Women Who Wine & Their Arm Candy (Estelle, St. Paul, MN): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. Had this last about 10 month ago. This was fairly similar to that bottle. Showing some maturity, good weight and some broadness. The fruit seem a bit more golden with apple mainly and some citrus notes, ginger, brioche, nougat, and chalk minerality with the same oxidative character as before. Very good, no danger here. 92+pts.

Straw yellow colour. Bread and yellow apples on the nose with hints of yeast. Taste of yellow apples, minerals and bread with hints of lemon. Creamy mouthfeel with a fresh acidity. Long and dry finish with hints of minerals. A great Champagne! Goes well as an aperitif or with shellfish or poultry.

Deep gold colour. Small and medium lively bubbles. Pronounced and developing nose with ripe green apples, yellow apples, bread, brioche, mushroom and forest floor. Pronounced taste of toast, green apples, red apples, brioche and mushroom. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. An outstanding Vintage Champagne. Part of my WSET3 exam prep. Drink now or over the next 25 years. Goes well as aperitif, or with cured meat or shellfish.

Nice breadth and depth --- nothing earth-shattering or amazing, but undeniably excellent. Good acidity. Rich, but not too heavy -- some chewy breadiness. Showing some light-to-moderate aged character, but in no danger of rapid decline. Drink or Hold.

Danish Top 20 champagne blind tasting vintage 2012 (24 btls) (Nimb): Horisontal half blind tasting of 24 top champagnes from vintage 2012. Conclusion: It is a great vintage. My topratings were to some extent unexpected. My winner was Diebolt-Vallois Fleur de Passion which I rated 96. In a shared second place with 94+ were Legras Saint Vincent (unexpected but I don't forget that 1996 might be the best champagne I have ever tasted so far. Try to get a btl. if you can. It is difficult but worth it - still in a perfect drinking window), Veuve Clicquot vintage(!), Moet & Chandon Grand vintage(!) and Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque.

This wine: Notes of lemon and grapefruit , roasted coffee, brioche, bread dough, no apple, no oxidative notes. A little of the modern bitterness on the palate. Outstanding, 94+

Middag med A+N och P+H i Sundbyberg (A+N, Sundbyberg): (Disgorged in December 2005, 100% Chardonnay from Partelaines vineyard in Chouilly, dosage 3-4 gr/l)
Lovely golden yellow colour with a mature nose showing baked bread, butter and dark chocolate and opens up with some herbal touch of licorice in a very pleasant way. Still showing a distinct green apples crispy acidity on the mature palate with a creamy mid showing lots of butter before some dried fruit takes over on the lengthy and intense finish. Lovely minerals saltiness on the lips as well. This is showing very well right now, but should keep for years to come.

I love this champagne. It’s complex and a perfect example of this vintage. Restrained aromas of bread yeast, dried pineapple, dried apricots, candied ginger, brioche, and honey gives way to deep notes of lemon oil, poached pears, and sea shells on the palate. Marvelous energy and structure. Should be good for another 10 years at least. Tasted in both a Zalto champagne and a white wine stem, and I preferred the latter.

Glad I got a good stash of the 2008 based release (old label) as this just keeps giving a wonderful drinking experience. Almost 2 years since the last bottle and this was round creamy and balanced. Still fresh and not showing any signs of oxidation. Even better after 20 -30 minutes.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Pale gold color. Drank a glass at the holiay party reception. Consistent with previous notes. This has such nice toast and brioche notes with plenty of brightness and acidity. Glad there's more in the cellar. I'm curious to see how this will compare to the St. Vincent, though the notes so far are disappointing on that. 93+ to 94pts.

Dinner w/ Jim & Michelene at our place. I feel goofy saying this but tonight this was more impressive than the 2013 Dom Perignon that followed. I opened one of these for the pre-dinner "kitchen staff"; Craig, Nita & Joe and couldn't stop benchmarking it in my head with the 2013 Dom we served later. Side by side and blind I might have guess this to be the Dom. Always one of our favorite house champagnes, year in and year out. Let's see, one 2013 DP or six of these for the same cost. Something to ponder :). Normally DP easily walks away with the prize. I hope the 2013 impresses more down the line.

Bought these in 375 and they are missing the "Grand Cru" designation under the word "Brut." Hard to believe that would be an oversight or accidental, so we suspect this is not the wine we are used to and it showed in the battle.

This is missing some of the acid and chalkiness we've come to expect. Maybe it's a base vintage thing, rather than not being grand cru? Not sure, but we're a little disappointed.

Quick Notes Series
Drank from a magnum. Although the lovely brioche and white flowers are certain present in this vintage Champagne which is fairly nice, but I find that there's this bitter ness in the aftertaste which made this wine a little unbalanced. This is my second magnum so I think it's fair to draw a conclusion to this wine now. One should drink up as I doubt there will be more improvements from here onwards.

2nd tasting of this wine - better first time.

Quite golden color. Aromas of seashells, rye, butter, and some citrus. Lovely depth, although some oxidation are present. Maybe a hint of a downward development from here.

Drink.

Golden colour. Citrus, seashells and some rye bread. Deep and complex. Retain acidity and creamy mousse. Fresh red-green apples and hints of oyster shells. Long finish. a bit more oxidised than last and I would hence recommend start drinking up now.

Green-yellow color. Lighter Nose, but also smells aged; apples; guessing early ‘10’s. Medium-light to medium bodied. Crisp and brassy palate. Medium+ to high acidity; somewhat straightforward, but I think this simply needs air --- it improved over time.

2008 top champagnes - horisontal wine tasting dinner (Rest MG (kg arr)): Second 2008 horisontal champagne half blind tasting dinner. First time June 2021. Back then the vintage was extremely youthful. How is it now? An almost unbelievable development in just 2 years. As a wine enthusiast I must simply surrender. I was skeptical about the drinkability at this point for this extreme vintage. That skepticism was proven wrong. 2008 can definitely be enjoyed now. For me, it's one of my really great tasting experiences. And there has certainly been many... Add to that, the vintage is only in its initial stage of maturation and therefore still youthful but extremely charming and open. I really look forward to tasting the 2008 vintage once a year in the coming many years experiencing the tertiary notes develop.

Notes of lemon, ripe apple. Still youthful. Rating based on performance right now 95+. Vintage 1996 clearly better than 2008 (see my note on that one)

There was one outsider of the evening: We also tasted Legras 1996 against 2008. 1996 is one of my all time favourites. This time it was once again performing at an outstanding level close to extraordinary. I rated it 97+. Complex with clearly tertiary notes (ex. coffee) but not oxidised at all. Don't know how long this cuvee's drinking window is going to be. I have tasted it many times and have only once experienced a bottle which had pasts its best. Fortunately I still have a couple of btls and magnums in the cellar. Clearly better than 2008 (see my note on that one)

Pale gold color. Drank 2 glasses to kick off our North Shore excursion. These are so damn good, I hate to even add, at the price point. The nose is precocious, with its fresh pear notes wrapped up in pie crust and creamy patisserie, green apple, biscuit and light toast. The palate echos the purity of pear fruit, pastry cream, stony spice notes and a definitive toasty note on an elegant finish. Just delightful. 92+ to 93pts.
