2009 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Not as good as prior bottles. This one the fruit was a bit muted, almost like it was going into or coming out of a dumb phase. More decanting time did not materially change it. Tannins still have a bit of grittiness to them but the wine was overall smooth nonetheless. Not sure what to make of this wine, but it was certainly quite pleasant and good nonetheless.

From 100% old vine, Mourvedre, the wine is incredibly dark in color. The nose, with its spicy melange of black fruits, flowers and herbs gets the wine going. On the palate, the wine is rich, fat, deep, concentrated and lushly textured. Still young, this should be better in 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 more years as it has the stuffing to last. With a production of only 300 cases, if this is a wine you want to cellar, grab a few bottles now, because sooner or later, it will be close to impossible to find.

Showing very nicely. Good tannins balancing rich cherry. Light acidity, but nothing problematic. Overall a great value.

Aromatic bouquet with blossom and yellow fruits. On the palate bananas, minerals and smoke. Some vanilla and good acidity. Very nice white C9duP.

Tar and dark fruit in the nose, the taste is very structured. Good acidity and some heat. Complex and long, with chewy tannins.

Dark in color. Nose has plum, anise and a note like grilled tomato. Soft mouthfeel. Get more Mourvèdre (or possibly Syrah?) than Grenache with both mouth and the lush fruit. Dark berry and floral notes. Interesting palate, definitely unique with a funkiness I came to like...which might not appeal to all. Tannins really stuck to the teeth (to its detriment)...maybe soften further with a few more years.

Dark/purple in colour. Big aromas on the nose - spices, kirsch liqueur, cured meat, cherry preserves, smoke. On the palate a bit heavy and drying, intense fruit, fresh. A bit angular. Good length. Needs food. Excellent QPR. 86-88

What a find, other than remembering the name. Exceptional in all respects until the finish, which is a bit harsh. Expect that will mellow in a few years.

Tar, earth, cherries, a little violette, something green, soy sauce, tobacco lots of dark fruit and a little earth.

Medium acidity, medium+ body and marked tannins. High intensity and a long finish.

Very high quality, and fun to try a CdP made with 100% Mourvedre. Wouldn't buy at almost $100 though.

Really unimpressive. Initially it had some syrah-like smoked meat notes on the nose, but after that it was just big and boozy with a strange dusty aspect to it. Drinkable, but far from exciting.

Deep ruby color.

Developing nose with a medium+ aroma intensity. It is tight and packed to the max with inky, black fruits, fresh herbs, licorice, tobacco, coffee, oak and rubber sole.

Dry on the palate with a medium acidity, high tannin and full body. The flavor intensity is pronounced. It is rough, highly extracted with inky black fruit, grass, tobacco, black pepper, fresh herbs, oak and cold coffee.

Very young, tight, grumpy and rugged today. Should be cellared for a long time.

Very traditional with dark reddish fruit (strawberries, cherries) getting support from seaweed, nori and garrigue. It gets a bit darker with food, as if the Mourvedre takes command but the reddishness makes a comeback in the game later. Acidity is fine, tannins are ripe and losing their edge. I'd wait a couple of years or give it a longer decant than the 30 minutes I gave it. 91-ish.

It is on the dark end of the CdP spectrum but not at all flamboyant (in contrast to the Parker fave 2007). Just enjoyable. I was struck by how bright it was on the palate. Relatively low in alcohol and high in acid.
Good comant for simple roasted chicken,

NOSE: strong mineral note (wet stones); spicy; boysenberry.

BODY: medium bodied; wine isn't showing any visual signs of age

TASTE: strong mineral; raspberry; peppery spice; hints of underlying leather and garrigue; "darker" fruit profile than most CdPs; not mind blowing, but very nice nonetheless; drank well over the course of a couple of hours, and was probably at its best with the last glass; drink now or over the next 5 years.
