In the mouth, these notes carry on but are guided by espresso, smooth but somewhat coarse tannins, and a fluid finish. Long aftertaste. Delicious. Acid is balanced yet present. Can age for another 3-5 years. This would be a 94-95pt wine if the tannins and acid were more in balance. |

Likes this wine: 89 pointssome evolution in the last year and a half or more since my last TN. the nose continues to be a strength... interestingly, a notable marmalade/orange bitters note on the bouquet as well as tea leaves which i don't recall. on the palate, some tart cherry, florals, good minerality. the wine has softened and the tannins are more integrated now. |

5/15/2023 - huse Does not like this wine: 81 pointsNot really my type of wine. A blend of 70 percent Nero di Troia (an indigenous grape variety of Puglia) and 30 percent Montepulciano. Half of the wine was aged for fourteen months in French barriques, the other half in 30-hl oak casks, followed by further twelve months maturation in bottle. Color: medium intense garnet-red with a watery rim. Bouquet: rather shy nose revealing some aromas of sour cherry, tobacco, leather and a hint of incense. On the palate: quite a rustic wine marked by unripe red forest and cherry fruit ; it was very harsh at the start and smoothed out a bit over time, but the wine is lacking elegance and depth due to the rough tannins and the aggressive acid structure. Finish: astringent aftertaste. I think that at least 4-5 more years of cellaring is needed to smooth out the sharp edges. |

Restrained nose that needs coaxing to open up, but then it reveals sour cherry, chestnut, red leather, blue plum, cured tobacco, cinnamon and violet at the end. Slightly funky but in a good way. Later on some licorice emerges on the nose. Medium bodied, soft tannins, tart acidity, moderate alcohol, dry finish. Initial impressions on the palate are gobs of sour cherry, dusty red plum skins, soft oak, black tea, light tar, licorice and a nicely astringent finish that is fruity and dry and tingly all at the same time. Pretty nice stuff. Slightly challenging - certainly not a sipper - but I certainly like it! |
