Paso Robles Red Rhone Blend more

Not decanted, consumed over 2+ hours. Viscous garnet red with a noticeable brown tinge. An unusual mix of ripe fruit, walnutty oxidized notes, and maybe a little hint of barrel. Decent acidity and a touch of heat. Sweetish on the palate, strongly putting me in mind of a red table wine mixed with a generous splash of tawny port.

Decanted 3+ hours, consumed over 2 hours with grilled steaks & balsamic gorgonzola baked brussels sprouts. Similar to the bottle from 12/25/2013, still a little porty and just a touch candied, but with oak more integrated and everything working together better than in any previous bottle we've opened. No rush on these.

Not decanted, consumed over ~1 hour after 30 minutes of aeration. A little volatile and showing a little heat at first, but this did settle a bit with time in the glass. After the initial attack, a full mid-palate with somewhat stewed/candied red fruit and spicy (not toasty) barrel notes. Intense, as is typical for Tolos, and could probably use more time to integrate as well as good decant.

Decant 2 hours. Color is a cloudy garnet with a shade of brick orange when poured. There is something intoxicating (in a good way) with the nose. Keep getting scent of nuts (pistachio) probably from the oak. Palate is full bodied and rich. Smooth texture like a silky brandy. Very different style of Zin and we enjoyed it. 5,14,15,6=90

Not decanted, aerated ~1 hour & consumed over ~1 hour. Still drinking in line with my note from 12/25/2013...rich and tasty, not too cab-like, but a pretty good bottle in the house style.

Not decanted, consumed over 1 1/2 hours. Viscous, slightly candied cherry liqueur notes with an overlay of toasted pecans and firm acidity. Rich through the midpalate, but in a way I don't personally find attractive (something akin to my dislike of big jammy CA pinot).

Not decanted, consumed over ~1 1/2 hours. The nose was intriguing on this, primarily showing preserved lemon and something just slightly nutty. Unfortunately, the palate seemed to fall flat in comparison, with very slight hints of pithy lemon peeking through a restrained oxidized profile which didn't have much of a mid-palate. I'm not sure if this is slightly flawed or just in a bad place or what, but it's too bad because the nose was pretty promising.

Decanted for several hours. 54% Sangiovese, 46% Zin blend. Nose has a unique fragrance of hazelnuts which I really like. Palate is full bodied with a smooth textture. Not hot at all considering 15.6%. Nicely integrated components. Red fruit, spice, firm lasting finish. Awesome wine. 5,13,16,6=90

Asini: bright, fruit from the zin; solid structure---paired with herb crusted ribeye roast--delicious

Great now, but can't wait to see what this is like in 2-3 years

Decanted 2+ hours, consumed a glass over 2 hours. It has been a long time since I've tasted a red table wine which has tasted sweeter/riper to me. Red cherry jam & super-ripe strawberries, prominent acidity and a bit of heat which took some time to blow off. Not for me.

Not decanted, 1 glass consumed over ~1/2 hour. A surprisingly translucent ruby red. Spirity on the nose and dense on the palate with high acidity that unfortunately accentuates the heat (15.2%). Concentrated cherry/strawberry fruit, some peppery spice, and not-yet-integrated barrel notes on the finish. Needs lots of air and probably some time in bottle as well.

Very different from the other wines opened this evening, appreciated by some more than others.

Decanted 3 hours, consumed over 2-3 hours. Garnet tinged with chocolate brown, this was very aromatic in a raisiny/porty way when the cork came out. After the decant, this had settled down nicely. Concentrated, slightly stewed cherry/dark berry fruit with foresty barrel notes and tangy acidity, maybe just slightly oxidized. A little heat, but not too prominent...the acid is more noticeable.

All in all, this was more enjoyable than the description may make it sound. One of the better Tolos we've opened in recent months, and I'm glad to have a couple more.

Decanted 2 1/2 hours, consumed over 1 hour. Pretty representative of the Tolo style - dense and fairly porty at first, with the harsher aspects diminishing somewhat over time. A little more brown to the color than expected, something like old pomegranate seeds. High acidity attacking the tongue up front, eventually revealing leathery, herbal berry notes with a bit of alcoholic warmth.

Hasn't budged much since my note from last August...lots of everything packed into a somewhat overwhelming package, with prominent acidity and heat too much in the forefront for my taste. Again, however, not bad in the context of the spicy baby back ribs we had for dinner.

Following a dazzling Tolo Chard, this was another superstar bottle. It has shed all of the forward primary fruit and landed in a place that is lighter and perfumed and demands food to bring out layers with an as yet just strong enough line of acidity and light tannin. Cassis and grilled herbs float lightly with red plums and spice, very bordeaux. Finishes with cedar and subtle black cherry. A beautifully aged cabernet with real elegance.

What a bottle. Over many years, we have had spectacular bottles of this in its youth, and yet many have met an early demise with corks that showed far too much ingress. It has been considered gone for quite some time. This cork was unreal, a 1/16th inch flush soak mark, and a color to match that has not gone full golden honey and retains amber hints. This began a little hollow on the palate and positively bloomed in the glass adding weight by the second. At full bloom, rich orchard fruits, lively lemon and citrus to cut, and the signature finish of ginger and spice that lives on the palate for days while complimenting your seared tuna and herbed vinaigrette. A very special wine, and a very lucky bottle. Cheers Josh.

Generously brought by my in-laws to share alongside a special occasion dinner of rib-eyes and fixings. Decanted ~4 hours, consumed over 1 1/2 hours. Dark berries, dried Italian spices, black olive and anise, something on the nose reminding me of a hot afternoon in the Sierras.

The concentrated fruit and healthy level of acidity mask the 15.3% alcohol well and makes this seem remarkably young - the only signs of age were the amount of sediment and the very slightest touch of a brownness in the color. This has everything it needs to keep going for years to come.

Overall, maybe not quite as harmonious as our bottle from a few years ago, but still something special.

Unique flavor profile. Some fruit and oak on the nose. Mid palate starts off a little candied, and unlike any syrah flavors. and then finishes a little sherried. Maybe too sweet for some. Will re rate in a few more months

Decanted ~1 1/2 hours, consumed over 2 hours. Intense, somewhat porty merlot, with rich stewed red fruits, ample (bordering on harsh) acidity, and a little heat on the long finish. Huge merlot, dense, spicy, overpowering. Somehow I want to say that this is both better than and not as good as the note may make it sound.
