"50-year-old Gamay vines on Schist from Dufaitre in the Beaujolais. It's Jeremy's only negoce label." NOSE: plump, ripe, sticky cherry and strawberry pulp, crushed quartz, lambsquarters, and accented with a distant, appetizing suggestion of VA (indice 1)—so faint I wonder if it's a ghost. MOUTH: steady, dry, voluptuous texture, filled with linear, grained detail. Dark fruit hides behind black minerals—a clever countershade. This broad, stable form provides a nutrient base for excursions of flavor that remind me of a double reed jam section. Savory resins of birch, yerba buena, and blond tobacco compete with peppered jam, poppyseed, salted bergamot, and shaded quarry. This effusive botany is exciting, even risky, while stone and ripe fruit casually swell to contain it. This has gravitas. It can be presented to all but the most skittish of nature-phobes.

Bright red fruit, light stemmy tannins, medium body. Great with a light chill.

Starts out earthy but opens up to dark fruit and spice. Tannic and heavier bodied, unusual for my idea of a Gamay but extremely satisfying with a ribeye and sweet potatoes with a yogurt-mint sauce. Acidic but mellows with food.

Red fruit, white pepper, very light brett and straw adding some personality.
Fresh acidity and firm body, although tannins are a bit subdued.
Long savoury finish bringing again a bit of brett and an impression like uncooked pasta.

Good complexity, interesting. I am not against a bit of "funk" if it is well integrated and this wine does well.

Sadly my last of a six-pack of this lovely pet-nat. While a bit too sweet at the end (which masks the eurofunk and complexity a bit), it is very pleasant and the low alcohol makes it great for lunch or sustained drinking.

Funky, reductive nose with tons of cranberry. Super light like the best Beaujolais. Crisp and fresh, and at 10.5% gulpable.

I am not sure what to think about this wine. Either I had a flawed bottle, or I just don't get this style. Very light, translucent, but cloudy. Somewhat bitter on the palate. Doesn't sound like the same wine described by the others.

P&p. Similar to how it was drinking on release - fresh plum/cranberry, mossy moist earth, flowers, black pepper - still fresh and vibrant, delicious, but seems headed downward, probably best to drink up.

Blind @work
Medium dull salmon-pink in the glass. Sparkling.
Nose: slightly lambic, earthy, oxidative. No autolysis.
Palate: Sweet (~20 g/L RS), just elevated acid (not standing up to the sugar), diminished alcohol ~9% (actually 10). Bubbles- a bit weak. Either petillant style or weak charmat/transfer.

I was stumped blind, but this is actually a classic style I should know:
-weak petillant bubbles, not as strong as Methode Champenoise
-low alcohol (~10%) and some RS (~20g/L).
- No autolysis, but some slightly bacterial notes.

--> This is a petillant naturel (pet nat, for short). Loire valley, France.
This is a style that's been embraced by the natural wine movement. Most well-known appellation is Montlouise (usually Chenin Blanc). Rose's could be Cab Franc or Gamay.

E&R's 1st Annual Salon des Vins de La Loire-egon et La Dive Bouteille (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): All Malbec (Cot here). Soft and rich aromas. Quite nice. Rich acid on palate entry, which is mellow and tart, including some green tones. Nice, though. More green pepper is noted on the finish, which is lean, but pretty.

Selection Massale with Sophie Barrett (Le Caveau, Chamblee, GA): A crispy, herbal, floral expression of Côt, with ample but supple tannin. I don't know how much of the herbaceousness is the character of the vintage and how much is the vineyard and producer style, but it wasn't at all unpleasant, it just took a moment to adjust as most of my experience with Côt is with the crystalline and pure Clos Roche Blanche.

P 'n p. Smells like flowers, spices including black pepper, hay, moist earth, and soft fruit. Similar on the palate, but brighter and fruitier, with tart juicy acidity. Fresh plummy fruit up front, then flowers and interesting peppery spice, hay, earth, and stony gravelly minerality come in. Extremely light and drinkable (10.5% abv!). Full of character and quite enjoyable. Seems ready to drink.

Still all kinds of lively. Growing weary of it only because it's essentially become my cuvée du patron. An unlikely pairing for a butterflied boneless leg of lamb, but it was perfectly fun this eve.

Best showing of this vintage yet -- no doubt because it's 90 degrees out, and a 10% abv fizzer at fridge-temp was in order this eve. But it also tasted better, somehow -- even when it warmed. I like beerzebub's note -- I've seen the strawberries before, but tonight the green apples were coming in pleasantly and strong..
