Im comparing this bottle to a Caparone sangiovese from the Central Coast, CA. The strawberry-cherry nose and flavor are very similar. Unlike the Caparone, the Poggio appears to be fined, and it has more tannin and ABV(!) than the domestic. While equally enjoyable, im scoring the brunello slightly higher (at 4X the price!) for it's superior structure. Since im all about QPR, my next purchase should be obvious.

Rediculously amazing full bodied brunello. Went well with the beef tenderloin. Hold.

Drank 2 bottles on two different occasions that showed a very advanced wine. Despite pristine corks, one bottle tasted tired and raisiny, with almost cloudy, brownish wine; the second bottle showed dominant balsamic and woody aromatics, lacking in finesse and minerality. Acquired both bottles from the same distributor -- a substandard storage issue, perhaps?

A Good brunello overall. Didn't have time to decant it on first evening, so the second half of the bottle was better after night (closed in fridge).

Great intense ruby color!!!! Aromas of plum and berries. Lightly acidic on the palate that improves with cooling. Great red to drink with steaks. Will look to buy more.

Almost a 94. From magnum. Decanted. Great dark fruit with many secondary notes. Complex and smooth. Got slightly better on day 2.

This was dominated by wood and mint notes, with the fruit somewhat in the background. Worth drinking but not very good. I hope an off bottle, as I enjoyed this the last time I had it.

This wine came into its beauty after an hour of decanting. The fruit was shy and needed to be coerced but once it did it was a show stopper. Notes of red fruit and eloquently balance with acidity. Med to long finish. Made a perfect match with easter lamb

Austere and earthy with cherry and light licorice; nice acidity with some light caramel and nice texture carrying to a lingering finish.

Ok la. Needs a bit of air but gentle swill before long. Sweet red cherries and a bit of tobacco. It's a bit weak on the back end - pretty short now and I don't sense much fruit depth here so I don't think this is for anything but the short run. I got it quite cheap so am pleased with it / myself on that account

Slightly off smell at first thought it might be corked.
After a couple hours air nice red fruit (cherry), slight tobacco, nice acidity. Lingering finish. Seem to be some residual tannins.

What a pleasant surprise, still vibrant, plenty of energy (hate to use this Galloni descriptor) but it fits so well. This wine has plenty of life in it, among the most dark red fruit, think plum we've had in a Brunello in a long long time. I think this wine is now in its drinking prime. A long sweet finish was the perfect ending. Did not decant, basically pop and pour over a 2 hour dinner. Wish we had more.

The nose was intense, dark, and truly seductive, as it draws you in with aromas of crushed black cherry and spice with hints of mocha, smoke and pine resin. It was as smooth as silk with velvety weight on the palate as notes of dark, ripe fruits, spiced apple and savory herbs seemed to glide across the senses. The word seamless comes to mind, with a tannic structure that was nearly imperceptible, yet it’s there. The finish was long with a bitter twang to its remnants of black cherry, which lingered on.

Slow-ox'd for six hours. Drinking really well right now showing classic notes of cherry, plum, sottobosco, and a natural sweetness of fruit that comes when tertiary notes have developed in Brunello. Glad to have more in the cellar. Drink now-2020+.

A Mixed Bag in Toronto on a Wednesday (Jay's Place - Toronto, On): Slow-oxed for 6 hours prior to consumption. Pours quite dark with very light bricking. This wine is in such a fantastic spot right now, totally in the zone for my tastes. While clean and free from VA and Brett it is still so traditional with evident use of Slavonian Oak. The nose shows wonderfully savoury notes of balsamic drizzled strawberries, red and dark cherry, old polished wood, undergrowth, dusty soil, rosemary, hints of cured meat and pipe tobacco. The palate is still fairly structured with abundant acid and tannin suggesting there isn't a hurry to drink. The sweet dark cherry textured fruit on the palate is wonderful with a cherry pit finish that lingers nicely. Toward the end of the evening this showed savoury tomato paste notes on the palate that were thoroughly enjoyable. Everything I want in Tuscan Sangiovese.

Very dark red with violet hues. Clear in the glass. Black fruit and vanilla nose. Very nice black fruit, asian spice, mint, and vanilla palate. Very concentrated with firm, stiff tannins and ample acidity. This is a potent, brute of a wine!

These notes are base on wine after about 10hrs in decanter. There was quite a lot of coarse sediment that was easy to remove.

Decanted about 1h and was immediately struck by the strong fruit bouquet. Served around 18 C. I have been drinking this wine since 2006, this was bottle #9 and the first time the fruit was so strong. For the previous bottle, a year ago, tannins had just melted away, but the fruit was subdued. This one however showed a much more interesting balance; everybody loved it. Maybe the wine is reaching optimal drinking window (or it was a lucky bottle) .

Fruit right away. Upon being open and aerated for a few hours, this was delightful - balanced, med acid, med tannin, fruit but also elements of white pepper and cedar.

Dinner at Home; 2/26/2015-2/27/2015 (Fremont, CA): Medium ruby color with age-appropriate bricking; nose has a lot of funk, very similar to previous bottles which I thought might be flawed... It's just the style and blows off after a while, underlying red fruit, some spice; palate is medium bodied, nice acidity, red fruit, clean; finish is medium length. Despite the initial funkiness, very nice. 86-88
