2008 Long Shadows Wineries Sangiovese Nine Hats

Columbia Valley more

Dark garnet with red plum nose. Lightly dry tannins with moderate fruit, acid present and a little sweetness for balance. Fruity without being jammy. More an old fashioned mellow red than an austere food friendly Sangio, drinking well now.

Still plenty of life. Full rich fruity palate. Only gripe would be the finish could be a little longer.

Did not show as well as a bottle a few months ago, but wasn't flawed. Just tighter, less giving on the midpalate and therefore showing more tannins on the finish. If this typical, wait another year.

Splash decant and strain for sediment (had a lot) .... This is drinking quite well now. The fruit has receded, but is still present, though I'd say it's more of a secondary note. The tannins are smooth, but still bracingly dry. There is a big acid pop and a decent amount of spice and earth. Altogether well made, not even slightly hot and in a very well-balanced place right now. Drier and more responded than most California Syrahs. Hard to imagine it improving much, as I think it would suffer from further lose of fruit. ... Mother's Day 2015

A beautifully fragrant aroma of white flowers and apricot welcomes you to this light colored, well-made wine. As I remember it, the palate is bit sweeter and less acidic than the 2012 vintage but still crisp and fresh with some frizzante and slight bitterness balancing the sweetness. Honeysuckle, pear, and pineapple come forward and the finish is long and smooth. Excellent Riesling and one of my favorites.

After scoring this wine a 95 last go around: this next bottle was a let-down. It seemed to be in a dumb phase, with neither the explosive perfume nor voluptuous flavor of the prior. It could have been the food pairing? Not sure. Hold final bottle a couple years, min.

Ordered of the list at Hannah's, Mike and I decided to go "big" and I figured this would fit the bill. Definitely a concentrated big style wine but I was surprised at the balance and no sticky or residual sugar. Very dark purple color. Blackberry and smoky aromas. Flavor is driven by the same blackberry, toasted oak, and bramble. Medium plus finish. Slight warming mouthfeel but no overt alcohol notes.

Beautiful! 2nd day open. Color is opaque but beautiful ruby red gems visible along the edges in direct sunlight. Delightful nose: smooth, rich leather and cream. Front palate: creamy rich dark fruits and leather. Lots of spice! Mid-palate: raspberries and ripe strawberries. Finish: long & loving dark chocolate. Great with grilled Italian turkey sausage, zucchini and mushrooms.

Served with Turkey Tacos, good wine but not great. Slightly sweet, a bit high on the acidity but helps it cut through spicy foods. Citrus with some stone fruit on the nose and palate. Hasn't seemed to evolve much in the short time it has been stored, I would say drink up if you have it I'm not sure this one is going anywhere.

Last bottle at the restaurant and it was offered to us at retail cost. Have never heard if this wine but do know about the association to Dave Phinney and Prisoner. A great treat. Voluminous floral bouquet. Lots of dark fruit with a slight touch of tobacco. Some heat upon opening and mellowed with time. Had some left for the next day and it was still very good. A lucky day!

Dark ruby with purple hues.
Black plum, dark cherry, boysenberry, sour plum flower, violet, and lavender with orange blossom undertone. Ceder box, tobacco and mocha with some potting soil earthiness. Minimal spice.
Velvet smooth on the palate with medium+ body. Attack exhibits its concentration of flavors but neither is it out of balance nor overwhelming. Alcohol is noticeable towards the finish and well tamed but moderate acidity carries through the long finish. Medium tannin is smooth throughout. Floral in characteristic with much afforded temperance on imparting secondary aromas in respect to quality fruit itself. It's a Libournais style wine made with new world fruit. This would pair excellently with bone-in fillet, or lightly seasoned chateaubriand.
