Stood upright for about a week, popped and poured. Dark purple-ruby hue. Seriously pronounced aromatics...like a continually evolving mélange of ripe raspberry, Kalamata olive, menthol, fresh herbs, incense, subtle spices (clove??) and a note of clay-laden minerals. So full of freshness and underlying tension. Medium to medium-plus body. Fresh black raspberry, blackberry, kirsch and most any other dark berry forms the immediate flavor impression. Let this sit and linger a bit longer and you'll also find savory herbaceous flavors which are complimented by notes of dark chocolate and a distinct impression of saline minerals. Tannins show a fine chalkiness on the lengthy, almost endless close. Wonderful now, will age effortlessly for at least another 5+ years.
This is about as profound an example of moderately aged CA Syrah that one can hope to find.

Popped and poured, consumed over 4 hours. Nose: Very expressiveness showing smoked black berries, tar, and violets. Palate: Medium-full bodied, sweet dark fruit attack with black pepper, great mid-palate persistence, flavors build in intensity thru the back-end where a nice spice driven characteristic just adds more lift. Finish: Follows the explosive palate experience with a lengthy finish - 60+ seconds - dominated by spicy lightly smoked dark fruit. Seems to be drinking at it's peak right now.

Consumed over 4 hours. Nose: Medium expressiveness, pear, green apple, and lightly toasted buttered bread. Palate: Medium bodied, creamy mouth-feel, sweet citrus and marzipan attack, good acidic balance, nice mid-palate persistence, fades just a little through the back-end but there is still enough goodness left to drive a medium length finish dominated by canned pears and a hint of black licorice.

Nose: The nose has a rich dark red fruit core with dark red cherries, licorice, blueberries, blackberries, and dark spices.

Taste: Full bodied with silky tannins and medium acidity. The feel is plush and polished with blackberries, blueberries, dark red cherries, and some licorice.

Overall: This is definitely on the forward side, but it's plush and has a real yum factor. It's drinking extremely well right now and feels like it's in the zone.

super dusty, as if the glasses had been sitting in cardboard for a decade. but not in a TCA way. some dark fruit emerged, the tannins had softened out a bit. still, this never evolved into anything special.

Good but not great.
A slight green olive note remains consistent through the entire experience (nose to finish, over 2 hours). Color has faded somewhat.
Fruit is now soft, still dark and becomes more apparent after the first hour. Tannins are fine grained and soft. Lacks structure and muscle of other Shane Syrahs.
Look to Valenti and Jemrose for better examples.

Very light yellow-green, almost clear. Delicious bouquet of fresh lemongrass. Lemongrass notes with strong minerality and an underlying herbal funk that grows to dominate the finish. Very nice.

Drank this one over two nights. Inky purple in the glass. Big nose leads with stem notes and follows with black fruit, asphalt, violets, olive, cracked pepper and spice. Palate has full bodied, chewy black fruit. More stems bring an exotic herb and spice note to the palate. Concentrated but not rich or heavy. Good balance. Flavors definitely leave the cool climate imprint. Only complaint is the short-ish finish.

On the garnet-side of purple; good body and structure; took quite awhile to open but showed dark fruit, spice and tobacco. Similar on the palate with some roasted meats. A little hard on the finish/aftertaste. Still needs more time.

New World Blind Tasting Group $25+ (Bin 75): Black core with thin bright reddish violet rim; intense nose, black pepper, black olive, brine, hints at vanilla; dense mouthfeel, rich, vanilla, plum skin, wild berry; needs more time and/or air; very good; nailed it.

Felt somewhat closed and mute on the first day, but once it opened up it was a clear winner. Starting to show off some really interesting spice undertones, and some serious dark fruit backbone. Very nice long finish as well. It's aging nicely and is a solid winner from this vintage.

Extracted black core with violet rim; tar, mint, blackberry, violets, ink, dark berry, sauvage yet a plushness to nose, completely Syrah, deep and sexy; some tannin on palate; great domestic Syrah, this will probably improve with more bottle age; very good.

Saturday Night Double Blind, $40+ (Bin 75): Intensely black with tiny bright violet rim; only partially open on the nose, violets, plum, dark berry, tar; fairly soft; very drinkable but not expressive at this stage; check back in 3+ years.

Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness. kirsch, black raspberry, dust, pine needles, and florals - lilacs. Palate: Medium-full bodied, great balance, creamy mouth feel - milk chocolate like, blue fruit attack, spicy mid-palate presence, solid mid-palate density, precise and focused from front to back. Finish: Medium-plus length dominated by spicy dark fruit and milk chocolate. My second of 2 bottles and this is absolutely singing this evening noticeably more integrated than previous bottle which seemed a little disjointed in the back-end.

Blind Dinner at Browntrout (Browntrout - Chicago, IL): Served blind. Definitely had the signature of a powerful new world syrah. Lots of power and density on the nose and palate, but it's just hard for me to like without acidity. This didn't have much, and therefore, I found it a bit cloying.

Blind Dinner at Browntrout (Chicago, IL): Served blind. Slightly more restrained than the Bedrock I had beside it. But that's not saying much. This, too, screams young new world syrah. Overripe, big, alcoholic, and oaky. No thanks.

Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, saddle leather, brambles, olives, ocean air, and dark fruit - black berry and black raspberry - more Rhone like than California. Palate: Medium-full bodied, black pepper and dark fruit attack, noticeable acid driven mid-palate lift, back-end turns a bit thin and rustic showing black olive, tobacco, and hints of iodine - though not in a bad way. Finish: Medium plus length dominated by stems, spice and dark fruit.

Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, black cherry, raspberry, bacon fat, with hints of brambles and mint - just keeps giving and giving as it presents something different with every sniff. Palate: Medium bodied, great mouth-feel, spicy dark red fruit attack, nice mid-palate acidic balance, luscious undertones of mint and spice, everything is in harmony. An exceptional wine right now that will likely just get better over the next 2 - 4 years.

Still a baby and just flat out delicious. Frankly, for the area this comes from this is a Monster.
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blueberry, cherry, plum, forest floor, cedar and lead pencil. It tastes like blackberry, blueberry, cherry, mineral, forest floor, espresso, light toast and black pepper. The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity.
