Light purple color. Cherry and spice. Smooth on pop n pour. Elegant after being open for 60 minutes. No pinot noir bitterness. Drank this with cousins Don and Kassie. This was a BerserkerDay special.

Wow Ed! This one continues to deliver. We had this one side by side with a Williams Selyem Sonoma Coast from the same year and the Sandler Bien Nacido was the clear favorite among our guests. Terrific California Pinot!

Pronounced tomato skin, with a bit of spice, earth, and red fruit on the nose, with cherry and spice on the palate with enough tannin and acidity to keep it from being fat. I was surprised to note that alcohol is listed at 14.6%, as there was neither heat nor the over ripeness that can be common with higher alcohol PInot Noir. A nice wine.

cant get into the sugar. It's zippy Red fruit, but kind of over ripe at the same time. Not sure about this. Didn't like it as much as the last bottle.

A bit primary still with oak protruding a bit more than my liking, but mostly in balance... certainly has a delicious factor with very pure fruit, but probably benefits from a little time to integrate the oak.

Very informal, but this really needed a decant. Definitely progressed through the nigh and the next day, it was a bit more elegant than other offerings and was delicious. Elegant cranberry, earth, strawberry and rhubarb.

Preface: Pulled the cork at 8 AM. Poured a small glass at 10 AM. Splash decant at 1:30 PM.

Nose: 10 AM-Initially very tight and reluctant. Only primary red/blue fruit showing.1 PM-Still very, very tight. 7 PM-Pretty much the same but with slightly more pronounced notes of olive, herbs and meat alongside the fruit. Maybe I'm a little crazy but I swear I can smell some small hints of lavender.

Palate: 1 PM-Still very closed. There is a bright, refreshing acidity and fine tannins. 7 PM- Starting to get some earth along side the fruit, which is starting to darken up now. The acidity is still quite strong with leathery yet fine tannins.

Finish: 1 PM-The most important note here is on the very backend I can catch a faint note of the cool climate influences.  7 PM- As with before, this is really where your cooler climate influence to start to show up. Strong notes of herbs and dirt with a dried raspberry / cranberry character thanks to the astringency.

Thoughts: Slain before its time. The wine is very reluctant and quite closed. With extended air it starts to come out of its shell and show its true character. I agree with the winemaker in that this wine needs cellar time to come around and fully integrate.  Regardless, it still does drink fairly well with a lot of air. If you want to drink one now, I'd say give it a 12 to 24 hour decant beforehand. No rating due to youth.

Ed Kurtzman Comes To Dinner (2015) (Luiciana's In Dana Point): I still have a bottle of this in my cellar so I was pleased to have Ed feature one from his library for the dinner. When I opened this wine earlier in the day, and I removed some of the light build around the very top of the bottle, it was like spooning out olive tapenade. One of those unique wine experiences that I will remember forever. Just crazy good. I know Ed made this with entirely whole cluster and that aspect is on display. Olive, cooked meat, dark fruit, pepper and bbq/sauce. Savory and not dried out or green. This remains very unique and terrific 10 years out and no sign of fade.

Whereas the 11 is juicier, this is more fruit centric and I got what I thought was a little heat in the aromatic. From my experience, this is what you won't find on the 11 vintage, and I continue to take a minority opinion, putting the 11 vintage ahead of 12. There is good acidity in this 12, floral and like the 12, more red fruit centric. Just a bit bigger than the 11, which I found to me the winner of the flight, with this 12 coming in second.

Once again, when I sit down in any setting, and often times the varietal doesn't matter in this instance, I always land on the 11 as being a superior vintage. I know people put it down, but I continue to find great wines coming out of this year. Here with Ed's 11, it has a juicy feel, funk and red raspberry (not dark raspberry like the 10). Solid acidity too. With air, this picks up a floral quality and everything knitted up well as we rolled into the dinner. Terrific.

Ed Kurtzman Comes To Dinner (2015) (Luiciana's In Dana Point): We tasted the 10-12 wines in the same flight, so we could get some contrast. Of the three, I put the 10 in third place. It does have red apple skin, dark raspberry, zingy acidity and light root beer. The reason I put the wine in third place is that it has a candied quality in the finish. The 12 was better and the 11, that wine is a gem, FWIW.

The deep core of fruit and unfiltered texture, traits that I've found with all Sandlers that I've tasted thus far, are here with this Grenache as well. Overall, I found it good but pretty unremarkable at this young stage. It's pretty well balanced and not overripe with good flavors and look for this to develop for a few more years. This was tasted after the very good Tercero 2010 Watch Hill Grenache.

Others have written good notes on this, with which I agree. Delicious rasberry flavors and spices, minerals, forest floor. Only thing slightly out of balance for me is it feels hot - even still on night two. Label says 14.6% alcohol, but it drinks as if a little more than that, on both the nose and palate. Minor complaint, still a lovely Sandler pinot.

Tasted this over 3 days (vacuvin'd and stored in the fridge overnight). I loved the focused core of fruit on this - brambly, and fruity, but no sweetness at all. Good structure and balancing acidity. That said, an extremely bitter note on the finish seemed to show up as the wine got more air -- on the second day of this being opened, it got to the point of being intolerable. My wife corroborated this. Tried again the next day and the bitter note on the finish was almost completely gone and this turned into a fantastic drink. Interesting evolution of this bottle.

Medium ruby color. Big on the nose with cherry and raspberry and asian spice along with a hint of vanilla and oak. Sweet red fruit flavors on the palate mixed with some toasty oak flavors and chocolate covered cherries on the back end. Smooth but a touch big on the mouthfeel with a warm finish. This was the least food friendly of the Sandler pinots I have had which worked out in this case since I drank it after dinner. Tasty but a bit simple.
