Clear, medium intensity, ruby color.

Clean, developing nose with a medium(+) intensity. Savory and rustic nose. Blackberry, juniper, fresh grounded black pepper, meat juice, tobacco, dry soil, decaying leaf and forest floor.

Medium(+) body, medium(+), smooth tannin and medium acidity. A bit rugged mouthfeel and again lots of earthy and meaty notes going on. Medium(+) intensity and a medium(+) finish.

School book northern Rhône Syrah. It really shows that rustic qualities that you expect from great Cornas. A bit developed today but still has potential for further aging.

Northern Rhone Dinner (Asselina): Very ripe black cassisy fruit, and with tons of smoke and earth. Savage, very Cornas, I like the mix of smokey/earthy notes with the fruit. Lots and lots of ripe tannic extract, very dense, but extremely tannic right now. Excellent potential here but this needs at least 10 more years. A bottle of the 1990 a few years ago was wonderful, I would expect similar heights for this wine when mature.

Dark purple color. Smoke and herbs on the nose. Restrained palate, hints of dark fruit, herb, mineral and earth. Firm tannins on the finish. Needs at least another 5 years

Decanted for about 2 hours; This is really, really young but has the makings of a terrific Cornas with 5 more years of age; The nose is rather unyielding, although the palate does show a dense core of olives, minerals, dark fruits and pepper; The tannins clamp down pretty hard on the finish, although they did ease up later on in the night; Safe to say I'm laying my other bottle of this back in the cellar

2004 Rhone Tasting chez Lillelund (Lilleund's home): We tasted this next to the Allemand Reynard, and, sadly, this wine was completely overshadowed by the Allemand. This wine, though, is good in its own right, it's more subtle and understated compared to the Allemand, cool in nature, upright. Benefitted from air.

Ruby color, clear. Impressive nose of vena berry fruit, spice, cedar and holiday spice. Touch of earthy brush. Palate was very balanced and still showing acid. More refined red fruit, earth, tar and garrigue. Nicely made wine.

Excellent wine. Lots of spices and fruit. Drank it with a spicy pasta dish (tuna with a putanesca sauce and it enhances the spicy nature of the sauce.

Senndoff (Adrian's Apartment - Chicago, IL): I was really fond of this. Nice, attractive meaty/dark fruited/olive-driven aromas with soft florals tossed in too. The palate was still firm but had some nice smokey, meaty, cherry tones. Great depth and complexity.

Senn-d off: Dark fruit and just a slight hint of animale on the nose. This is very rich and dense syrah, with a lovely velvet texture. There's a huge bunch of tannins here, and a few of us remarked how nebbioloesque the tannins were on this bottle. Intense concentration, with an absolutely alluring with quite some meat and olive on the palate. I'm just so surprised at the tannins on this bottle.

Incredibly young for a 10year old wine. Lovely fruit that has only just started to leave it's primary stage. Tannins are quite smooth but still present. Will keep for many years.

A weekend in East Sussex (UK): On it's way down IMHO - and not nearly as good as I remember it from 10 years ago at Per Se in NYC. Today it is showing only nicely with some aging sweetness, some sous bois and a decent balance, but lacking the Cornas-wow - and ending very dry indeed. Drink up. PB brought this.

Very high acidity. Slight notes of green which have turned into good spicyness. More tertiary then fruit forward at this stage.

A stunningly good old-school Cornas, the Robert Michel Cuvée des Coteaux excels in 1999, bursting from the glass with a rich bouquet of black fruit, tar, black olive and subtle saddle leather. A cuvée based on old vines in Les Chaillots, this is still a young wine, but the tannins have melted away nicely and it has reached a nice stage of early-maturity, with expressive aromatics and a juicy, elegantly expansive and full-bodied palate impression, with nicely fresh acidity. Why Robert Michel's wines languish in comparative obscurity is beyond me: they are stylistically a bit less 'Burgundian' than the quintessentially refined Cornas from the late Noel Verset, but they can be every bit as good in their somewhat more hearty style.

Intriguing nose of cracked Szechuan peppercorn. Immediately soft, suave, feminine palate impression, reminds me of Juge, turning emery board bumpy on the midpalate. Flavors of olive brine, more peppercorn, pork cracklings, reminding me of Verset. Unfortunately marred by significant metallic brett on the finish. Love this style of Cornas and would buy a few more if not for the brett.

The 2006 Robert Michel La Geynale is a marvelous old-school Cornas that is still a good decade away from its drinking window. The wine is still a saturated ruby-black, opening up in the decanter to deliver a classical bouquet of black raspberry, black olive, grilled meats, shoe polish and hot stones. On the palate the wine is very full-bodied, boasting immense volume and extract, and with an ample endowment of refined tannins and a rock solid core and bright acids. The gloriously mineral finish is pure Cornas! I double decanted this wine twice, and followed it over two days, and it only improved. Subsequent bottles have only increased by admiration for this wine. Terrific stuff.

13% abv. Drank blind. Did not guess n.rhone nor syrah. Nose was not giving much at the outset, eventually became perfumed, with a slight greenness. No bacon, no olive, no garrigue… more elegant perhaps but doesn't seem to have as much character as some other n.rhones.

Visually deep and dark, it has a high-definition nose with all the text-book markers, such as granite dust, ground peppers, tar, blackberries and violets. On the palate it's definitely muscular - especially after the pair of lighter reds - yet very elegant, with big black-fruit flavours, excellent freshness and slightly drying, dusty tannins. The peppery, spicy mineral grip lasts for a substantial time and almost leaves us breathless. Ready to drink, yet should keep and develop for several years. Not a wine you'd forget any time soon.

Serious old school Cornas, taut and firm and really needing another 5-10 years. Very restrained nose, even more so on the palate, though partly this was the small, less than desirable glasses. Lots of inward floral and herbal and gamy notes.
