggest, it is a promising wine. Decant for at least an hour and, if you can, wait a year or two, since it will almost surely improve with time. Soft and plush on second day.

- Crimsom color - Well balanced syrah, with good fruit core. Finely layered, deep complexity without the typical fleshy or peppery flavors that a lot of Syrahs have. Is youthful and restrained, this wine seems to have a lot of life left, will be interesting to see how it is in a few years. An excellent wine.

The subtle notes of caramel came through after the initial dry nose. Full bodied and rich but no fruit. I don't get any grenache in the nose at all.
