Big nose with lots of spice and pepper. Full bodied for Grenache, if not for a Pax wine. Lots of complexity and depth on the palette - mostly raspberry, black currants, and even black olives at the finish. Will be interesting to see how it ages.

Dark inky purple color. Pepper licorice and dark fruits. Popped and poured and went great with short ribs in a spicy mole sauce. Can drink now or wait a little bit I think. Tannins firm still and a little chalky. A really nice wine for big food.

Yes, old school describes this wine well. Seems to have more ageability ahead but our last bottle.

Gorgeous effusive nose of blackberry, herbs, cedar and spice. Palate has concentrated, mature black fruit with a big burst of juicy acidity. Herbs and cedar on the finish. In a good spot - still has plenty of youthful energy and structure with fruit that is still concentrated but maturing. In a good spot.

Really wish i had more. Liked this best on day 2, and right at opening. Developed a bit of grapey, light-grenache funk in the interim, then outgrew it into a deep, well-balanced ringer for very good, ultra-clean CdP. Cherries, spice (lots of it) and a touch of milk chocolate (with chile)

Decant vigorously to get to the "day 2" stage. Thats what you want!

Big berry and violet nose. Fruit is more subdued on the palate. Blackberry and bacon, leather, rosemary and sage, bright acid and strong tannin on a medium to long finish. Excellent wine evolving nicely. I imagine the fruit was rich a few years ago and is just starting to take a backseat to savory favors. The acid and tannins will balance this well for years to come. One of my favorite Pax. Wish I had more.

Great nose and big fruit. Tannins smoothed out. Seems to be at or near its peak. Very enjoyable.

Initially, too hot and closed directly out of the bottle. After a one hour decant: blackberry and mint on the nose. The nose still has a bit too much alcohol to enjoy. 11 years in the bottle and still plenty of structure with medium-high tannins and acidity. As you would expect, the freshness of the fruit is gone. The palate is of blackberry, black currant and bitter dark chocolate with a short finish. The alcohol is evident, but not over-whelming. The big winner here is the mouth-feel. A beautiful Northern Rhone kind of character that starts a little oily and finishes with mouth-coating, grainy tannins that were a little to the rustic side of velvetty. This wine has the structure to sit in the cellar much longer, but the fruit will not last. Best drinking window is/was probably 2012-2016. Other notes here describe a fruit-forward wine with a sweet finish. This bottle was very dry and had a subdued fruit character.

Dark purple in the glass. Sweet blackberry on the nose. Lots of blackberry fruit on the palate, plenty of time left but not likely to improve.

Decanted 2:15 then rebottled for transport, followed by another hour with the cork pulled. similar to '06 Obsidian (i.e., closed) and after 90 minutes I decanted the remaining 1/3 of a bottle. While clearly possessing nice fruit and structure, it seemed more one-dimensional to me than the others by the end of the night, which I chalk up to still not being open. Hold.

Decanted 2:15 then rebottled for transport, followed by another hour with the cork pulled. clearly the most Northern Rhone of the tasting, just gorgeous with bloody meat on the nose, fruit and more pepper than the other wines. delicious.

Decanted 2:15, then rebottled, transported to tasting site, and uncorked for another hour. wow, still very tight at the onset but opened nicely (earth, dark fruit, herbs) by the time we were all losing our palates with dinner. no rush here.

Decanted 2:15, then rebottled, transported to tasting site, and uncorked for another hour. shy nose but beautiful, the minerality shows through as does the dark fruit. persistent finish but still tight after all that air. not sure if its an air/time issue or just how the wine turned out, but I'm holding the last one for a few years more.

Pulled cork in the morning and let sit open for 10 hours. WOTN in this 2006 horizontal for 2/3 of those present. meaty lavender nose and lush finish with consistent flavors, just a beautiful wine. Think the air really helped, no rush to drink these.

Decanted through a vinturi and let sit for two hours, fruit on the nose, the palate is cherry, red berries and spice. A nice long finish. It went really well with the vegan dinner that I had to serve for visiting cousins.
