2009 Jasper Hill Shiraz Georgia's Paddock

Heathcote more

Deep colour; a ripe and attractive array of red and black fruits, with sage and licorice strap also on display; the palate is concentrated and full of black fruit and gravelly tannins; the finish is long, expansive and thoroughly impressive; the 14% alc/vol appears to be a good fit for this vineyard.

Love the Heathcotes generally. This is atypical at the moment - a big bruiser of a wine. Not really ready. Should be left another few years before trying again. However, good deep fruit and big tannins to keep us going into the future.

Very dark but not quite as dark as normal.
Deeply scented and very smooth, fruit driven - blueberry, violet and blood plum. Some dark spice, but more floral characters.
Silky smooth entry, fleshy middle and a crisp finish. Very fine tannins, soft and furry. Delicious blue fruits, ink, and a dark tar and licorice spice lingering on the finish. Has a more refined elegant style than perhaps I'm used to from older vintages. Totally delicious and very much an Emily's.

Lovely nose and it is an extremely easy drinking Shiraz. Good long finish too. Tannins fully integrated and smooth.

Eight years after my last taste, I'd say virtually the same thing. Still a beast, opulent but more drinkable than most of the premium Australian Shiraz. Agree with Tarheel, probably the best Aussie Shiraz ever for me. Drinking well now but I'm in no hurry to finish my last bottle, could easily sit another 5 years.

Drank this tonight at Wah Lok Cantonese Restaurant with my family and a family friend from overseas.

Ripe plums with an intoxicating and seductive nose with some liquorice and leather and rosewood.

Very ripe fruits on the palate. Energy is in abundance with a touch of sweetness and elegance. Beautifully integrated with a high alcoholic finish.

I've had about 4-5 bottles of the 1999 vintage JH Georgia's Paddock the past year-- I had another one last night. First off, of the handful of bottles, it is apparent that decanting 6+ hours is best. Huge nose of pure black fruit and graphite. The palate was stunningly balanced despite the 14+% alcohol... absolutely no heat... just black fruit, graphite, high toned minerality, and long black cherry finish. Drink up!

Another outstanding bottle from Down Under.
Can I say that if well-aged and from a good producer Shiraz is a world class grape?
Dark coloured. Complex to the bone on the nose.
Aromas of plums, blackberries, cooked meat, white chocolate among many others. A perfume.
Tremendous effort on the palate. Distinctly sweet entry, perfect balance and good length. Dry finish.
A good Cuban cigar would be the perfect mate.

Very dark with some ruby towards the rim. Not much sign of age.
Highly fragrant blueberry, plum, licorice and violets. Rich in fruit, dark spice, a little leather and blue florals.
Supple, medium weight, with excellent balance and long long flavour persistence. Blueberries, plums and damson fruits backed by gentle licorice and tar spice. Just a hint of earth/leather from old Shiraz, but really dominated by fruit still. Still has good tannins, but very fine and furry. Acidity is good too. Absolutely trademark JH Emily's Shiraz. Magnificently well built wine, at 27yrs feels like it could go another 10 easily.

Beautiful and ripe dark berry fruits, a firm amount of sweetness nicely balanced by good acidity. Round and soft tannin. A soft blockbuster. Already approachable and will improve with some cellaring. Try again around 2018/19. 90 – 91+ for tonight.

Color is still red with some brown hues.
Nose dried fruit, leather.
Palate is medium bodied, smooth and well rounded.
A lovely old wine, well aged considering the half bottle and (short) cork closure. Wish I had more left!

Prince Saturday tasting - Random selection (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): leather, cream and vanilla, ripe peppery spice and black berry…with time an almost chocolate note is perceptible. In the mouth there is red over black berry fruit, plentiful spice then considerable chewy tannic grip that is find textured, fruit persists. Very long. Very impressive. Very young

wow wow wow. Lovely color with just a slight brown edge, definitely does not look it's age.
Nose is lovely with some lovely berries, violets, so complex.
Palate is smooth and well rounded, no noticeable tannins.
This seems to be drinking wonderfully right now, a truly great wine. The high alcohol content is not noticeable at all. Wish I had more in my cellar!

For the price, definitely outshining its other peers in the $50-$100 Aussie shiraz category. Big upfront spice, eucalyptus and ripe fruit. With around ten years of age, the wine delivers a smooth and lingering finish that I don’t see breaking down anytime soon. As I said, stellar effort based on other Aussie shiraz’s falling around the same price point.
