The aroma here is smaller, light, bright, and shows a little alcohol as it opens. There's a sour note on the first pour, but that fades quickly. Color is a deep purple. It's light in flavor, somewhat smooth, but a little sharp, this has bright fruit, and some light oak that appears as it opens up. Some darker elements are hinted at, but remain in the shadows of the flavor. Tannins are of only medium strength, perhaps on the weaker side.

This bottle was absolutely fantastic. Most everyone here, including myself, drank this too early as it is a completely different wine at this point. Confident, interesting, and elegant with a plenty of old world charm giving energy to the red fruit and leather. If I rated wines, which I don't, I would give this 92 points for its captivating balance, however, balance doesn't win points here were this wine is only an 88. Shame as this is more interesting than 95% of wines I drink, many of them more expensive.

Youthful nose with medium aroma intensity. Aromas of butterscotch, fudge, vanilla, red fruit, blackberries, blackcurrants, anise seeds and some chocolate.

Medium acidity, that feels somewhat flabby. Medium tannins, medium bodied, medium intensity and a decent medium+ finish.

Can only agree with karl_ek, this is plagued by way over the top malolactic fermentation.

The color is clear, medium intensity ruby.

The nose is youthful with a medium aroma intensity. Initially some aromas of black fruit and cassis that are totally overpowered by oak and MLF notes. After a while in the glass there's pretty much just cola, fudge, butterscotch, butter, vanilla and chocolate.

The wine is dry, with a medium acidity, medium(+) tannins and medium(+) body. The flavor intensity is medium with flavors of cassis, jammy black fruit, oak, sweet coffee, vanilla and fudge. The finish is medium.

This was not much fun. Too much MLF with too little fruit to balance it. No thanks.

Wine was good....but there was a lot of sediment (way more than usual) in the strainer as I decanted it. Wine was still good, however.

Too big and harsh on day 1 to enjoy. Two days later...much more supple. Baked cherry fruit aromas. Slightly sweetly stewed. Maybe some caramel? Pencil shavings. Woody, roasted veg and meat juices. Just a touch of a menthol lift. Palate delivers some fleshy sweet yet savory fruit. Very merlot. Some peppery heat in the mid palate, but not overpowering. Juicy through the finish. Leaves cherry and strawberry vanilla flavors. Very pleasant.

This is one of the more enjoyable wines I have tasted in a while. It is just a slight bit of concentration away from being a mid 90 something point wine. This 2011 seems to be their current release. For a mid $20 wine, this is a real mouth full of flavor. The nose has an expressive, vibrant, rich, spicy, cranberry, mocha, menthol. blueberry, blackberry and smoke aroma. The palate sports a spicy, brooding deep plum and black cherry fruitiness. Secondary flavors of licorice, lead pencil, vanilla, charcoal and cocoa bean. Really nice integration of plenty of oak and tannin. Balanced, maturing acidity. Some rhubarb and concentrated blackberry preserves on the finish.

Continues to drink well - dark red color & throwing a light sediment. Red currants, black cherry, dill & menthol on nose. On palate, medium body with cassis, black cherry, dried cherry with medium+ acidity on medium+ finish. Really enjoyed this - has improved since my last note in 7/2013. 91-92 range. 92 if had to give a number. Rebuy.

Dark dark red, verging on brown. Overtly fruit driven, but also apparent cream, walnut, heavy oak, cocoa and coffee on the nose, and berries, touch of cedar, black pepper on the palate. Surprisingly low tannins, feels lush in a somewhat strange way, especially for a syrah. Interesting, will probably be markedly different in 3-5 years.

Medium to full bodied. Dark brambly fruit, excellent concentration and exciting acidity. Eucalyptus and sweet tannins on the finish. Very good length. Very well balanced. The bottle was open for about 4 hours before reviewing. Will probably buy more for the cellar.

Initial complexity on the nose with pencil shavings, burnt chocolate and licorice. Similar notes on the palate. After a couple hours in the decanter the wine seems to be completely falling apart. The sugar, acidity, tannins and alcohol are completely out of balance and very awkward. Over the next two days in the decanter it takes on far more subtle fruit and floral notes. The acidity is still making itself known and the tannins are grainy, but overall the balance is much better. It has become far less interesting but much more pleasant.

The aroma has a stronger sour element, and a hint of something underneath that I don't like. Color is lighter yellow. The flavor light and crisp, with some of the sour from the aroma. Aroma and flavor improve as it opens up; the hint I don't like almost disappears. Decent, but I'm not running out to buy more.

Tasted at about 60°F.

This is a well-made wine with good balance and complexity. A solid wine for the price that does overdo the fruit or tend to sweetness.

After a decant; Black cherry and cola on the palate, some buttery notes present, high acid. Extraction is big but not overdone to the point of it being cloying or bitter. Finish is on the shortside, but at under 20$ this is a very good value. Has some red mountain sweetness on the finish but still tastes balanced.
