Better after a night open under cork. Ample fruit, but not jammy - nicely balanced. Tasty.

My second of 3. This was good, but not great. Still holding together well, but the flavor of dark plum is a bit overpowering. Almost a stewed fruit flavor. Hopefully, just bottle inconsistency. One more left.

From Coravin: Color is very deep, inky ruby. The nose is black fruits, vanilla, tobacco, hint of spice, plum, milk chocolate. Palate still shows fairly grippy tannins, with blackberry, vanilla, plum, oak, chocolate, dried herbs, black pepper. Could maybe use a hair more length on the palate. Overall a powerful, well balanced wine that could easily do another 10 years in the cellar.

Three weeks later: Decanted a couple hours. Nose is much more elegant, dusty cedar/wood chips, black fruit, vanilla, maybe a hint of mint. Palate has mellowed, tannins have integrated to some extent based on the decant and time in the bottle. Similar notes on the palate, though less peppery. Very good.

Last of 3, bought on release and kept in climate controlled cellar since.
Pretty light magenta color, watery rim, no bricking.
Sweet cassis, eucalyptus, leather, lanolin and a light touch of embers on the nose.
Unbelievably fresh on the palate. Fully resolved tannins. Bright acidity, guava paste, white peach, raspberries, a touch of malted milk balls offset by minerality and lots of citrus on the finish. Drinks more like a Tignanello than a Napa Cab.

Lovely leathery nose. Perfectly well balanced with nice leathery fruit and enough tannin to last for several more years. Not huge but very smooth.

This is classic Tom Eddy. Decanted for 2 hours and was smooth as silk with a wonderful nose. Had with friends that loves Chappelette Pritchard Hill. He brought the 2016 for dinner at Salt, Ritz, Amelia Island. He and his wife liked the Tom Eddy so much he called to order a few bottles the next day. Both wines were wonderful but the age on the Tom Eddy made it stand out. It's in a perfect window right now.

Still fresh and lively. Quintessential old school Napa Cab. Tom Eddy comes through in every vintage. Entry level wine that tastes like an expensive Napa Cabernet. Fruit, spice, earth playing nice together.

This wine exudes chocolate covered cherries. All around a really elegant wine. For having 7 years of age on it, it still has quite a bit of youthful exuberance but drinking beautifully now.

A magnificently aged 13 year old wine. Near black to the edge with purple bubbles and zero oxidation. Rich aromas, very smooth and caressing texture, all the acidity needed to be refreshing, all the tannin needed to keep the wine from being flabby, huge and delicious black currant fruit, fine secondary fruits of blackberry and black cherry, lush and integrated, with a dry finish and no detached sweetness. Will drink beautifully for at least another 5 years.

Coravined. Very deep intense ruby color. Lots of raisin and brown sugar on the nose. Soft, tongue coating acidity. There’s modest tannic structure. This is not overly sweet. Unique, but not my style at all. Very fun to try at Mark1NPT’s.

13,8% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Fully opaque blackish-red color with a somewhat evolved maroon hue towards the rim. The nose feels very much like a Left Bank Bordeaux with some age - there are fragrant aromas of ripe and slightly wizened blackcurrants with some woody notes of pencil shavings, some freshly ground coffee, a little bit of tobacco, light cedary notes of oak, a sweeter hint of prunes and a touch of smoke. Very lovely and very old school feel here! The wine feels ripe, juicy and evolved yet not old on the palate with a rather full body and rich, intense flavors of blackcurrants, some woody notes of pencil shavings, a little bit of toasty coffee character, light tart and crunchy notes of fresh red plums, a hint of old leather and a smoky touch of phenolic spice. The wine is velvety in texture, yet not without good sense of firmness and structure - thanks to the rather high acidity and still moderately grippy medium-plus tannins. The lengthy finish is broad, rich and somewhat grippy with a slightly sweet-toned aftertaste of ripe blackcurrants, some toasty oak notes of mocha, a little bit of licorice, light spicy phenolic nuances, a sweet hint of succulent dark plum and a touch of leathery funk.

Basically everyone agreed right from the start that this must be a Left Bank Bordeaux; honestly, the wine was so very identical to a mid-1990's Bordeaux that it fooled everyone. The style here was fresh and crunchy yet somewhat evolved, so we thought this must be from the 1990's - it wasn't ripe enough to be from the 2000's yet it didn't feel old enough to be from the 1980's. Based on the ripeness and still somewhat toasty yet well-integrated oak tones, we thought this must be a 1996 Bordeaux from some of the producers that had already started modernizing things yet weren't fully Parkerized by that point. Well, the wine turned out to be a '97 Napa Cab. Live and learn! This was a very attractive wine by all standards, really a Bordeaux-drinker's Napa Cab! Although the wine is starting to show some signs of age, there's still miles and miles left in the tank - well, at least based on our bottle that was still in fantastic shape! This wine is eminently enjoyable right now, but I feel there is still a little bit of room left for further development and improvement. Drink or keep. Highly recommended.

3rd of 6. 14.5% abv and the heat shows a bit. The acidity is perfect, and the tannins are very fine and plentiful. There is a good amount of tasty ripe fruit, and a good amount of oak. This should hold well for at least another decade.

One hour decant. Deep dark magenta color. Almond butter, cassis, lavender, bay leaf, and walnut brownie. Dry, brambly palate, with good acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

This was not great, but it continued to improve over an hour of drinking. The structure is excellent, but it’s more herbal and nutty than I like. It’s more savory than sweet. Very little fruit.

Dark red at the core, fading to the edges. Slightly harsh and plummy on the nose. Bright and precise on the palate, but harsh, cherries and spice. Heat shows through. Sharp tannins, harsh acidity. Out of balance at this point. Finishes short and plummy. Well past peak. I have always liked the Tom Eddy cabs and they do age well. This one was just past the drinking window. Should have drunk it 3 years ago.

Definitely an elegant wine but not sure it is THAT much better than another Cab half it’s price. It is balanced and has tannins that are beginning to soften, which I like. Good fruit on the nose and plate.

A bit raisiny at PNP, but blows off quickly. Probably held these a bit too long. Tannins fully resolved and a bit flabby as a result. Fruit was a bit shy, but mostly dark berries accompanied by mocha and spice. Average finish.

Outstanding I have never had a bad bottle of Tom’s wine. They are built to age. He uses new barrels every year.

Smokey chocolate finish tannis really good. You can tell he uses nothibg but high end friut. They are really good 10 years in. But like beringer private reserve, even better 15-20 years in.
