Pale straw in the glass, moderately aromatic nose with yellow fruits, citrus and white floral notes, palate is dry, fruits are ripe, stone fruit, nectarine, sweet citrus, quince, red delicious apple, dried apricot, note of agave & white chocolate, rocky minerality, acidity is medium +, finish is long. Bit of bottle age has round out this gem. Fantastic QPR. |

1/24/2016 - HowardNZ Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is an excellent Alsatian Grand Cru Riesling. Vines planted in 1978. Colour straw gold. A bouquet of lime and lemon zest, golden peach and nectarine. Rich notes in the background, some honeysuckle. On palate there is a good balance between the richness and the refreshing, but gentle, acidity. Off dry with good volume and concentration. Some of the complexity and the succulent, leesy quality is due perhaps to the battonage this wine has gone through. Limey, lemon and pear flavoured. Slightly honeyed but with a bit of green apple crunch. Not a lot of minerality. Surprisingly opulent for (only) 5.2 gl of RS, but then the alcohol as high as 14.2% is also a surprise. Maybe for shorter term drinking (6-8 years?) rather than being ultra long lived. |
