Spring Warm Up Tasting (The Lyon's Tree House): Six hour decant and this had a monster crust, so be careful! It is a flower for the nose and harmonious on the palate. Blackberry, chocolate covered cherries, fig, and anise dominate. Etoh well hidden and the tannins are subtle. Great finish! to the tasting as well...

A private tasting (Restaurant Merkelbach, Amsterdam, NL): Light colour. Dusty, maderised nose, deathly; thin and acidic palate, drying tannins, light finish but good length. Over the hill.

Great bottle. Just needs to be decanted to get rid of the excess alcohol. Then it shines.

Vintage Port 1985 - 30 year Retrospective Tasting over 2 days; 1/24/2015-1/25/2015 (Issaquah, WA): #1 of the second flight. Good color, caramel, alcohol, so far the most heat of any of the ports tasted.
Grp notes: woody, musty, hazelnut skin, bitter, the most suspected glassware discrepancy.

Didn't keep notes, bu excellent pale Translucent ruby with light nutty notes, liqueur cherries, smooth, very low tannins; nice, but not Fabienne del Sol nice. I think it was a good time to drink it-- after Thansgiving dinner but before cribbage for cash.

I remember my 14th birthday in 1974 when my mother gave me this bottle (1963 being close to my birth year of 1960 and a much better vintage). So, with a group of friends, I decided this was the birthday to enjoy it. I gave it 8 hours in the decanter. Palest red in the decanter, but tawny in the glass. Quite delicious and, for me obviously, very special.

White pepper on the nose, with voluptuous fruit undertones. Very prickly in the mouth and rather lacking in the body one might expect. Long and rather austere finish. Not in the league of a true vintage.

This bottle had less of the acetone smell. In fact, I did not notice it until reading my previous reviews. Its still there, but does not bother much. Bottle variation? Or time?

Purchased at Wilbur's for $19.99 on sale. This is my first port, so I don't have anything to compare this to. Deep burgundy orange appearance. Aroma is thick brown sugar, fig, heavy tannins, oak, caramel cake frosting, vanilla, oxidized, nutty aroma. Very complex and I'm not sure how I feel about it as it kind of reminds me of Samuel Adams Triple Bock which is my all-time most hated beer. Thick, goopy mouth feel. Strong booze. Tons of dark fruit. Dried raisins are especially strong. Some plum notes. A touch of chocolate. Really just full of raisin notes. Sweet and goopy. Really an eye opening beverage experience. I'm not sure I'll crazy about this but I'm sure glad I tried this. Reminds me of the first time I listened to Kid A or The Downward Spiral.

Drinking well now. Double-decanted for 2 hours. Drank in one sitting after dinner. Bright, fruity style for vintage port. More ripe than dried flavors. Lots of sediment. Alcohol was a little prominent and kept my score lower than otherwise.

Inky dark purple. Tons of fruit on the nose and the palate. No heat or unpleasant alcohol. Plenty of time left but perfect now. What a terrific bottle of port.

Red center, pale red rim with clear signs of age.
Sweet, iron, old cherries, marzipan, touch of VA, some mint.
Smooth, weedy, almonds, some acidity and tannin, a little waxy, metallic, sweet on the finish, mint and eucalyptus.
Good vintage port, lightish and drinking well now.
