This wine is drinking very well right now. It is simply beautiful. Still tons of fruit with soft round tannins. Very enjoyable. Wines like this prove to me that I have a very different palate than James Laube from Wine Spectator, who gave this wine an 87 and recommended drinking by 2012. In 2015 this wine is amazing

Decanted 1 hour...dense blueberry/ boysenberry mocha upfront. Full-bodied, concentrated dark fruit flavors mid-palate. Alcohol well integrated with tannins. Dry, dusty, kirsch, anise, finish. Not sensing a really long finish, though

This was the wine served with the main course at our dinner party. It was a great hit.

Nice fairly deep/dark fruit, nice flavor profile, smooth/full fruit mid-palate, and solid finish. However, the 6% petit verdot shows on the finish - I'm not a big fan of petit verdot because it tends to close the finish too soon for me. If it wasn't for the finish I would rate this cab a couple points higher. Slow ox for one hour, decanted for another three, and drank over another two. Improved with time and will get better. Clearly more approachable than the 2010 vintage. 94% cabernet and 6% petit verdot. WA anticipated maturity 2014 to 2035. Great QPR in the early/mid 2000s when you could pick it up for around $50 but I have a hard time with the most recent price increase.

Opened two hours early but it was excellent right when opened and the air time didn't add anything more, maybe just softened it a little. It's an excellent, smooth blend, right in its prime time window.

A beautiful Bordeaux blend that is great now and will only get better with time. Nose of chocolate, licorice, and sage; inky red in color; medium in body. Tastes of black cherry, blackberry, pepper, graphite, and cedar, with a dusty yet smooth finish. 14.8% alcohol. Surprisingly approachable now (more so than the 2012 Firebelle, which was more tannic than this wine). 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Cabernet Franc. Just a beautiful wine.

This is right in the sweet spot, amazing not a hit of any age. Drank along side 06 Insignia, 05 Juslyn Spring Mountain, and it was my WOTN. Basically a PnP, and the moment poured in the glass you could smell the bouquet from across the table. Mostly Blue fruit with the oak just perfectly integrated, so glad I have 5 more. Don't think its getting much better but that's not a bad thing, and think this still has a minimum of 5-10 more years before it will start its decline.

Opened up and let breathe for 2 hours. A nose of cassis, cherry and tobacco leaf which lead way to a full bodied authoritative palate that is ripe black cherry and mineral driven with a sweetness that lingers.

The prior notes are right on. Supple and drank beautifully from the moment I popped the cork. Drank from decanter over the course of 2 hours but it really did not benefit from the decanting - it was already brilliant. Dark cherry, without the graphite/pencil shavings that are more prevalent in other (earlier) larkmead cab vintages. Lingered on the palate for more than a minute. Its sweetness is unexpected and may turn some off but I enjoyed it in the context of the wine as a whole. This is hands down my favorite vintage of larkmead cab in the 2002-2012 range that i have tasted over the past 18 months.

Mothers Day wine #2 with charcuturie. Big wine with a finish that spreads out. Perhaps a tiny bit oaky at this point that will likely dissipate with more age. Currant dominant. Nose a bit shy. Very good but not quite the knockout I was hoping for.

Beautiful wine. Quite tight to start. Improved after hour 2-3 in decant. Beautiful nose of menthol, cedar, cassis, dark fruit. Blueberry pie. Complexity improving with time. Nice acidity, texture and balance. Likely should wait a year or more before further tasting.

The nose was rich with dusty spice, cherry, black currant, cola and sweet herbs providing an airy lift. On the palate, velvety textures ushered in concentrated dark fruits, tart cherry and cedar, but turning more taut and drying toward the close. The finish was long with bright cherry, cocoa and hints of cedar.

This is still quite youthful and in need of time in the cellar to truly even out on the palate. For now, it stands on the merits of it's stunning bouquet and a performance on the palate that works very well at the dinner table.

Beautiful nose of dark berries, black cherries, black currant, dark chocolate and ginger. Perfectly balanced with velvety tannins, nice acidity and well integrated alcohol. Long and complex. Fruit is a little bit on the sweet side to earn a better score, but a really nice wine that is perfect right now.

A well-aged Sauvignon Blanc that should be drunk now. Nose has floral and saline notes, pale yellow in color. Full-bodied, with dense tastes of grapefruit, melon, and lime, with sour, almost oily finish. Has a honeyed quality that reminds me of a Semillon. 14.1% alcohol. Drank next to a 2013 Lillie, which was lighter and fresher.

An elegant and fresh, yet powerful, Sauvignon Blanc. Light yellow in color, nose of wet grass and citrus. Tastes of grapefruit, lemon, and hazelnut, with a beautiful finish that lingers like a premier cru Burgundy. 14.1% alcohol. Put this up next to a To Kalon or other 100% SB from Napa or Sonoma anyday. Will age for a few years; tastes incredibly fresh and light now.

An intriguing Merlot-based blend, but needs time for tannins to integrate and subside. Decanted for an hour. Dark red, with nose of chocolate and cherry. Powerful tastes of dark fruits (e.g., blackberry, blueberry), with strong secondary notes of graphite, cocoa, and dust. 14.7% alcohol. Promising fruit, but a lot is hiding behind the wall of tannin. Give it time: based on drinking Firebelles for several years, I think this will almost definitely improve.

At first, this was less complex on the palate after enjoying a Beckstoffer Cab, but this 2012 REALLY opened up with some air and began to display explosive, dark, ripe fruit. Black cherry, berries, cassis, with subtle anise/ licorice notes. This is an outstanding Napa Valley Cabernet, the best Larkmead vintage yet for me! All l can say is 93+points for now, great stuff!

Here is a key admission. Some days, in the am, particularly when we are at our place in Wellington, fla, I go to the cellar (well, a 30 bottle cooler) choose the wine(s) for that night, and double decant. In NY, where my am is more stressed, most mornings I dont. I have not found the larkmead at home nearly as enjoyable as we did last night and I attribute that to an 8 hour double decant. The wine was soft, smooth, luscious, mouth filling. Some Cali wines will go long, but when they drink like this at 10, they don't need to. I will accept this from Cali, and let me bordeaux do what they do so much better when they get to 20 years or so.

Not a lot his change with this wine since my last tasting it. I must say I do discern hints of something, trace elements in the background that have yet to manifest or show in this 2010 vintage. I suppose it needs more time? The 2012 is drinking beautifully NOW. If you have a choice between the two, go with the 2012, it is stunningly beautiful!
