2010 Rasa Vineyards In Order to Form a More Perfect Union

Columbia Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

Hour decant, the nose on this is exquisite, with rich tones of dark fruit and a touch of cedar and vanilla. The palate is equally lush, with a great balance of acidity and just the right level of grippy tannins to accentuate the blackberry and hint of leather tones. The mouthfeel is silky and the finish is medium, with complexity showing up as it coats the mouth. Great bottle of wine.

Side by side with 2014 No Girls Grenache. Both from the Rocks District. This was ready to drink soon after pouring with just a bit over-balance on the fruit that receded with time and was fully in balance the next day. Day 2 the Rasa was a complete wine with all aspects in harmony and drinking "delicious." A person could make Grenache a daily drinker with a wine like this. It was the much superior wine in part because the No Girls went from bad (85) to mediocre (89) whereas the Rasa went from good (90+) to quite nice (92).

Definitely getting better with air. Started pretty hollow, but now has some black fruit, leather, and oak, with medium tannins. Black tea hit towards the end of the taste and into the finish. I liked it a bit better a year ago. Still good and with some life left, but I’d say drink ‘em if ya got ‘em!

Definitely a bigger style with a lot of oak. Fruit forward with some tannins. If you’re looking for the style and polish that you might see in +1 or For the Love of the Game, you’ve simply come to the wrong place. If you’re looking for a good value, fun to drink wine while those other wines cellar, this is going to be your jam.

We run to lower publicized wines from great winemakers. Sorry we did on this wine, as it was horrible. Nose: Dark fruits, woody, leather, a sense of a richer big flavor. Taste: Smoky and Merlot like. We decanted this for 2 hours, and kept acting like it wasn’t decanted. Once we realized we had done the right thing by decanting, here were our thoughts. Bitter, impossible to find fruit. A disgusting tannin bomb, that should not be drank yet. Tastes like a shitty blend that you might get at a low end steak house. Does NOT inspire me to buy the many $135 offerings Rasa offers. Avoid this garbage, as they should have put this down the drain. I might be interested in trying their $135 offerings. But NEVER this garbage in a bottle again.

Side by side with '09 Lillian Blue Label. 4.5+8.5*+4.5*+9+9+4.5+4.5=94+ Definitely in the dark fruit spectrum of Syrah with less of the smoked meat character. This is just so fresh, vibrant, and upfront with its luscious fruit and depth. Really a lovely wine that poured ready to drink but I would guess it still has a good number of plateau years ahead if you have multiple bottles. Certainly drink now for a purity of black fruit that is in wonderful balance on the palate. It is about as good as you could expect for this price point, locale, vintage. Day 3 (pumped): This remains much the same wine as the day opened. Obviously extremely well-made.

Wow - What a difference a few years makes. Looking back at my note from 2020, it's hard to understand why I only gave it 90 points. There was nothing in my notes that really spoke of any deficiencies in the wine, but for whatever reason I decided to leave the numeric score at 90. Today, that seems almost comically conservative. This wine is singing in a way that I was almost not sure Washington was capable of. It's peeling off in layers like a first growth Bordeaux. It's got fruit, it's got leather, it's got flowers and minerals, and herbs, and wood, and spice.... It's all over the place! The word that we really settle down as sort of the theme of this wine is "Shapeshifter". It seems to evolve and present something different with each progressive visit back to the glass. I never-ending cornucopia of nuance and complexity.

To be fair, this was the fourth bottle in a series of drinking with friends so I might be a little inebriated. But let me tell you this - I've had 30-year-old first growth Bordeaux. I know the glory that they reveal in their multi-layered capacity. This wine reminds me of that. I'm not saying it's as good or better or should be compared or whatever I'm just saying that it reminds me of that type of wine drinking. Which is pretty profound for a new world red blend. I'm impressed.

Opened for Last Puppy Night. Clean notes and acidity really shone in this. Perfect palate cleanser with chicken tikka masala, saag aloo, samosas, and pakoras. Consumed over three days, the second half of the bottle on night three showed no decline at all, still showing nice and bright.

Still solid with dark core of black tar, fruit is muted but pleasant, finish in long, and really nice. This wine needed to be drank now/soon as it's on the back side of peak but still really good. My last bottle.

2 hour decant; this one is still just a baby, and was a bit disjointed on day 1 for my palate. Too heavy on the acidity made it feel a bit out of balance for me. Flavors of red raspberry, strawberry, white pepper, and some hints of coffee and bitter dark chocolate. I let half the bottle sit overnight, and it had integrated more and smoothed out the acidity. Fruit became much more sweet, rather than the slight tartness from the high acidity. Delightful wine on day 2 that paired nicely with spicy grilled chicken and broccoli. I'd let this one lay down for another few years. It should be outstanding around 2028 and drink well for another 8-10 years past that.

90 min decant; This is outstanding Cabernet for $22! Very impressed it is drinking so well so young too. Cassis and black cherry fruit with pipe tobacco and hints of loam. Finish showing some vanilla and coffee. Nice acidity and very mild tannin. This will only get better over the next 5 years. Drink now with air - 2031.

I have consumed most of the case of this wine that I bought, and it seems to get better every bottle. This was good on night one PNP, but even better the next night. Dark fruits, sweet bay leaf, pencil shavings. Drinking beautifully now and, as mentioned repeatedly, excellent QPR!
