Pretty, red fruit, dusty, dried herbs. Showing little sign of ageing, still decent grip.

This never quite got there for me. Lots of sweet cherry and spice, but I agree that is seemed a bit disjointed.

Decanted. Intense minerality, dark fruits and some stem/herbaceous notes on the nose. The nose is perceptible from a distance. Improved as it sat in the decanter. Great depth on the palate. Medium+ acidity, more stony notes, and cherry pits on the palate. A very clean tannic finish that leans slightly bitter. Fantastic with seared trout.

The expression of the Scott Paul La Paulée Pinot Noir is very much in line with what I would expect from the 2012 vintage in the Willamette Valley. A year with textbook growing conditions has endowed this Pinot with suitably lush red-fruit notes—black cherries and crushed raspberries are underpinned by notes of iron, forest floor, decomposing leaves, and a whisp of smoke. The impression of lushness carries over on the palate and is lifted by moderate acidity and an enduring, lightly spicy finish. Sample

Drinking beautifully right now. Red fruits, herbs, and subtle earth on the nose, followed by a lacy, delicate mouthfeel with vibrant acidity giving it a refreshing snap. Not much tannin structure evident in this, but I'm sure it will hold at this level for some time to come. Nice bottle.

Gave this time in a wide-bottom decanter. It took about 30 minutes to really open up. Drinking well now. Looked exceedingly thin on the pour: very pale translucent red. A touch of stems, tarragon and sour cherry on the nose. On the palate, this is more dense than it looks. Medium- bodied with great acidity. A touch of pith and lots of sour cherry and cranberry...a bit of menthol. The slightest hint of tannin on the finish. This is drinking well now.

Dinner with Wine Doc (BellyQ, Chicago): Thanks to smartlysauced for sharing this bottle. Cherry and baked rhubarb notes with clay and earth overtones. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced, with flavors of red plum, cherry and just a hint of rhubarb here as well, with spice and earth tones in the background.

A very nice showing for this wine. Decanted and drank well. Seems to have picked up some weight. A touch of stems and sour cherry on the nose, and excellent sour cherry and strawberry rhubarb on the palate. Good acidity with a nice finish.

Feminine, medium body, elegant. Bursting with cherries, blue fruits. Earthy, forest floor, meaty. Complex, layered. Well structured, medium tannins.

Nose has bright red fruits, white pepper and asian spices. Palate had the same with a distinct minerality that gave the wine a crystalline purity. Loved it.

Followed over two days. A mix of Maresh, Ribbon Ridge, & Momtazi. A wine predicated on power & depth. A good balance of fruit & acid, tannins really aren't apparent until the second day. The initial layer of red fruit was on the concentrated side & it was a bit difficult to pick up other details & nuance.

This is definitely a new world style Pinot made from excellent fruit sources & crafted in a classy polished manner. I'm a fan of the tannic framework on 2008 Oregon wine & would like to have found more of that here. It was a great match to a roast chicken & dal. The earthy & spicy quality of the dal brought some of that character forward in the wine and was when I enjoyed this most.

PnP the first night. This had dark cherry and good acidity, but not much else. The last glass the second night had much more elegance, with subtle fruit and some spice and earth. Decanting would seem worth trying next time.

Double decanted and drank over 2 days. Very nice aromatics, running the spectrum from some cool green herbaceous notes, through great minerality to some taut red fruits. Fantastic acidity on the palate, showing great energy, lots of cranberries and sour cherries, followed by some iron-ore notes. A touch of structure present with a swish and a bit of tanginess and heat on the very vibrant finish. I think I liked this better at the D122 from the same producer at this stage.

Very primary to me on the aromas and palate. Finish was a bit disjointed but the parts are here. Fruit was delicious. Structure is there just has a onesy on.

When will these 08s be ready?

My advice? Let this one hide for another 3-5.

Nice bouquet out of the decanter with red berries and a hint of apple. We decanted the wine for an hour prior to dinner. The pinot is lighter than most but has nice medium body with balanced level of acid that rocked with smoked salmon. The wine has has nice sour cherry and raspberry flavors.

Cellar time has greatly improved this wine. Still a medium ruby, but the primary griotte cherry aromas now are overlaid with spice cake, leather, vanilla. Sweet but complex in the mouth, and the finish has become much longer too. Clearly was in a sullen phase last time I tried it. Could it improve even more with a few years additional time?
