Blueberry and boysenberry fruit. Nice change from "traditional" Pinot fruit, but otherwise still a Pinot with a little baking spice and some loaminess. Smooth, but not quite satiny, across the palate and a pleasant finish with some acidity that matched well to grilled salmon.

Unscrew and pour from a 375. Layered deep red fruit with a finish of tart cherry. Nice.

From a 375ml

As I have said in the past, Garys' has always been my favorite Loring Pinot. A few years of cellar time brought this wine together at a lovely place. The fruit remained quite rich, focusing on raspberry and blackberry. The tannins had either receded or were buried under the still ample fruit. There was still some vanilla-tinged oak as well. So it sounds like a fairly typical, large-scaled California Pinot. But it wasn't. What really stood out for me was how integrated all of those pieces were in the wine as a whole. I was sipping it, and it just sailed across the palate with ease and grace. It was velvety and balanced, really just a joy to drink.

I went on line and immediately reloaded on Garys' in 375ml, and will let them get a couple years of age this time.

The wine was paired with a Salmon dinner, shared with friends in our box at the Hollywood Bowl on a lovely Southern California evening. The food, wine, and fellowship melded seamlessly with the all Mendelssohn concert conducted by Dudamel. A pleasant evening enhanced by good wine...

Red cherry and blackberry fruit with subtle cola notes. Nice spice to it and good acidity. Tasted blind against the Roar and Siduri versions that had very similar profiles, this was my second favorite behind the Siduri.

Modest oak with ripe pear that stays tasty through the finish. Works well with heavy ham & bean soup and peanut butter crackers. Michelin 5 star food & wine pairing!

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Aromas of grapefruit, raspberry, cabbage rolls and perfumed red fruit. Sour strawberry fruit on the palate. Guessed Pinot Noir, but wasn't too sure of its origin.

Quite a surprise when this was unveiled as a Loring. This reminded me a bit of the old LWCs under the composite rubber cork. This must certainly be a flawed bottle.

Bright cherry red in the glass, great Pinot fruit scents of red currants, cherries, and raspberries, very soft on the palette and smooth finish with a little smokey flavor, minimal tannins, and getting more wonderful as the night goes on.

Is this "traditional" Pinot Noir? Heck no. Is this enjoyable Pinot Noir? Yes, to me, definitely. Sappy, rich fruit and a nice little kick of acidity (although almost not enough). Drink now or over the next 3 years.

Almost always my least favorite from the Loring lineup. High alcohol and you can taste it. But fruit is very vibrant, so I drink it. Its not far off from being balanced, but it is for my palate.

Floral nose and blackberry fruit. Caught a hint of strawberry right after opening, but couldn't find it later. A bit of gravel mid-palate keeps the fruitiness under control. Relatively short finish with a little sweetness in the oak. Already a touch of brick to the color.

I know how much Brian hates VA, so I was shocked to find so much in this bottle. Once you move past the VA, a light raspberry/strawberry nose, with no detectable heat. On the palate, the VA is a distraction but not overwhelming. The Mourvedre plays an excellent backdrop providing texture to the Grenache. Not particularly enjoyable.

My last bottle of Loring and a reminder that I need to start buying from Brian again. This bottle was in a sweet spot, with good fruit structure and nice balance. While certainly not a lighter style pinot noir, this was enjoyable to drink and should hold for several more years.

These older Lorings are holding up really well and for those in my cellar I would say that they are just now at their peak. Pop and pour. The wine was what I would term typical "pinot purple" with no browning apparent. The wine displayed well integrated flavors with good balance. Plenty of cherry fruit and a little earthiness. A delicious bottle for my tastes which are for a more mellow pinot, not the tart acidic pinot that some seem to prefer.

Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Bouquet of cherry, raspberry, plum, forest floor and spice. Palate echoes the nose and combines with soft, fleshy tannins. Leads to a long, soft dry finish. Medium bodied, pure and crisp. Paired with dry rub, barbecue chicken.

Ripe and generous, then polished and velvety, the '13 Sta. Rita Hills does not disappoint. BBQd chicken, cranberry, sandstone, blueberry and turmeric. Long and quite persistent, with noticeable grip. Ideal now or over the next seven years. Drink 2015 - 2022.
