From memory. Complex aroma of spice, berries and barnyard. Deep pure fruit on the palate, lovely juice, long finish. A beautiful wine, both voluptuous and enigmatic. 50 + 18 + 17 + 9.

Tremendous. Loads of lemon and beaming acidity with spiciness and grip. This absolutely killed with a sesame seared tuna and mango salsa. Coming back to it a couple hours later this tastes like liquid guava, really something else.

Dark ruby, almost completely opaque. Burgundian style, with sweet strawberry-raspberry aromas mixed with subtle oak, already complex. Very viscous. Rich, concentrated berry flavors, concentrated, slightly hot from high alcohol, but very smooth and balanced. Long, somewhat hot but flavorful aftertaste. I would put this against a high-quality Burgundy!

Stellar Night of Bordeaux (NYC): Blind, this would pass for a topnotch white burgundy. Bright and aromatic, with lemon, ginger, lanolin, even a bit saline. A touch of richness, so classy. My first Rhys, I was impressed. 91-92 pts.

Red fruit, earthy, a bit reticent in a good way. Elegant on the palate and nose.

underwhelmed...not bad just did not meet expectations. thought style was more new world/extracted/higher alcohol that RHYS house style. Thought alcohol showed through, wine definitely lacked any texture, was a bit short and secondary flavors were underdeveloped. will be interesting to see this wine in 3-5 years.

Dark red with rose petals nose.
Subtle flavors of sweet berries. Medium long.
Needs another 3-5 years. Lots of potential

This is sort of an outlier as far as Rhys goes. Very ripe, mostly red fruits dominated by cherries and kind of one dimensional. Very low level of tannins and acid. Still enjoyable, but I would drink these sooner vs. later.

One of my realizations on Rhys is that when they shut down, they shut down hard, so I'm trying to enjoy some more of my stash in the early window of opportunity. This one is definitely still there, so rich at first that it's practically saucy though without any candied flavors. Rhys always benefits from a long decant but this one was so primary it needed even more time than most to show its underlying contours and reveal some of the rocks beneath the fruit. What I love about the house style here is that even though this flirts with being too much of a good thing, for all that dense, saturating, luscious fruit, there is still a whole lot of energy and vibrancy here too.

Medium to dark ruby, only slightly translucent. Looks almost like a medium bodied cab. Nose at first seems tarry and a bit like acetone, but gives way to strawberry jam and perhaps cotton candy. California style Pinot Noir with fairly chewy texture. The fruit seems sweet but lacks some complexity and there are few secondary flavors. The finish is a bit short. Not sure how well this will age? My first bottle of Rhys Pinot which is well regarded and hard to come by, but for my taste lacks the finesse and complexity to warrant a much higher score. Better with food like smoked duck leg which was a great complement.

A little more sunshine here - everyone pegged it as the Rhys. Had just a bit of that new world cherry cola. Amazing concentration for a young vine wine. New world, but great. A bit of Christmas spice. Erol thought this was oak; Jim said it might be the clone used for this vineyard.

Lots of dry extract. hints of cherry cola per chris. Sexy.

PnP. Medium deep red. Complex nose of black fruits, spice, and forest floor. Medium full depth on the palate with spicy whole cluster nuances adding to the black/red fruit combo. Long finish which has some tannins to resolve but not obtrusive. This is drinking well but may evolve into something more seamless with a few more years. One of the better Rhys I have had. Opened after an '07 Williams-Selyem Weir proved undrinkable.

Opened and drank after 1 hour. Creamy, strawberry, rhubarb and earth. Tannins a fairly well resolved but not gone completely. It's very good with great balance but lacks complexity. I'd drink now through the next few years.

From 375 ml bottle. Lots of ripe red berry aromas and flavors with baking spice. The package comes across as slightly Vosne-like, but the ripeness slightly detracts from the overall charm. I like the density and concentration here, so think there might be upside as this softens.

At the PEF dinner at our house, decanted this for about 2 hours. Served with our tomato and burrata terrine...turned out to be a greta match and big hit with the crowd.

Consistent with prior notes: "Medium ruby color. Earthy, mineral nose, floral notes. Gentle , Burgundian mouthfeel. Cranberry, tart red fruit, licorice and a hint of clove. Strong and earthy with elegant, restrained character."

The longer decant made a difference here, getting much more in secondary flavors. The wine is still on the primary side, drinking well with bright red fruits and good level of acidity. Good now but I think this will continue to improve, have a few bottles/mags to let rest for a bit

Surprisingly open. Red and purple fruits, violets along with cherries. Not quite the weight I expected and little riper and more forward than I expected either, with very few tannins. Extremely enjoyable but I am not sure if this will improve but rather evolve since it has a lot less spine than any other Rhys I have ever tasted.

Old Bordeaux with Patrick back in town (Fabio's, NYC): Very fresh and precise, with lots of bright citrus and green apple fruit tinged with faint floral notes, and bright acids underneath. I normally have not been that excited by the Rhys wines, but I liked this a lot, and found it very well balanced and refreshing. Just a tough ask to follow the two Zind Humbrechts.

Note: Tasted from a 375 ml bottle. This Wine was open and decanted 5 hours prior to drinking.

Color: Dark red Cherry and very clear in appearance.

Nose: Very tight and closed at the moment. Even after swirling in my large Burgundy glass only a hint of pretty fruit tones come through.

Taste: Much more density and structure compared to the 2013 Bearwallow I had yesterday. The fruit is more reserved but what is showing has excellent balance with moderate acidity on the finish. I am finding this more hard to judge today as all of the elements are playing hide and seek. The long term potential of this wine is great but complexity, flavor nuances and terrior need to be evaluated with much more bottle age. I do really like the elegance, purity and intensity of fruit flavors on this Alpine and this seems to be a common trait on these 2013's I have thus far tasted. This could pass for a good 1er cru in Burgundy from a classic producer as the underlying tension and delicacy is clearly evident. I will rate in 92 today because it has all of the elements for superb Pinot Noir but I would not be surprised if in 6-8 years in the future it scores above that level. If you have any of these put them away and enjoy sometime in the following decade.
