Deep purple. Blueberries, blackberries, plum and smoke. Not to much tannin and not nearly as rustic as one would think. Very nice balance for a younger wine. Great mouthfeel. Had it with grilled lamb and was perfect.

Wine is 99% Cabernet Sauvignon & 1% Cabernet Franc. Merryvale is among top of our wine expectations. Wine was very dark red in color w/ aromas of currents, black cherry, violets & cedar followed by vanilla & toasted oak notes.

However, tannins are still there but have faded. As w/ the great '07 vintage, should have consumed sooner in its youth. While winemaker indicated aging for 10 years+, sense this wine should be consumed sooner than later...

Blue and black fruit, after the Raymond R this tastes like actual Cabernet. Rounded, well made, works it out for around $25 or so.

Dark red with aromas and flavors of dark fruit, cherries and a little oak. It was medium bodied, dry and very smooth. The after taste was dry and lingering with cherry flavors.

PNP. Couldn't believe what I was tasting. Lush fruit on the attack, almost would have guessed it was a pinot. The finish was pure cab. Long and complex. If you are fortunate enough to have a bottle of this around, enjoy!

This has aged very nicely and was a pleasure to drink. This is a soft, cuddly merlot now. Plum, blueberry, floral notes and just a hint of campfire embers, sweet pine, and white pepper. Nice complexity, good balance, a joy to drink. I am glad I held a bottle this long, but I think it is time to drink these up.

Aromatic of blueberry and blackberry with an herbal green note. Very purple. Fruity but enough tannin to not make it too sweet. Unique straight cab

Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits esp. cassis, licorice, chocolate and well integrated and beautiful oak. On the palate a very harmonious wine with beautiful and ripe dark forest fruits, chocolate, licorice, beautiful acidity and powdery tannin with still a soft bite. Beautiful wine. Ready now and the next 3+ years.

2007 Merryvale Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Grade

Napa Valley more

I recall tasting this wine on release and being blown away by the earthy Oakville nose and dark fruit/currant palate. It still has all of that, but unfortunately it's terribly unbalanced: this is a hot, dark, fruit bomb monster. We paired with garlic & herb rubbed grilled pork and it completely napalmed our dinner. To be fair, there are some good, refined elements, and we enjoyed it as a hedonistic delight with great viscosity, texture and supple dark fruit. Unfortunately, the alcohol (@ 14.9% ABV) and oak overpower everything. Seems like this could last a while but I wouldn't bet on it smoothing out. Still, I'd wait 2017-2017 to see what you get. Right now, it's a big hot mess.

Nice Bourdeaux blend. Decanted for 90 minutes and the wine opened up. Fruit is somewhat muted, would recommend drinking soon.

1999 Merryvale Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

The shoulder of the bottle was packed with sediment, so I decanted for about an hour and a half. Upon decanting, I noticed that wine still looked very youthful- a nice purple rim with no bricking. Notes of creme de cassis, tannic black fruit, and earth were prominent. Flavors of tar, mint, black cherry, black plums, and leather were prominent. The wine was deftly balanced with there being a good amount of fruit left in the wine. I'd don't know if this wine is at it's peak (I'd bet on some good bottle variance) but damn was this a nice wine.

Great wine, at no where near it's end of life- over the hill? Slightly. This wine probably would have been better with a little more fruit in it, but I really enjoyed it's tertiary character. There still was, however, a decent amount of fresh fruit left in the wine. Dominant flavors of fennel, black licorice, and mint, pair well with the tannins. Lean, black and purple fruit play up to the herbals. There is very little barrel character in this wine- any vanilla that was once there, is gone. We didn't finish the bottle all in one night so we poured into a 375ml, vacuumed and finished it the next day.

The wine was noticeably easier to drink the second day and had not fallen off one bit; in fact, it seemed to have improved.

A very well made wine.

Half bottle. Sweet ripe fruit, slightly tarry nose, no lack of freshness in spite of its 14.4% ABV, sweetish but well-judged oak; juicy palate, succulent even, ripe but also slightly drying oak tannins, nice body and intensity, good length. Not subtle or precise but attractive and satisfying. At Gott's Roadside, St. Helena, California, USA - directly accross the road from Merryvale Vineyards!

Nice Cali Bdx. blend.
This shows a very nice nose with black currants, cherries, small berries, some dry dust and gravel along with herbs and leather.
Palate displays drying and fading fruit, with red berries, cassis, dark cherries, leather, earth, tobacco, and gravel stones.
A quite cool overall impression, balanced, without any high alcohol, oak shavings, vanilla or fruit compote jam stealing the show.
Instead almost a sophisticated wine, silky, smooth tannins, with booth good length and good balance.
Nice, and time to finish, as fruit is drying up and fading.
