One of the best wines i drank. 18 years old but still pretty full of life. The color is golden, like a sauternes. In the Nose you get tropical fruit, honey en soms oak. The taste combines sauternes like flavors with chardonnay. The complexity and balance are unprecendented in my experience. Awesome wine!

Wonderful showing, this is rich exotic, flamboyant with peach and pineapple, but also a very precise acidity, that keeps everything in place. It is not a dead ringer for a whit burg (as it should not be) but certainly one of the best chardonnays to come out of Australia. Under screwcap.

Lovely wine, absolutely humming at the moment. Had this on my birthday with a picnic in the park, looking out over Sydney Harbour. Citrus and melon, with a little creaminess, lovely oak and good acidity. good mouthfeel without being over the top. Unfortunately my last bottle, especially as this will continue for at least another 5 years.

Screw-cap. Pop and poured at home.
Appearance is clear, very pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of citrus lime, stony minerality, and chalk. Glue with more air. Developed.
On the palate, very dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lemon-lime, stony minerality, chalky minerality. Medium+ finish.
Good quality. Much better acidity than the previous bottle I had (may have been an off bottle). Very dry, piercing acidity, lean without being mean. Good attack but not much to offer after that. Unlikely to improve with further ageing. Drink up over next 2-3 years.

The wine has medium acidity. It smells like cool/menthol, cedar and apple. The wine finishes medium. It tastes like melon, mineral, peach, oak and peach blossom. The wine looks straw coloured. The legs are medium. The wine has satin-like texture.

Showed rather elegant and light-weight with aromatics of cassis, stewed fruit, peppery spiciness and present oak. Rather bumpy on the palate with present acidity, while lacking density and length.
Still 13% Malbec provide a dark core. Maybe caught in a bad time…

Watching the "Uncorked" Finale (Home (Noe st)): The second-most impressive Chardonnay I've had from Australia (the '10 Voyager Estate was amazing!).

Medium yellow.
Slightly reductive (lees stirring? winemaking?) moderate intensity nose. Clean, well-integrated, with a gorgeous streak of fresh tangerine (slightly milky) threading through the midpalate. Slight vanilla and pale caramel on the palate - very well-melded oak. Medium body, slightly elevated alcohol (I guessed 13.5%, actually 14% and holding it well) and elevated acidity.

The overall impression is light and vibrant, youthful, and uncomplicated. The cool tangerine note is delightful.

Score: Around 9.

Popped and aerated for 3-4 hours, youthful purple/ruby hue, deep. Expressive, fresh nose of blackberry, black currant, anise, tobacco and cedar tinged with notes of green and vanilla-spice from oak. Medium-plus body. Black cherry and assorted berries are immediate upon first taste along with an impression of green and subtle earthy spice immediately underneath. Well-balanced, with moderate acidity accompanied nicely by chewy, well-rounded tannins on a lingering close.
Although perhaps a bit fruit-forward now, this is outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon and one that shows exceptional aging potential. Hold for 5-10+ years or drink now with an extended decant.

Very fine wine that is rather forward but has excellent varietal character. Wet slate, lime peel and gout de petrol combine in a lowish acid (for riesling) palate with good depth and the potential for improvement with age. 87+

Cool cat cab. Very cool. Blackberry, sunshine, good acidity - the fruit is mineral and blue, refreshing. Fresh and clean, far from Barossa Valley, stringent, precise. Under screwcap. With Côte de Boeuf.

So far I am getting a fair amount of bottle variation with this wine. One bottle will be open, expansive and wonderful. The next will be tighter and more reluctant to fully open. This bottle was in the latter category. First vintage where I have noticed this. The good news is that even on the down days it is very good.

Perfect accompaniment to homemade laksa. Petroleum, Limey nose, great depth of flavour and a reminder of how good a dry Riesling can be. I think this is more outstanding than the Leeuwin Estate 2009 Chardonnay that I have in my cellar - and at a fraction of the price. Delicious. Just a pity that it's my last bottle...

Dinner with Jeffrey: Served blind. Deep gold colour, like Rauno’s other Chardonnay. Under cork (Rauno said it was mashed and had to be pushed into the bottle). A bouquet of honey, grapefruit, spices and a little pineapple. Its development was expressed as a slightly Brie-like, oxidised note. On palate, superb, the best of the three Chardonnays. I need regular reminders as to the quality of mature LEAS Chardonnays. Honey combed and blanched almond flavoured, with citric and orchard fruit elements. Nice bright acidity, not however as racy as the Carrillon. I thought the LEAS was a white Burgundy although, with hindsight, the acid profile and the quite opulent fruit, should have told me it was from the New World. This LEAS should outlive the Carrillon (if your cork holds out). Drink or hold (depending on how developed you like your Chardonnays).

Light, bright yellow. Sexy nose of lime, pear, iodine, and oaky spice. Citrus, minerals, and spice on the palate. Great, griping acidity. Long, lingering finish of chamomile and spice. Like a 1er Puligny-Montrachet.

John Elway, Joe Dimaggio, Rocky Marciano, Bill Russell, American Pharaoh……and 2002 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay……..going out a WINNER! Last bottle from a case purchase on release…..best one yet! Why does that happen? Brilliant golden green metallic color….gorgeous nose of lemon butter, grilled pineapple, honeycomb, crushed minerals, yellow florals, exotic spices. Fresh as a daisy in the mouth….with richer buttered pitted/tropical fruits….alive with fresh squeezed citrus, green apple skin tartness.…savory crushed minerals giving it some good funk…as well as a little flint strike smokiness…vanilla bean and exotic spices galore! A rich wine, but has a great balance and vibrancy….I've never had a Coche Dury CC….but I keep thinking this is the down under version! Awesome!

New Years Eve Celebration (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light-medium gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. Very good nose with white fruits, white nectarine, melon, cedar, lemon. The palate is medium bodied, toasted oak initially, white fruits again, pineapple, white peach, lemon, lemon oil texture, orange, orange oak spice, medium plus finish. About an hour and a half later, this had become more steely, mineral and crisp citrus driven, more Chablis like. It was very good at both points. My #3 WOTN. 92+pts.

New Years Even 2015 (Kevin and Vicki's): Drank a glass over about an hour. The nose is rich and full. The palate has a lot to offer. It is a full-bodied chardonany. It also has the lemon oil and acid to give it nice balance and a rich mouthfeel without being over the top. On the finish, there is a harshness that the group decided was excessive spice from the oak. This was a bit off-putting. Other than that, a great chadonnay. I was told by others that this spice resolved itself after a couple hours, but the wine also lot a bit of flavor in the process.

Pale yellow with green tinges. Great nose of nectarine, white peach, poached pear and nougat. Palate quite rich and full. Fine drive and finish. A fine glass of Chardonnay maturing slowly and with lovely complexity.
