Coravin glass. Vanilla, charred wood on the nose; wood weighs on the palate, adding a silkiness to the dark fruit, Slight alcohol, brambles. Nice expression of the varietal. Will retry with more air time.

Deep purple. Hot, austere fruit bouquet. At first taste after opening bottle, thought it another over-extracted, high alcohol California wine. After an hour, it turned into a beauty with concentrated dark fruit, good mouth-feel and some complexity. Alcohol did not get in the way.

Richly fruited with strawberry and raspberry jam fruit, nice earth and herbal notes. Moderate acidity and fine tannin. A solid bigger Merlot but I think this was probably better in its youth with more baby fat and exuberance.

Hugely tannic right out of the bottle. Decanted and it simmered down over the next hr. Chocolate, spice, really dark fruits. Interesting. Lacked the nose I thought would accompany the mouthfeel. Still quite enjoyable.

Same as previous notes - dark fruit with hints of fresh berries, palate is alive with black berry, cedar and chocolate. A long finish

Slow o'd for an hour, this seems to be at peak right now. Plush, lots of fruit, well-integrated tannins. It is definitely new world and fruit forward, yet it has a nice balance.

This is a very nice Cab. Seems almost port like with sweetness on the palate and sweet tannins. I think it needs more time.

This big cab is peaking right now after a bit of a funky stage. Rich, sweet black fruit with hints of mocha and earthiness. Hedonistically styled, but with plenty of grit and nuance.

This is a great showing for the vintage, however it was a bit overextracted for me. A big Merlot, but lacks great balance and should be consumed in the next 2-3 years.

4 hour decant. Purple black and viscous. Cassis, black fruit, mint, cinnamon, dark chocolate, and lead pencil. Smooth integrated tannins. Drinking really well.

suffered next to Turley Hayne PS of same vintage.

SBR lacked length, structure and character. Palate was one dimensional, little to no texture or secondary flavors. Not bad just ordinary.

Deep big Foley fruit and silky tannin. This was another great SBR with Plum, blackberry, coffee and smoke notes. Large scaled high alc beast. Fun to drink but defiantly a hedonists wine.

See TOMLEE 8-19-13 notes. Massive, cassis licorice, and almost liqueur like. 375ml...would not wait much longer. I do enjoy this style!

Tasted last night and did not take notes. Lots of ripe fruit and structure left. Tannins are still quite present and while not chewy they do leave a drying sensation on the palate. This wine has at least another 5 years left before it thinks about declining at all, possibly longer.

Outstanding wine, we decanted through a vinturi and let sit for an hour and a half while we drank a bottle of Seasmoke Pinot Noir. Dark fruit on the nose, the palate was blueberry, blackberry, cigar box with a touch of toffee. Unlike 10 months ago when I last drank a bottle this time the long finish had hints of fig.

Popped and poured...decant would have helped with some sediment, but still very tasty...pitch black...juicy plums and blueberries with a long finish.

Interestingly enough, my note on this wine is pretty similar to my note in 2009. It's a big ripe wine, don't get me wrong, but it's integrated. There's a sweetness to it and a touch of vanilla from the oak but it isn't out of balance. Just really forward giving gobs of dark fruit with a big dense ripe structure. The tannins have resolved and have softened. I think it's in a pretty good place right now and it drank pretty similar for a couple of hours.

The wine does a really good job of straddling the line of being too high octane but it reins itself in with enough acidity to keep it bright and not goopy.

Bright blueberry and violets upon opening, along with creosote; light in weight with a watered-down mouthfeel that makes this very easy to drink in spite of its brief finish. Flavor is generally sweet blue fruit, somewhat extracted as noted in other notes. Still don't believe this will have great longevity, but Bob did a great job producing a solid wine from an off year.
