VinItaly Day 2 (Verona, Italy): 70% Petite Verdot, 30% Cesanese d'Affile; 1,000m; darker color, high extraction, bright rim; sexy nose, floral, mix of red and dark berry, luxurious; silky tannin for grape, deep, vegetal, Bordeaux-esque, the 15.5% is not noticeable, polished and luxurious; wow.

VinItaly Day 2 (Verona, Italy): Lowest elevation at 500m; deeper rose, see through; denser on nose, strawberry, cherry, very red fruit profile, roses; strong tannin, similar to Nebbiolo; delicious.

Two very nice and consistent magnums on the night. No decanting and we didn't feel it needed it.
Albeit a medium wine on the palate this was quite intense, darkish, smoky side and very interesting. Cherries across. Light on the tannin side and could use some more depth but an overall very good wine. A proper 90 but nothing more. Drink from now.

Bought after hearing all the comparisons to Chambolle, which turn out to be apt only as it relates to the smooth texture of this wine. Otherwise, this wine is much more savory than Chambolle of similar age. Likeable but not sure if I will rush to buy more at the $38 price level.

La Pergola, Rome. Nerelio Mascalese grapes. Near Mt Etna. 130 year old vines planted sporadically near the actual lava flows. A seriously nice, soft taninic red with Pinot Noir elements and a relatively short finish. Lacks roundness and sophistication of a red Burgundy, but reminiscent nevertheless. Mediterranean terroir, but Burgundy balance and creaminess. No history of old vintages as only 2,000 bottles per year. Definitely can lay down for 10+ years. Everything from A to Z done by hand. No sulfites, filtering or anything modern. Wow!!! Served in a red Burgundy glass that is much smaller than the white glass.

Strawberry, raspberry, red currants on the nose. Very light colour, light body, light tannin, very fragrant, floral. Medium complexity. Such a strong mineral core, but has a feathery fealing about it. Will surely improve even further. (91+)

Lovely mineralogy. Nice tannin grip. Good fruits (red). Light in colour and more power than it looks. Alcohol not in evidence. Really interesting

Workshop Faculty Dinner (My House, Denver, CO): Decanted 45 minutes. Translucent garnet. Light red berries, cherry, floral and spice notes on the nose. Medium/light fruit weight on the palate with excellent red fruit expression. Slightly tense with bright acidity and sharp tannins that were not intrusive. Screams for a food pairing and we got a great one with the green garlic/thyme risotto.

Tart cherry, pebble, a bit of herbalness, alon with the touchstone volcanic etna minerality. Plenty of energy with good acid and finish. Very pleasant if currently a bit brisk at the moment. I'd hold for a couple of years.

tasted at a free wine tasting of the winemaker at Radrizzani's in Milan. Really impressive for complexity and tannins. astringent in the mouth revealing a greay stuff for the years to come. Wonder what "contrada" crus (Porcaria, Chiappemacine etc) Passopisciaro are like (6 in my cellar)

Fantastic right now ! Just the rigth amount of evoltion aromas, classy texture (tannins are now resolved). Still great acidity on the finish. Length, Power and finesse united. One of the best wines of the year for me.

Consistent with my previous notes. Lighter and leaner proportioned yet with rather prominent acid and tannin structure. Offers up an aromatic and flavor profile of tart cranberry, dried red cherry skin, soil/earth tones, and a distinctive volcanic rock note anchoring the wine.

Ljusröd färg, som lingondricka. Intensivt rödfruktig (körsbär, lingon) i näsan med lite brända toner och örter. Mindre än medelfyllig kropp i munnen, med röd frukt, örter, och en hel del mineraler. Elegant och tajt med superfrisk syra och fortfarande vitala tanniner som ger stadga och struktur. Håller länge än!
Till lammfärsbiffar med siciliansk parmigiana di zucchine (zucchini, tomatsås, kokta ägg, mozzarella, parmesan, basilika och mynta). Mycket gott!
