It has been a while since I was blown away, and this wine did it. The nose was dark fruit, tobacco with some herbal notes. Decanted for about an hour. Initial taste was stewed fruit with a very complex and layered finish. Vegetable notes at the back (green pepper). The long finish was smooth and allowed the wine to be savored. The mouth feel was lush and velvety. As the wine opened hints of raisin pushed through without being intrusive. We enjoyed this following a sancerre but I made the mistake of drinking it with my seared foie gras which did not pair well. The next course of ricotta gnocchi with a sausage bolognese could not have been a better complement. This is definitely a food wine, I only wish I had a few more bottles. Can't wait to dive into the poggio antico reserves in a few years.

Very good, mature Brunello that is still holding up well. Consistent notes (see earlier TN), in terms of absolute rating would see it at at a slightly less enthusiastic but still very good 90-91 points

A big, surly, dense wine full of ripe fruit, bitter chocolate and earth. It has a core of intense, sweet dark fruit. It is a powerful, muscular wine with a strong savoury frame. The finish is strewn with iron filings and there are notes of smoked meats and tar.

Tasted during Great Wines of Italy event in NYC. Intense aromas of rose and red fruits jump from the glass. Medium to full bodied with extremely fine tannins and an extended finish. Drinking amazing well right now and with time further complexity should come out. Definitely a wine worth seeking out.

Decanted and had with steak, Brussels sprouts and corn. Give this more time for sure but agree with others it's drinking pretty well right now. Nice dark cherry, earthy aromas. Bigger Sangiovese wine but very easy to drink now, needs the time for some more complexity.

Apologies for mailing it in with a lack of descriptives herein. I found this very pleasant....in a rather unremarkable way! Quite nice, but have to believe this continues to improve with patience. Hold

Subtle oak, sweet dark cherry fruit, mocha, roses, complex dark fruits. Palate is smooth and rich with high acidity. I assume it will be better in 5+ years but this is so good now!

Im comparing this bottle to a Caparone sangiovese from the Central Coast, CA. The strawberry-cherry nose and flavor are very similar. Unlike the Caparone, the Poggio appears to be fined, and it has more tannin and ABV(!) than the domestic. While equally enjoyable, im scoring the brunello slightly higher (at 4X the price!) for it's superior structure. Since im all about QPR, my next purchase should be obvious.

Drank 2 bottles on two different occasions that showed a very advanced wine. Despite pristine corks, one bottle tasted tired and raisiny, with almost cloudy, brownish wine; the second bottle showed dominant balsamic and woody aromatics, lacking in finesse and minerality. Acquired both bottles from the same distributor -- a substandard storage issue, perhaps?

A Good brunello overall. Didn't have time to decant it on first evening, so the second half of the bottle was better after night (closed in fridge).

Great intense ruby color!!!! Aromas of plum and berries. Lightly acidic on the palate that improves with cooling. Great red to drink with steaks. Will look to buy more.

This was dominated by wood and mint notes, with the fruit somewhat in the background. Worth drinking but not very good. I hope an off bottle, as I enjoyed this the last time I had it.

This wine came into its beauty after an hour of decanting. The fruit was shy and needed to be coerced but once it did it was a show stopper. Notes of red fruit and eloquently balance with acidity. Med to long finish. Made a perfect match with easter lamb
