Drank decanted at Mourad with duck basteeyah and lamb. Fruit flavors definitely play second fiddle here to the savory elements. Chalk/slate with general earthiness at first, giving way to more specific mushroom and forest floor aromas. Background of raspberries and other red fruits. Nicely made, though tannins not integrated yet. Would be nice to taste in a few years.

- Ruby color with medium forming legs. It's in total harmony with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a long finish.

World of Pinot Noir Grand Tasting (Bacara - Goleta CA): Tasting, brief note. Big and fat red and black berry on nose and palate. Almost entirely fruit driven, giving a slightly one dimensional character.

World of Pinot Noir Grand Tasting (Bacara - Goleta CA): Tasting, brief note. Lots of perfume and spice (lots of whole cluster?) followed by lush fruit that comes across as easy and forward, but finishes with some elongating structure. Certainly good, probably better in a year or three. My favorite of the four wines from Sandhi tasted.

Fig, cherry. Nice tart acidity. Definitely not your typical California Pinot. Very enjoyable

Medium ruby in color, this wine reveals black raspberry, red currant and cola notes on the nose. The mouth feel is soft, medium-bodied with added elements of black fruit tartness and menthol. The finish is medium with silky acidity and dried herbs.

Purchased for $30US, this is a well made, complex and enjoyable offering. The 13.1% abv was barely noticeable. This was my first IPOB wine and it left a distinct, pleasant impression with me.

So picked this up to compare to the WB thread about IPOB. I reallize I hate the cola/sassafras notes. These come up on the nose. The aromas waft coca cola at me. I never grew up on this stuff so I hate when wine does this. Really sucks. It is subtle and not in your face like others but there it is. On taste the cola notes come through in a balanced way with a long finish. A bit extracted but way too cola for me. I want cherry or plum at least but no I get cola. I hate this. The wine is nice balanced, but coca cola is not what I want in my wine. At least it is not Kanzler which is just fountain syrup. Makes me want to give up on US Pinot.

BTW I don't know where people get cherries on this wine. What cherries are they tasting - from the cola tree? Really not accurate.

You need to re-calibrate your nose for the subtle aromas of acacia, lemon zest, and a hint of flint or minerality. It is more on the light and subtle side. On taste, some nice lemon and minerality. Not sure about the acidity and feel on the palate - a bit light. I would have liked a bit more acid to bring out the flavours. Nice wine but for the price point it is similar to some inexpensive chablis. It is more in that ballpark of light but interesting Petit Chablis or Chablis. Good minerality but with a light touch.

The wine was allowed to breath and warm up in the glasses.
It takes a long time to wake up - over an hour.
Well-made. Somewhat steely.

This is a 12.8% abv Chardonnay from California!
Elegant and light on it's feet, with just a hint of well-intentioned oak that overlies a core of citrus and orchard fruits, with a chalk and mineral spine that is deftly interwoven. Energetic acidity, supporting a long-ish finish that is refreshing and habit-forming.
A very good quality wine, albeit atypical for Chardonnay from California. Not quite Chablis-esque, perhaps more like Macon. Utterly delicious, quite special, drink now through 2017+...sooner than later for me.

Pear, lemon, flowers, some sea breeze on the nose. Palate offers up lemon, sweet florals, and a touch of umami/salinity. Light-medium body with a slightly creamy feel but a terrific acidic cut to keep it crisp and fresh. Pretty outstanding for a "generic" SBC bottling.

Expressive nose at this point with tart red fruits and definite oak/spice to complement. PNP this has very nice fruit and acid balance. Quite enjoyable. Will save 1/2 for day 2 to see if this is worth saving longer for the next bottle....

Day 2 has the same nose, a little less acidity and a little more tannin on the finish....not sure what to make of that other than I liked day 1 more than day 2. I say drink now.

Served slightly chilled and decanted a bit more than 30 minutes. Dark color for a pinot. Nose: Dark cherries, some dust. Almost effervescent on the tongue, cherry, cola, spice. Medium-high acid. An interesting CA pinot; different, give it a try. Perhaps a bit monotonous. Could benefit from more time in the bottle?

Discreet at first but opens up nicely after an hour+. Nose of blackberry, blueberry & violets / flowers w some earthiness. Nice acidity and what it lacks in focus, it makes up for in a round & pleasant mouthfeel. Medium finish and although it doesn't blow me away, very pleasant and should hold onto last bottle for a year or more to see how it evolves.
