Excellent, or good (as you prefer) as always. With a simple lunch of grissini and salame, followed by pasta with pesto. Lifted, nearly medium bodied and delicious, with vibrant acids and just the right amount of perfectly ripe fruit. recommended

Pnp, served non-blind; diam cork.

Similar in color to the Pelaverga; sweet/ripe red fruits on the nose.

Not quite as "lean" as the Pelaverga, and also with a little less acidity (although still adequate) and displaying riper red fruit on the palate, so while this is also a wine that will do better with food, it could also be enjoyed on it's own.

Interesting. Not super complex, but light and pleasant. Nose of black pepper. Palate carries the pepper notes over, and adds a wee touch of cherry plus another flavor I can only describe as rainwater. Like, dusty water. If that makes any sense.

This is riper than previous vintages with slight cinnamon note. I enjoyed the 12 & 13 a bit more and thought they were better balanced. Nice.

Med-dark ruby color, with an explosive nose of fruits, wood, berries and soil. The palate is even better than the nose suggests, and as a bonus this is perfectly structured and a really good food wine, too. The price might keep some away, but one taste and you're in, two tastes and you'll want more bottles but only 999 were produced. 14,5% (fully integrated), drink this thru 2025. 100% Barbera. highly recommended

PnP, served non-blind, this went fabulously with the Panna e Speck pizza at Toscanacci (with plenty of house-made piccante oil, too).

Nice medium-light garnet color, clear throughout. Some less than ideal aromas including some reduction at first, so I gave it 30 minutes in wide-bottom decanter and everything was A-OK. Roses, soil and some dried herbs on the nose, with a nicely lifted medium-bodied palate that was clean and offered moderate length. Pretty much the opposite of a cocktail wine, this was really good with prosciutto cotto, grissini, gorgonzola dolce...you know, lunch. Just as good on day 2, I'll be reloading on this very soon. Picked this up at Enoteca Boero Mario in Asti for €13. 13,5% abv, drink thru 2018. recommended

PnP, served non-blind

Som vanligt ett intressent vin. Mognaden är ni fin och domineras av en fräsch frukt som tonar ut i vanilj. Mycket bra nu men håller sannolikt flera år ytterligare.

I kid you not, this stuff is delicious and much of that impression comes from the sheer unusual-ness of this varietal wine. Lithe, perfumed, lightly tannic but not enough to upset a dish of Asian style steamed fish, this is a delightful drink. An elixir of roses, violets and juicy red fruit. Have no idea if this can take some cellar age, but at our house it's likely to be consumed in the very near term.

This bottle showed the best of the ones I bought. Loads of flowery perfume and licorice on the nose but without being overly herbal or medicinal, balanced by juicy and bright red fruits. Good acidity, medium- tannin and medium bodied. Worked very well with a variety of foods.

Good nose of vibrant dark fruit. Medium bodied, very smooth with almost no tannins, delivering juicy dark berries with firm acidity and a bit of austere finish. Overall, a fruity wine with low tannins that is nice to drink but so what? Don´t quite understand the hype and high scores about it. It is a bit different, yes but I´m not sure it is that great.

SAQ N° 12237697 24,90$ jadis

Robe grenat sombre, cerise nouer, belles jambes.

****

As with the '11, this is intensely aromatic and quite an interesting wine. Ruby to crimson in color, going rosy towards the edges with a clear meniscus. The floral notes of rose, hibiscus, lavender, and potpourri jump out of the glass, along with dried clove and fresh sage and oregano. Knockout nose for sure. On the palate it's light to medium body, with medium(+) acidity and finish, and flavors of high toned red fruits, cherry cough drop, red licorice, bitter orange peel, and iodine. Not for everyone, but I find it super interesting and enjoyable.

PnP. Aroma of violet, boysenberry. Very little volatile blow off. Color is fairly purple with a bit of fade towards the edge. Taste of boysenberry, licorice, some herbal notes and mushroom with acidity and a bit of tannin in the middle. There is a bit of harshness in the finish. After 15-20 minutes notes of purple grape, menthol and a bit of heat appearing and the harshness is fading. With food a more candy aroma stands out. Drinking with dinner of sausage, broccoli and red pepper in a Parmesan cream sauce. This wine is very good with floral notes, and notes of very bright cherry, boysenberry and grape. It did not bowl us over.

Based on other tasting notes, I decided that this needed lots of air, so I double decanted a day in advance. No sediment. Crimson color. Flowery cherry and violet nose, almost intoxicating in intensity. The cherry and other red fruit on the palate are balanced by mild acids and subdued tannins. A medium bodied delight which lingers with a lengthy finish. Certainly could never be mistaken as being one of its famous Piedmont neighbors (Barolos and Barbarescos), and it is totally accessible at this early age. Should drink well for several more years. At $22, a great QPR. If you drink this with a totally open mind, putting aside any affinity for nebbiolo, sangiovese or cabernet, you may find this to be a great treat.

First time I tried this grape, smoothe and silky with cherries and forest floor, quite light,
great with chicken and lighter veal dishes.

In the two years since drinking my first bottle, I'd not been drawn to open the remaining bottle - until our 2015 Thanksgiving with "wildly international" theme. With some oddball food pairings (representing Mexico, India, Persia, Peru, China, Israel, Uzbekistan, and a few funky fusions), why not this oddball hard-to-pair Piemontese?

And, ya know - it shone, working at least as well if not better than its comrades-in-vino from Rheingau, Sonoma, and Hungary. It was companionable with some fairly tough customers like an assertive ancho-based gravy and roasted squash with five-spice and Sriracha; and FANTASTIC with braised apples/sour cherry with a healthy dose of curry (yes, again, *this wine adores curry*) powder, and also with the Kermani Polow, a pilaf with lots of pistachios, cardamom, dill, and crucially, rose petals which matched the wine's rosy florality.

This is the rare red wine you don't want to serve with a slab of red meat: it actually probably won't go that well, and it's an enormous wasted opportunity. This bottling is a *specialist* of the highest order just waiting to excel where other reds fear to tread.
