This Chardonnay was one of the best I've ever had, and should be for $100.00 a bottle. Balanced, very full bodied, with peach, honey, ripe banana, and grapefruit with some slight minearality. The oaking (french) was mild, rounding out the edges and was well done, not overpowering at all. Reminded me me of Grigich's Chardonnay, although slightly more full bodied with a longer finish. Paired well with Chicken Milanese. |

Initially, this wine was very closed and the heat from the alcohol was overwhelming. After decanting and swirling, aromas of dark berries, cherries, tobacco, violets, and cedar developed. The wine is robust and masculine, with layers of dark cherries, blackberries, plums, and black currents. There are also tastes of leather, vanilla, and wood. The flavor was ripe cherries with chocolate. Soft tannins made for a smooth finish. Delicious all by itself, it was also a great match with some sweet frosted poppy-seed roll. This wine is a treat that I think is ready to drink now. |
