Something was amiss about this bottle and I'm refraining from placing a numerical score on it.

Defined brick red in color, this wine showed stewed red berry fruits of cranberry and subtle smoke and Asian spices including tamarind. The mouth feel brought fading acidity and more spices. The finish was short and almost completely devoid of fruit.

Drank at the Ryland Inn in Whitehouse, NJ, this bottle, from my boss's wine cellar ($50 corkage fee) was mostly DOA. He assured me the provenance was perfect and the cork showed no staining. However, the fruit was gone and the secondary flavors and aromas were barely existent. Reading other recent CT notes on this show that other bottles have plently of life left. This one did not.

(Mostly) Oregon Dinner at Cherry Circle Room (Chicago, IL): There's a real richness to the nose of this wine, and I think this was especially on display after the relative weediness of the Ponzis. Here, sweeter berries show through a lot more, and this has a touch of sweetness to it, though it's still counterbalanced by lots of acidity. Sour black cherries and a touch of smoke give this even more interest.

So the question is when did he pick?

Based on the nose, a touch early, tart and tangy, its there, needs some time but will still be a young drinker. Give it a year in the bottle and then over the next seven.

We shall see.

Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir Tasting (Gary's Place): Dark red color. Decanted for 1 hour; drank a 70ml pour over 40 minutes. This was quite spiced on the nose, a bit green, black cherry and wood spice. The palate was more medium full bodied, darker fruits, sour black cherry, cranberry, currants, tart, with a green edge and bold spiciness. This was nowhere near as good as a bottle 2 years ago...drink up.

2014 is the first year for Ken Wright Latchkey. At the barrel tasting in November 2014, about two months after the wine was barreled, Latchkey was the best of the Ken Wright single vineyard bottlings that were available for tasting. The wine was released to purchasers of futures and to the public in November 2015. As of January 2016, it is still a little young, but very promising.

Shea Pinot Provided by and at Gary's: A 1 hour decant, drank a small glass over about an hour. This wine was dark and slightly brooding from the get-go. A bit alcoholic. Nice but lacks balance.

I thought it a touch thin for my tastes, but pleasant enough; my wife whose tastes run to lighter Pinots liked it just fine. Ok at $30 but not more

after struggling with a few bordeaux/burgundies that didn't live up to expectations this past week, i was in the mood for something accessible and this hit the spot. might have resulted in me giving it an extra point or two.

i can't disagree too vociferously with the people here who gave it a lower score, though i wouldn't call it so jammy that you get tired of it....it was definitely not that kind of drinking experience. the wine was open, lush and had good acidity so I was happy from start to finish.

Nice nose. Fuller bodied pinot with notes of plum, black cherry, and spice. Soft mouth-feel without crossing over into flabbiness. Still with a hint of heat in the middle. Moderate finish. Still showing well on Day 2 including some cherry flavors.

Big tart fruit nose with raspberry, cranberry, hard cherry candy and violet notes. The palate follows with much the same although it leaves something to be desired after the alluring smell. Light, smooth tannins and a subtle minerality but decidedly new world.

Drank over a few hours and did not develop much if at all. Enjoyable still but I would drink up.

This is an example of a fine Eola Hills Pinot. Bright fruit, followed by dusty earth and a hint of tannin. Nose of cherry and rose along with fall leaves.
Nothing too complicated or requiring work in defining, solid paired with a rare steak and frites. Complements the sautéed Brussel Sprouts. Time to enjoy!

I wasn't to high ton this wine at first. On days 1 & 2 this wine was disjointed, lacking the primary fruit while the secondary flavors were not fully showing. The tannins still present. Best on Day 3 with notes of plum, tea, light spice and integrated tannins. Day 1&2 - 87, Day 3 - 89.

Expected very little... what a surprise. Having bought this on release I might even say it's in its prime- like the '04 St. Innocent Shea. Not getting the normal, immediately prominent and characteristic Willamette minerals on the nose- a good thing, IMO. Fruit is still fresh and firm and delicious.
