4/6/2024 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 91 pointsRetail $35. Heavy Bottle (694g; 1lb 8.4oz). I bought four bottles of this wine for my father-in-law way back in 2013 when he lived in the Bay Area (kind of) and we lived in Philly. I purchased them from WTSO for about $20 and had them shipped to his house. Or so I thought; they ended up on our stoop in Philly. We popped a couple of the bottles while still on the East Coast and they were fine, but not much more. This bottle? Pretty fantastic: bright, fresh red fruit despite its age, lovely zing to balance the fruit, and even a touch of verve. This is really quite nice. My father-in-law lives right behind us now here in Houston. I don't think I will mention to him that we still have another bottle, I might just have to keep it for myself. |

7/22/2013 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 92 pointsRetail $50. This wine followed the 2006 Loring Clos Pepe and it was in no way a let down. Nice cherry fruit and a little bit of spice, the wine was even a bit fruitier than the Loring. Nice tartness with a wonderful finish. Outstanding. 91-93 Points. |

2/11/2024 - Neecies Likes this wine: 90 pointsOpened for a glass each on Monday, then finished on Saturday during which time it not only held up it evolved. This Anderson Valley pinot has stamina. Dark cherry fruit, mushrooms and loamy backnotes on the nose and palate with soft tannic backbone. No rush. |

12/26/2023 - Neecies Likes this wine: NRBig improvements since our last bottle almost a year ago. Nicely concentrated dark fruit, loamy forest floor, Asian spice, acidity and structure. Should reward further cellaring over the next 3-5 years. |

1/29/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 94 pointsOur favorite at a broad tasting of Roessler Pinot Noirs around 2007, that is a convincing case how ocean and fog cooled areas in California are superb for Pinot Noir. Densely colored and flavored. Comes into the mouth with the tannin and acidity more characteristic of French Red Burgundy. Black cherry and blackberry fruit. The swallow begins with a spike of bright acidity, followed by tannin with a rounded edge that leaves the mouth with a juicy rather than astringent finish. Will be even better in the next 5 years. |

10/20/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsOpaque with an inch pour. Very generous in the mouth, with a smooth texture, bright acidity, well integrated taste, and richly fruity flavors of black plum, black raspberry, and blackberry. Good concentration, quite delicious, and a long aftertaste where fruit, acid, and tannin all flow out together. Fine example of how blending across vineyards can make high quality and affordable Pinot Noirs, here from the Sonoma Coast in California. Significantly better than the bottles I opened years earlier. |

10/17/2017 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsNow a great pop and pour wine completely enjoyable poured from the just opened bottle. "La Brisa" sounds like a single vineyard wine but actually is a brand name for a blend across Sonoma Coast vineyards. Often called an elegant Pinot, but actually is a dark, dense, and concentrated Pinot Noir. Superb texture, deliciously fruity, beautifully integrated, and intensely fruity. Bought the last 3 bottles the store had, but would have rightly taken any amount more they had to sell. |

2/25/2017 - Mossrose wrote: 95 pointsA great example of how drinking aged wines trumps drinking them young. This 8 year old wine not only has the bright fruit of the young ones, but also pours straight out of the opened bottle delicious, seamless, caressing, and concentrated, with rounded acidity and tannin. Very dark red in color, just short of black, but rich, deep, and intensely flavored, with vivid fruit, refreshing acidity, and structuring tannin. Overall, a magnificent expression of how the Clos Pepe Vineyard makes dark, powerful, and utterly tasty Pinot Noir. |

5/9/2017 - Mossrose wrote: 94 pointsThe second bottle I have had of this wine, which is impressively dark, deep, fruity, well structured by acidity and tannin, rich, and enjoyable. The only thing less than stellar is that the texture, while neither astringent nor mouth stripping, does not achieve being lush and caressing. More age might get there, but I gladly bought every bottle a store had of this and still wish I could have gotten more. |

12/11/2018 - Mossrose wrote: 95 pointsThis 2009 is one of the best bottlings made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Clos Pepe Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills. Opaque black, although the outer edge shows its age of 8 with a lighter outer ring. Intensely flavorful with excellent concentration, powerful tannin, high acidity, and delicious fruits of black cherry, pomegranate, and blackberry. A rounded edge on the tannin is the first sign of a coming lusher texture. |

2/21/2019 - Mossrose wrote: 96 pointsAt 10 years old, incredibly and completely good. The best wish possible for a wine that started well when released - to keep on getting better every year later. Aromatically exciting, delicious in the mouth, great clarity of flavors, seamless, and rich, with a home run finish. Not the slightest sign of any deterioration. My mouth waters with anticipation every time I pop a cork of this wine. |
