11/28/2009 - cmkjbs wrote: 88 pointsStartlingly intense nose -- I could smell my glass from two arms lengths away. Raisin and raspberry jam up front. A few sips revealed dark chocolate covered cherries and a hint of white pepper. This wine is quite tight, biting tannins and some heat, though not enough to throw it off balance. I don't mind young wines but in a few years, this could be even better. Off to seek out a few more bottles for the cellar. |

Just a bit hot on the finish, but, overall, a decent effort. Don't trust the "drinking window." This wine has peaked, and won't keep much longer. Drink up. |

9/3/2009 - JorgeH wrote: 88 pointsInteresting bottle. Popped and poured. Out of the gate it was quite restrained and reserved. After some time in the glass, and a little warm-up, I started to get, dare I say, elegant notes of dark chocolate, cedar planks, black olives and red fruit. In the mouth, the tannins were integrated but still assertive and the decent acidity countered the innate richness that mirrored the initial aromas of chocolate, berries, etc. Towards the end it started getting a little tart and thin. Would probably have been better a year or two ago, but still an interesting drink nonetheless. At around $10 a joy to drink on an everyday basis. |

5/25/2009 - Patas wrote: 91 pointsVery fruit forward in the nose and palate. Blueberry jam, a bit of strawberry: borderline with being too sweet. Very noticeable oak the first day (mostly integrated by the second). Big weight in the palate but rather short finish. High score because it's just delicious and I'm not in "wine geek" mode today. |

7/19/2008 - Bacchant wrote: 92 pointsDeep garnet color with ruby rim. A powerful nose of dark fruit, spice, & appreciable oak. Extraordinarily balanced on the palate. All the dark fruit [plums, blackberries, & cherries], creamy oak, brown spices, & vibrant acidity are all integrated very well; no single component is more pronounced than any other. Still drinking exceptionally well for a `97. [14.5% abv.; $15 (an absolute steal!)]. |

4/13/2008 - Rich S wrote: 88 pointsHad this wine toward the end of the night after having numerous wines so I did not take detailed notes. However, this was a very enjoyable zin. Very dark color. Loads of black and red fruits but not jammy, more restrained in style. Typical zin black pepper flavors as well. However, at this price point I have had better so I would not rebuy based on QPR. |
