earthy and woody top notes with tropical fruit and a touch of clove. Large scale in the mouth with an opulent mid-palate and a acid and long finish, which emphasizes the meal spectrum of chardonnay. Very good.

I can't deny the balance of power and finesse in this bottle. Everyone enjoyed it and it went incredibly well with all types of salads and seafoods. Upside from here.

Fairly opaque with medium bordering on long legs. Dark purple/Crimson colour starting to show signs of age.
Cherry and plum with a little bit of oak on the nose.
A tiny bit thin on the palette but a nice balance of fruit, oak and acidity. Medium to long finish.
Not bad, not amazing.

If you don't like oak, you won't like Leeuwin. But for those who do, oh, this is a wonderful Aussie Chard.

Enjoyed this Aussie favorite on the 4th of July. Now a shade over a decade old, this bottle was drinking nicely. Well balanced and well proportioned, with ample acidity and zest. Very enjoyable on a warm evening.

Dinner at La Belle Vie (La Belle Vie, Mpls): Light gold color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over an hour. This is usually a wine that I find very complex and intriguing. This bottle struck me a bit more one dimensional than others, still excellent but not quite as exhilarating as other vintages. The nose shows a lot of fresh cut cedar planks, toasted oak, lemon, lighter banana, sea breeze minerals. The palate is toasted, cedar, pear, lemon, banana, good minerality, fresh oak, youthful with a good finish. Give this a couple years and we'll see what happens. 91+ to 92pts.

A bottle that's always worth sharing. This is full bodied with lemon zest, smoky hints, and minerality. I've enjoyed all the vintages of this I've had.

Ripe, round and rich. Easy to understand but still with an aspect of sophistication. This is a buttery and tropical expression of chardonnay.

Youthful appearance, lively cherry red, purple core; aromatic, even pungent nose, fresh and floral, hints of spice and blonde tobacco; juicy and supple palate, fresh and well-balanced, medium weight, elegant and compact, ripe tannins; creamy finish, bright fruit, good length. At restaurant De Nederlanden *, Vreeland, NL.

Funny, out of a Zalto Universal much bigger and more oaky than I remember it being. Not in a bad way, just not as evolved as I thought. With air it mellowed out. Needs more time.

Delicate flavours with grapefruit, honeydew melon and kiwi, with a buttery vanilla undercurrent. Acidity and oak in balance. Wonderfully structured with amazing length. Has many years in front of it.

Opened my last bottle today of this absolutely wonderful wine. Glad that it was perfect and sad that I have no more.

Perfectly balanced, the 2001 Art Series Chardonnay glows from the glass golden yellow. With ageing this wine has developed some nut overtones while retaining its delicious fruit character of lemon and pear. Luscious, harmonious and gorgeous in the glass, this is without a doubt one of the best Chardonnays I have ever tasted in my 25 years of serious tasting.

See previous notes for further detail.

Consumed a glass over an hour. There has been some bottle variation (even though it's a screwcap) among these Leeuwin art series chardonnay, and this was a good bottle. Significantly lighter on its feet than others I've had, no doubt benefiting from bottle age and luck. Oak and spice dominates. There is a bit of oomph to it that suggests Australia, but you could easily place it in Burgundy or California as well. Significant minerality, especially on the finish.

Worldwide World Class Chards (Edina, MN): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. Just a bit earthy on the nose, wet stones, more citrus than I recall, and no tropical notes now and very minimal floral notes. The palate is quite similar on this bottle, none of the tropical fruit notes that gave this a remarkable intensity of fruit, more restrained and minerally with citrus, lemon, some oak, spice, getting more depth over an hour, long stony finish. An interesting evolution over the last few bottles.

This time side by side with Yarra Yering Chardonnay. Quite the contrast. Served with cumin, brown sugar and corriander grilled whole chicken and sweet and sour pickled cherry tomatoes. Was actually quite the match.

just delicious. French and grand cru like to me. terrific structure and cut to this wine. plenty of acidity that brings balance to the green apple fruit and has enough oak and sweetness and a long finish to bring it all in harmony in a classy way.

What a bottle I had! Pale pear-water in color, this wine has an enormous perfume of unctuous citrus (in addition to rubber), with a little bit of steeliness as well. On the palate the dominant note is gorgeous, bright, juicy, fresh-cut lime, with limestone (talc in other tasters' notes), and a bit of salinity - and just drinking it is terrifically refreshing. But if you can resist just drinking it, there's a lot going on: cucumber, brine, ginger, pear, steel, some yeastiness - on and on, all of it braided by the acid taut together like a suspension bridge cable. Absolute paragon of a dry riesling, and at ~35usd!? Will be seeking out a case of these and enjoying most of them in their glorious youth over the next three years.
