Opened at Anvil for Allred's birthday. From magnum. A lovely nutty brioche that improves as it warms. Beauty.

From magnum, courtesy of M/M thelostverse, disgorged in April 2013. Excellent Champagne. Very rich and toasty with aromas of marshmallow, nuts and baked orchard fruit. Fine bead with nice underlying acidity and flavors of orchard fruit, marshmallow, toasted vanilla bean, egg crème soda and ginger. Long finish where it picks up an interesting coriander/spice note.

Time to Taste 2000 Bordeaux (R&D's): Opened by our hosts. Notes of apple, almond and citrus becoming more toasty and yeasty as it opens. Flavors of chalk, citrus and mineral with a terrific nutty quality lingering on the finish. Fine bead with good underlying acidity, this was drinking very well. I have a couple of bottles which will remain tucked away for a few years yet, but there's certainly no harm in enjoying this now.

Tasted along with the Blanc de Blanc. It is a winner of the two. More developed nose and palate taste. Longer finish. On the dry side. A good cont. on the line of the '02-'04 vintages that I enjoyed alot. Already drinks well and over the evening the taste evolve. Drink or hold

Second time tasting, this time along with the Blanc de Noirs and other two additional sparkling wines (NZ and Chile). Improved from last year- longer finish and more balanced on the nose. Very refreshing. That said, still non fair comparison to the Paillard '02 and '04. Open or hold this time.

Third time tasted. This time not coming across quite as rich, though it was cold (direct from ice bucket), pop and pour and may have been a slightly newer disgorgement. Somewhere in the middle of the road stylistically between rich and lean. The nose features lots of green apple, mineral, lime, lemon, flint and a touch of coffee bean. Palate has well measured dosage, feeling like 8-9 g/l and high biting malic acid. A bit young, this NV could easily be one to age and I'm holding some for this reason.

70 chard 30 pinot. All estate all bouzy. Fantastic. Classic cherry, framboise, chard comes though with structure. Great length and balance. 8 generations 11 hectares all in bouzy. Giddy up.

Black Cat 101 (Undisclosed Italian Location in NY, NY): I first had this one shortly after the release, and we’ve been following the development of this one for a while now :-)
This time, we decided to put it on a solo show for starter. Goldish yellow, remains more on the bright gold side. Dry compare to other champs (which I like a lot) ,oak and fruits, or as one of the tasters said “glory in a bottle!”. Since this is the sixth time I’m having this one, I can’t really a lot more compared to previous notes, but I can certainly reinforce previous ones. Dry side champ, oak and fruits in first touch, more peach and lemon this time. Nice, long bubbles bubbles with long finish. We got few more of those in 2013, and I guess I under estimated how good this one would be because I believe we’re down to one or two bottles left, while this champagne still has years ahead of it to live and be enjoyable.

So, to sum- consistent with previous notes. Probably the most reliable champagne I can think of.

Vote by the bottle- empty bottle. Too bad we're running low on this one.

Coteaux Champenois Pinot Noir more

Man, I still can't figure out why nobody cares about Coteaux Champenois except me. This is gorgeous. I actually might have pegged it for red Burgundy at first as it is thicker and heavier than Coteaux Champenois pinot tends to be. But it still has that characteristic Champenois minerality that doesn't really fit with any Burgundy I can think of, as if the wine was full of metal shavings. There's a somewhat gamy layer there too which comes out on the back end. This is really nice, not quite as graceful or weightless as some CC but still a very elegant and satisfying drink and packed with personality.

K&L Spring Champagne Tasting (K&L Hollywood): Pale salmon in color. Maybe my favorite wine at the tasting. Great minerality that suggests a really crisp rose, but a nice mix of richness to lighten things up a bit. Very elegant, with nothing overpowering. Soft on the palate, very crisp acidity, a hint of grapefruit pith on the very refreshing finish.

K&L Spring Champagne Tasting (K&L Hollywood): Light gold in color. Came off less rich than the previous Paillard (NV), but good slatelike minerality and maybe some oak spice. Serious acidity with a softness on the palate. Bubbles seem less bold than the NV so this comes off as a lot more elegant. Clean finish leaving some slate notes. All that said, this still came off a little young. I think it would be really nice to see this in a while...

K&L Spring Champagne Tasting (K&L Hollywood): Very pale straw in color. Richer still than the Marguet and Launois that preceded it. Citrus on the nose and some nutty notes. Soft, fluffy mousse. Hint of tang on the finish, which is refreshing but shows a litle pepper/heat.

Table 21 (Volt): Nice start. Dry and crisp tithe wine had good acidity and worked well with all the dishes. Particularly worked well with the egg, which was whipped with the hollandaise and returned to the shell. The wine cut through the richness like a laser.

DRY, big yeast and mineral, maybe a touch of almond, hint of citrus. This has got a serious backbone, and decent acidity, but is not really my style.
Let the other bottle sit a couple years, This may mellow into my wheelhouse.

K&L Champagne tasting-SF. Nose of apple, melon, yeast, touch of minerals, more of the same on the palate, medium body, slightly simple but well made for $36, some complexity, somehow different than other NV tasted today, long finish.

Clear, light straw color with little bubbles. Chalky minerality on the nose with lemon zest and yeast. Lightly floral with a hint of honey. The palate is unctous and complex with high acidity and minerality. Nutty and yeasty with lemon curd and ripe lemon. I love this wine every time I open a bottle!

disgorged June 2013 - lovely primary-fruit driven champagne, soft mousse, lots of pear, some peach and stonefruit, dry but fruit-driven, more-more-moreish, very flexible with food, went great with spicy szechuan, a real winner and very great quality for price, will revisit for sure
