2009 Littorai Pinot Noir One Acre

A very nice elegant PN that blends the best of CA with the a more classic Burgundy style. Showing range, class and stunning fruit purity. CT says I have one more. I'm hopeful but doubtful. If I do, has to be in my locker somewhere. PnP at Tilia tonight for the extended family. Only knock, I paid a hefty $75 for this and the current vintage is like more. Would love to be buying this for sub $60.

For my taste, still showing a heavy oak influence on the nose and palate. Body is much thicker than I would expect from the producer. In addition to oak, there is orange and spice flavors. Finish is a little bitter. Hopefully air will help. TN is PnP.

PnP. Medium ruby. Complex nose of blood orange and spice - lovely balance between fruit and more complexity. Velvety palate feel with no tannins to resolve. Drinking well - no reason to wait.

Tasting at Littorai: Last of the 2013 vineyard designates poured, and my favorite of the group. Gorgeous nose that shows great purity, complexity, and layering with both brighter and darker red fruits, a bevvy of spices, and hint of something akin to orange peel/citrus that gives additional lift and energy to the aromatics. In the mouth, silky, vibrant, balanced, seamless, lingering, and delicious with the red fruit and spice notes repeating. A thrilling, memorable, special, complete wine. Highly recommended.

Tasting at Littorai: The third 2013 vineyard designate tasted. Not as fruit forward/driven or showy as Platt, not as wound up or shut down as The Pivot. Offers up a profile of dark red fruits and barrel spices. Silky, fine grained, vibrant, and nicely balanced with the wine's structure and stuffing protruding just a bit on the back end. Great potential.

Lots of color to this rosé, nearly into the lighter red category. I've had Trousseau with less color. The fruit veers more towards pomegranate and raspberry, with some tart accents on the finish that keep it from going over the top. This is not a classic summer-sipper style rosé, but it is very good wine that suits lighter fare.

2013 Littorai Pinot Noir The Pivot Vineyard

7/18/2015 - egh Likes this wine: 91 points

Tasting at Littorai: Second of the vineyard designates tasted. Comparatively, I found this to be the most restrained, backward, and in need of additional bottle/cellar time to show its fullest potential. Just a bit darker and cooler in its fruit complexion than the Platt, along with a more savory (pepper, spice, herbal) quality. Medium bodied frame. 91(+) points.

Tasting at Littorai: First of the vineyard designates sampled. Of the four, this was the most fruit forward, generous, gratifying, and ready for prime time. Nice depth and layering to the wine's pure and delicious core of red fruits, with subtle notes of pinot funk and barrel spices that add complexity. As with all of the Littorai wines sampled, this impresses for its balance and deft touch.

2012 Littorai Pinot Noir Les Larmes

7/18/2015 - egh Likes this wine: 91 points

Tasting at Littorai: Supple, elegant, pure, pretty, and approachable with a profile of tart, tangy, and higher toned red fruits along with floral and tea/herbal qualities. The Les Larmes doesn't quite wine offer the depth or interest of the vineyard designates that followed, but is a very compelling, charming, tasty wine nevertheless.

Tasting at Littorai: There is good richness and weight here, but it is counterbalanced by the wine's lovely acidity that adds lift, verve, and texture, and profile of yellow and green tinged fruits, grilled nuts, and white flowers. I have passed on the Littorai chards in the last few mailers, but this effort will make me reconsider that buying strategy.

Tasting at Littorai: Final wine poured. Aromatically, this is expressive, distinctive, invigorating, and fun with peach, melon, light strawberry, floral, and mineral notes. The palate is half-step behind the nose: Crisp, dry, and limber, albeit turning slightly bitter and flat on the back end.

PnP. Medium red. Nose of spice and iron. Good intensity on the palate and well balanced with a long finish. More intense and less pretty than many of the Littorai Pinots. Drinking well but will continue to age. Not as impressive as the last bottle.

Very light red and cloudy. In some ways, looks more like a dark rose than a pn. Takes a while to open up. Very floral nose. Body is extremely light. Earth. Light cherry. No residual sugar. Low alcohol. Definitely one for the ipob crowd. Good wine, but this year les larmes was the winner. I usually expect the SC wines to be darker and more mysterious and even tannic com pared to the AV. This vintage didn't work out that way.

Very nice elegant wine, with silky tannins and nice round red fruit upfront. Terroir doesn't arrive until the late body and into the finish, but seems very Sonoma Coast, although I'm not sure where the pivot Vineyard is.

One note, this one was a little dumb at opening. It was probably still a little too cool at first sip and maybe that accounts for the dumbness, but even from drinking temperature, I think this wine would likely need 15 to 30 minutes to open.

13.1% abv. Medium burgundy red. Expressive aromas. Raspberry, black cherry, Asian spice, forrest floor and a citrus note. Fresh and lively. Enjoyable now and should continue to evolve over the next several years.

LBTG - with Alan hosting: my least fav in the flight. Nothing personal but this was just a bit ripe and unwieldy for me. the touch of heat at the start did dissipate with time - and it is a young wine. Violets, cherry cola and some oak on the nose. Rustic mid with sweet ripe candied cherry - and a hint of iron. nice ripe finish but just a touch too soft. good but not my style.

Gorgeous nose, leaning toward the herbaceous, with tart cherry, sage, rose petal, and hints of cocoa, forest floor and strawberry. Very delicate palate, with soft, rounded fruit and rhubarb-like tartness. Very slight tannin lurks in the finish, but this is wonderfully balanced at this point in its evolution.

This tasted almost exactly like a premoxed White Burgundy. Nutty, frayed, bitter, showing some rotten character. We didn't finish our glasses. Having had an excellent 2002 Heintz recently, and a fantastic bottle of the 93 Mays a while back, and seeing other positive notes on this wine from the last few years, I suspect this was not correct rather than simply too old.
