Dark red/violet in the glass. Wine was clear after double decanting, which was needed, to remove sediment. Completely integrated nose composed of blackberry, anise, bitter chocolate, and mint. Wonderfully supple on the palate with black fruit, violets, and earth. Fully resolved structure, with some barely detectable powdery tannins. Very long, and smooth, blackberry/mint finish. Outstanding bottle, fully resolved and integrated.

Wine had a bouquet that was closed save a strong smell of iron -- my wife (a physician) says it smells just like blood. The palate had a strong flavor of methoxypyrazine and was unpleasant. Have another bottle so will chalk this up to a flawed bottle before rating.

This bottle was much more oxidized than my first, I think the oxidation dominated. It has good acidity and spice on the long finish. Nose is muted. There is little fruit on the palate, mineral, spice, and acid dominates.

Nice light value dry rose, light salmon color. Displays aromas and fruity flavors of strawberry and watermelon accentuated with some smokiness and minerality. Perfect for outdoor summer consumption with light snacks. Nice acidity and a decent finish. Would purchase again.

Deeply coloured, not quite black.
Smooth, dark, black fruits, light soy, hint of pepper, lovely deep fragrance.
Supple, fleshy, medium weight. Excellent acidity provides a long clean balanced finish. Pure black fruit and licorice flavours, hints of graphite, tar and some plummy prune. Not overwhelmingly complex however. Velvety with no hard edges, a delight. Still with good weight, by no means past its best.

The bouquet is not extremely expressive, but there is some perfume and sweet licorice. On the palate silky yellow fruits, some honey, very rich and opulent. Mild acidity, round bitterness and a great length. Superb and impressive wine. Can last for many more years.

Polished and modern and very quaffable. Clean precise style but of course some of the loss of rusticity that accompanies that. Dark berries garrigue. Grenache syrah carignan and you can sense them all here. For $25 you can do a lot worse.

1500 Parker Points of Wines (GHT): This was a very interesting wine. White Rhones are different, but this seems like a good time to open this. The nose is complex with marzipan, honey and wax. Tom F. thought it slightly oxidized, but I am not sensitive to that. Others had no issue. On the palate, this I very dry, complex and quite elegant. Tom W noted a light resemblance to aged Riesling which I agreed with. It seemed like more than most wines, this showed differently for everyone at the table. Sadly, the food was a delicious cabbage salad but with fresh Jalapenos which while delicious, dominated the wine.

Pale lemon color. Notes of citrus fruit, white flowers and hints of unripe apricot. Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol and flavor intensity. Lasting finish. A light and easy-drinking poolside wine. Not much more to it.

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Inky black (but this was the dregs). There was a lot of oak on the nose, but to be honest, the oak didn't show that prominently on the palate and there's some nice acidity as well. It's obviously a bigger, more bombastic style than the Northern Rhones that I prefer, but in all fairness, this ain't bad at all.

Jason's Birthday Wine Night 2015 (Dakota Residence): Superbly floral on the nose, highly elegant wine, showing notes of graphite, pencil shavings, sweet blackcurrant, and dark cherries. Slightly dusty, French nose. Hint of earth. On the palate, quite fruity, tannic, and dry, ultra smooth, silky tannins, and a long finish. Still feels youthful and can be cellared long. It was the overall wine of the night, though it ranked 2nd of 6 wines on my list!

Wally's: Dried herbs, subtle hints of nuts, nectarine pit, slight sherry note/aldehyde; round, sits nicely on the palate, good mouthfeel but light on its feet; more earthy shrooms than Meal, long finish. Comes from the Murets vineyard, farther east and a bit lower than Meal. Marsanne.

Wally's: Brown sugar & butter, waxy, burnt butterscotch and cream cheese; ultra slick, creamy without being heavy, nectarine pit; feels like it should be sweet but it's bone dry; quite flamboyant and hedonistic (but fantastic nonetheless). Excellent structure, a power house. 100% Marsanne, middle, upper part of the Hermitage hill. From Jeroboam.

Deep ruby in color with only a hint of sediment this wine is fully mature.
The deep brooding nose of black cherry and licorice with the faintest whiff of chewing tobacco leads to a lush mouth feel and long deliciously satisfying finish.

If a date, this was a 35 year old former French runway model who quotes Economist articles randomly over a dinner of sauteed morels and miso-glazed black cod. Highly recommended as an example of stellar northern Rhone Syrah from a terrific vintage

Wally's: cherry covered coffee or cocoa bean, extremely heady, liquid licorice, rocks and very mineral underneath it all; great structure, super expressive with good ripeness but still mineral at the core. Excellent, lovely complex wine. Tasting delicious now, no problem drinking today but would try again in 4-5 years.

Wally's: Cherry tart, garrigue, herbs; still good black cherry, stewed blackberry, dried violets-a bit heady, but still fruit driven. Nice, but not exceptional as the 2000 Ermitage Meal was. I was expecting a bit more complexity.
