Still good but aerated this time. Better the longer it sat. Still a big wine with nice fruit and finish.

Want zin? Fruit forward, juicy, peppery goodness? Starts off smooooth in the front, pick ups jammy, ripe, dark fruit in the middle palate, and then surprise! Decides it's much more complex than you first give it credit for by surprising you with a nice backbone of acidity and structure. And did I mention a nice long finish to top it all off? Yeah, that too.

Having only tasted young Linne Calodo wines before now, this was a treat. Exuberant and complex nose of dark fruit, licorice, and herbs, typical of LC. What really blew me away was that first sip... immediately playful and serious at the same time. Rich, dense, dark fruit, but soooo light on its feet. Perfect balance, bright and dark simultaneously, and still plenty of acid to provide a long, lovely finish. This is like the first date you want to replay a thousand times.

With so much fruit and acid there, I can see this wine doing very well for at least a few more years, but there is absolutely no reason to hold it unless you have multiple bottles. It's in the perfect place right now.

Black fruits and core of leather and spice. Nice wine that really opened up after an hour or so.

Floral and fabulous - a light approach right now. Really not a heavy hand in any way. Smooth in the bottle, smooth in the glass. I feel running hard on all cylinders - but like the finest motor coach - so well assembled it runs seamlessly. Nice fruit component that's not over-bearing. A wonderful houseguest you want to invite back - do so!

My first Linne Calodo. Impressive. Dark fruit profile on the nose and palate. Smooth texture, easy drinking. Resolved tannins, long finish. A lot to like.

I loved this wine in it's time. Sadly, it's past and is a bit pruney. Hurry up and drink it now.

This bottle had way too much spritz. I would say it has secondary bottle fermentation. Others have noted the issue but the bottles appear to be building up more pressure with time. Drink up your bottles before they start pushing out the cork. Winery should offer to replace the bottles from clients.

Opaque purple with attractive glycerine legs. Opens way too spicy and alcohol hot. Settles down and opens up quickly with a vigorous decant and 30 minutes in the decanter. Then reveals liquified raspberries and blueberries, with some apricot jam. Meaty and savory on the palate with beef blood, iron and a lightly grilled component. Lush finish -- but only after the decant. Lovely.

Tasting at Linne Calodo (At the Winery - Templeton, CA): No problem with this bad boy. Very fruit forward from beginning to end. Deep ruby red with expansive legs. The zin is in the spotlight right now, with its red and black fruits and spiciness. Picks up some nice oak/vanilla notes (American oak aging?), but doesn't overdo it. Licorice and tar notes in the finish. Hard to resist; can't imagine this will get any better.

Tasting at Linne Calodo (At the Winery - Templeton, CA): The Grenache (70%) plays lead here. Very lush. Packs a punch up front, provides thrills on the palate and tails off toward the finish. A red flower/rose bouquet with raspberries, currants and sweetened cranberries erupting on the tongue. A 60-second finish, easily. Tannins peek in and out, sometimes overwhelming the palate right now. My guess, though, is that time will take the edges off of this wine, making this more of a cellar candidate than a "drink me now" wine. Still . . . It's luscious.

4/10/2015 - jonahfactor Likes this wine: NR

Tasting at Linne Calodo (At the Winery - Templeton, CA): Kaboom! Blood red with ample legs. Some horse blanket in the bouquet (57% syrah), but it's all about the gobs and gobs of black and purple fruits. Monstrous when it hits the palate. Ripe raspberries and plum compote with some chalky elements. A surprisingly zesty finish with the tannins starting to integrate, which keep this from being a ponderous one-hit wonder.

4/10/2015 - jonahfactor Likes this wine: NR

Tasting at Linne Calodo (At the Winery - Templeton, CA): Grenache blanc and picpoul blanc blend. Wheat-hued with medium legs and a honeyed nose. Great aromatics with mineral elements that carry over onto the palate, where joined by grapefruit zest, barely ripe peaches, whispers of mango and wet stones. Surprisingly short finish. Concrete fermentation.

A nose of dark fruits and spice, dark purple in color. A full bodied Zin blend, with jammy black cherry, blackberry, licorice and pepper and spicy long finish, as all LC’s wines great stuff. www.winelx.com

Too soon! Thought I'd give one of the 2013's a try but this is very oaky at this point. The oak overwhelms what appears to be a nice core of fruit and Zin spice. Problem Child is always a nice bottling and I suspect this will come into balance in 6-12 months.
