2012 Red Burgs and a nice 04 (My basement (so we could watch the Cavs East. Conf. Championship): I liked this more than the group who had it last. Purple/ruby in color. The nose is canned cherries. On the palate, black cherries with some depth and complexity. Many complained about the over use of sulfur which I seem to be much less sensitive to than most. Perhaps that's why I liked it more.

Drinking nicely right now. Light red in color. Delicate red fruits on the nose. Elegant on the palate.

Fine mahogany red. Loads of dark fruits, earth and fungus. Some Asian spices. Cured meats. Great acidity. Fine though not rich. Complexity and countryside. Good.

Med to deep ruby, red fruit nose, alcohol and some spice. Sharp acid on palate, lack conc, more oak surfaced, tannin quite soft, more like a 1er cru but given the vintage, this is so much you can hope for?

From 375, drinking very nicely now with just a few minutes out of the bottle. Lovely fruit, good balance, weight and force. Not a ton of complexity. Could continue to develop, but it's a 2007, so for this format, I say 'carpe diem.'

Light ruby with tawny rim. Like soil encrusted black cherries on the nose. Medium weight, great sap. Medicinal quality to the fruit, some anise, and serious but unobtrusive tannins. No Savigny brambliness in this bottle, but the quality and value here speak to why top notch Savigny is highly sought after as a bargain Burgundy. After my disastrous experience with the older, dried out Bize wines at La Paulee, this bottle made me think that this domain really benefits from the flesh that a riper vintage provides.

Very green and peppery - celery seed. But the fruit is surprisingly ripe, mixed red and dark. Light bodied, powdery tannin. Merely OK.

Served at upscale Lexington Pizza Parlour with Wine dinner alongside 3 others. overall, vg but could have used more breathing.
wines were in order
2013 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast (served cool. As it warmed, it became balanced. Slightly sweet, full, silky. Good potential),
2007 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses (Decanted at table, let breath for ~20 minutes. Bright, fresh, good acids, some earthiness and mushroom, Lightest weight of the bunch. Should have decanted 1-2+ hours earlier as it showed better with time. I judged most complex, but maybe not the best at the table),
2010 Presqu'ile Pinot Noir (lot going on here. Bright, earthy spice. Nice finish. Best drinking at table.),
2012 Brick House Pinot Noir Evelyn's (May have been the lushest, and I think was the most shortchanged without aeration. Dark cherries, plum)

Polished but tart cherry with a bit of licorice and game, but it's elegant for a Savigny and precise. Just enough firmness and reticence that a bit of time would do it wonders. NR

The words that keep coming to mind are bright and light. Some earth and game. But it's all very pretty and precise with a medium finish. Just enough roundness with the acid to provide tension, but this is eminently drinkable now.

A crisp light weight cocktail wine for those wanting something cool, toned red fruit and a bit of bramble. Not terribly complex but solid entry level.

Chalky and lively mostly mineral saltiness to go with a floral nose. Missing a bit of fruit at the moment its a bit austere with. For a 2012 there is minimal plumpness and it's very pure. Probably a short term hold would do wonders for this otherwise lively wine.

Truly excellent for a Bourgone. Lemon, hinting toward a baked pear with mineral drive and a slight hint of char on the finish. Strikes a pose between gregarious and elegant. Good length and medium round body with solid but not too firm acidity provides a good textural structure for this lively wine. An early drinker and punches way above its class.

Properly cellared. Full of grace and power and many many more years.
I've sent an email to Becky Wasserman Selections. We will see.
But this is incredibly disappointing. How as a consumer do you have faith?

2012 Simon Bize Wines (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Medium red. Also attractive cherry fruit, here mixed with some game and anise. Medium weight, clean and supple, good acidity and round tannins. This lacks the brambly bite of classic young Savigny but is very good. Another surprise given my mind's eye view of Bize wines.

2012 Simon Bize Wines (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Light red. Funny-this has more of the Savigny brambliness than the 2 actual Savignys that were poured. Crisp, light, tart. Less impressive to me than the white Bourgogne was.

Up against one premier cru and one grand cru this wine was the surprise of the night. Soft and elegant nose, the quality shone through with berry on the pallet. This wine opened up in the glass and has a lot of time left 10+ years before it's really singing. Be patient.
