Black Cat 101 (Undisclosed Italian Location in NY, NY): I first had this one shortly after the release, and we’ve been following the development of this one for a while now :-)
This time, we decided to put it on a solo show for starter. Goldish yellow, remains more on the bright gold side. Dry compare to other champs (which I like a lot) ,oak and fruits, or as one of the tasters said “glory in a bottle!”. Since this is the sixth time I’m having this one, I can’t really a lot more compared to previous notes, but I can certainly reinforce previous ones. Dry side champ, oak and fruits in first touch, more peach and lemon this time. Nice, long bubbles bubbles with long finish. We got few more of those in 2013, and I guess I under estimated how good this one would be because I believe we’re down to one or two bottles left, while this champagne still has years ahead of it to live and be enjoyable.

So, to sum- consistent with previous notes. Probably the most reliable champagne I can think of.

Vote by the bottle- empty bottle. Too bad we're running low on this one.

Man, I still can't figure out why nobody cares about Coteaux Champenois except me. This is gorgeous. I actually might have pegged it for red Burgundy at first as it is thicker and heavier than Coteaux Champenois pinot tends to be. But it still has that characteristic Champenois minerality that doesn't really fit with any Burgundy I can think of, as if the wine was full of metal shavings. There's a somewhat gamy layer there too which comes out on the back end. This is really nice, not quite as graceful or weightless as some CC but still a very elegant and satisfying drink and packed with personality.

Great minerality that suggests a really crisp rose, but a nice mix of richness to lighten things up a bit. Very elegant, with nothing overpowering. Soft on the palate, very crisp acidity, a hint of grapefruit pith on the very refreshing finish.

Serious acidity with a softness on the palate. Bubbles seem less bold than the NV so this comes off as a lot more elegant. Clean finish leaving some slate notes. All that said, this still came off a little young. I think it would be really nice to see this in a while...

K&L Spring Champagne Tasting (K&L Hollywood): Very pale straw in color. Richer still than the Marguet and Launois that preceded it. Citrus on the nose and some nutty notes. Soft, fluffy mousse. Hint of tang on the finish, which is refreshing but shows a litle pepper/heat.

Table 21 (Volt): Nice start. Dry and crisp tithe wine had good acidity and worked well with all the dishes. Particularly worked well with the egg, which was whipped with the hollandaise and returned to the shell. The wine cut through the richness like a laser.

Let the other bottle sit a couple years, This may mellow into my wheelhouse.

K&L Champagne tasting-SF. Nose of apple, melon, yeast, touch of minerals, more of the same on the palate, medium body, slightly simple but well made for $36, some complexity, somehow different than other NV tasted today, long finish.

K&L Champagne tasting-SF. Yeast, baked apple tart, rich floral notes, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty and concentrated, mineral and citrus driven, better than a year ago, flavorful and long finish.

Clear, light straw color with little bubbles. Chalky minerality on the nose with lemon zest and yeast. Lightly floral with a hint of honey. The palate is unctous and complex with high acidity and minerality. Nutty and yeasty with lemon curd and ripe lemon. I love this wine every time I open a bottle!

12.5% - Clear, med lemon, constant bubbles / clean, med to pronounced intensity - citrus zest, lemon custard, brioche, nutty / dry, high (lemon like) acidity, med to light body, med+ intensity, persistent finish. Good way to kick off the new year

Cepages Holiday Tasting: Champagne & Riesling (New York City): Drank at Cepages holiday tasting. Seemed a bit oxidized on opening. Lots of toast and biscuit on the nose. Quite yeasty, nutty & lots of caramel (denoting this oxidized style). Seemed like more than a 50/50 blend to me, as I found pinot to be predominant. Medium bodied, very creamy and fairly rich. Well made champagne but not my favored style.

Richness and texture suggests barrel fermentation; good body; medium complexity suggesting younger base wine and minimal reserve wine; finish is shorter than desired/expected.

Nose: The nose smells like a beautiful spring morning with cherry blossoms, roses, white fruits, green apples, pears, minerals, and fresh picked berries. There is excellent depth with a real freshness to the nose as well.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity. The acidity has some real punch to it, but it isn't too overpowering with cherry blossoms, white fruits, green apples, fresh picked berries, and a real nice underlying minerality.

Overall: This is a gorgeous Blanc de Noirs. It shows off the class and elegance that pinot noir can bring along with a real freshness too.
