As in my previous note from 2013 this is a wonderful Port ! Perhaps somewhat more closed on this occasion but still with that cassis, lavender and dark chocolate character on both the nose and palate. Intense fruit and structure on the palate with fine but evident tannin backbone. Fine spirit finish. Very young but losing some of the primary lusciousness that was previously present.

This review is for the 2014 bottling. This is a very enjoyable tawny port with a elegant nutty flavor. I can see why WS rated this so highly. Will buy again soon.

Hazy, brick tawny in color, this Port showed raisin, dried red fruits and allspice on the nose. The mouth feel brought a semi-sweet dried black fruits tone along with just enough heat from the alcohol to keep everything in moderation. The finish had length, with the heat fading away and the raisin notes coming back.

Purchased for $22US/750ML. this is an excellent example of 10 year Tawny. It brought back found memories of my visit to T-F during my stay in Villa Nova de Gaia, Portugal in 2002.

Bottled in 2014.

Imported by Kobrand Corporation, Purchase, NY.

Year 3 - Super Tasting 1 of 5 - Dave does Birth Year Wines: This was flat-out killer Vintage Port. The nose is complex, classy andquite open after a 5-6 hour decant: cinnamon, plum, walnuts, rye bread, dark cherry, almond, marzipan, nutmeg, walnut, spice cake, figs, lacquered oak and sweet mahogany. The finish is monumentally long (5 minutes +) replaying the dark stone fruit, sweet old wood, marzipan and baking spice. Absolutely stunning.

Year 3: Super Tastings Round 1 of 5; Dave Does Birth Year Wines (Dave's House): Decanted approximately 5 hours in advance. Followed approximately 1 hour in the glass. On the nose, this is a touch spirity, but has a lovely nose of pure cherry, dark fruit, baking spice, earth, brown sugar, dried fig and toasted nuts. On the palate, this really shines, showing impeccable balance. There is a real elegance to this Port, and tremendous depth of flavour on the palate. Finish is quite long and lingers in the mouth for ages. I could drink this and eat Stilton for hours.

Not going to spend a lot of time describing this - this is one of my go-to daily evening drinkers. Cost isn't significant and it provides a rewarding night cap. Not as smooth, deep, or complex as the 30 and 40, but the cost/benefit is probably better.

This was gorgeous...and by far the best 1977 port I have ever had.
Nose was a kaleidoscope of flowers, spice, dark rich fruit, nuts, minerals, figs, spice cake.
Palate was viscous but at the same time very light and elegant....such precision, focus and integration. Myriads of different dark and red fruits mix with a bouquet of flowers and spicy nutty notes.
Finish is long, layered and lush. WOW. Pretty.

As mentioned in my post-sick and drinking thread, now that I am on the mend it was time for an emergency decant and Port consumption to make up for lost time. Only decanted 2 hours, so take this one with a grain of salt to some extent. I immediately noticed how light the tannins were on this and the fruit, black currants, were very tasty but monolithic and it lacked complexity. There was some mint on the palate as well. A medium finish with some unbalanced spirit, in combination with the palate, was more reminiscent of an LBV than a SQVP. I have no idea if this is in a closed up phase at the moment, which is causing its simple showing, or not so I will reserve final judgement. Hence my score is a range and may or may not change in the future depending on where this goes with more cellar time. As you will see it's a bug departure for this bottle than previous ones I've had as well as others.

Decanted for two hours prior to consumption. Aromas of figs, walnuts, liquorice...a certain spirituous element. On the palate the wine is off dry with flavours of figs, coffee, walnut, liquorice...and there is the warming alcohol here as well. Still quite youthful and spiky for me.

Displayed an uncharacteristic harshness. Red fruit and kirsch dominate the palate. Another disappointing bottle. Signs of old seepage.

Huge fruit, impressively good, but young, young, young. The 2007, four years after its vintage date, was much different - young but still nearly perfect to drink. With this 2011, you just ache for it to get older.

Half a bottle, corked for two weeks - so the wine was in with a half bottle of air - came out quite good: enormous red berry and cherry presence, pleasurable to drink; if the air made it go "downhill" I think it was in the finish with some woody taste and harsh liquorice.

A very big wine, should be excellent many years from now.

Nice drinking from pop time to a few days later - sweet, gentle with a little heat and a decent finish - this isn't a "great" port, by any means, but at under 13 euros it's excellent value for money for an after dinner glass.

This is still an infant. A few hours after opening it felt a bit out of balance with notes of alcohol sticking out. Very good and intense on the palate though. The remaining 1/3 of the bottle was re-corked, and having spent a week in the fridge it had improved considerably. More complex on the nose and very balanced and long on the palate. Spicy, intense, fruity and long. Decant for a very long time or cellar for many more years.
