Right away the nose was showing strawberries and cherries with a bit of wood smoke. Zero bricking and the cork was not even stained one bit. Wine was very tight and has an acidic taste that masked most of the flavor pro. Let it sit for 45 minutes whic only slightly helped the acidic taste. The wine never fully resolved. It got better but never fleshed out like my other bottles. Sad that the last was the worst. Just not a good bottle. Disappointed. |

3/3/2024 - FamousWine Likes this wine: NRThe bottle was uncorked 1 hour before the dinner and the wine was poured to enhance succulent duck puddings cooked by Madame. Medium(+) intensity fragrances of cherries, rose petals, tangerine peel, light tobacco and a bit of wood burst out of the glass. A tiny hint of alcoholic heat can also be detected. The palate is much more impressive. That's irresistibly delicious! Masculine and almost austere, it reveals plenty of firm textured tannins -wow!. They provide a seriously-grippy mouthfeel. A dark-fleshed fruity sap underpinned by a zesty, bright acidity mingles with flavors of mushrooms, blood orange, licorice and leather. It has a very good length, evoking earth, cooked tomato and balsamic aromas towards the finish. It's already tempting but I'm not sure this 2013 is at the peak: I guess that with a couple of years of patience the mouth can become more polished and more elegant. For sure a ‘great-value’ Barolo! |

2/23/2024 - TS Likes this wine: 93 pointsClassic Barolo. Still primary fruit, tar, rose, rasberry, wild strawberry. Still too young. Good fruit cocentration, fine-grained tannins, and long finish. Bought a case together with Marenca at winery in 2019. At that time, surprisingly the Marenca performed better, but now it seems like the Marghereria is catching up and outperforms the Marenca. Great wines both. Keep in cellar for another 3 years, and drink over 10 years+. Rating maybe a bit conservative with regards to potential. |

Aromas of pressed roses, cherries, a savory but fresh herbal note like bay laurel, and a fresh mineral note. Medium to full body, high acidity, alcohol feels a little hot but this is so young and I expect that will integrate soon. Shows great typicity for Serralunga with its imposing structure offset by heady perfume and a core of sweet fruit. |
