At a recent tasting of Antinori wines this was my favorite and a great value at $30. This is also my first experience with the Negromaro grape, see Stephano's note. Strongly reccomend

Competent with some tannins and tartness, but not exciting.

See Stefano's note. went to a high end wine tasting put on by Plum Market of Antinori's wines. This was #1 of the night and I bought 8 bottles. Tasting notes to follow. Dark, interesting, can't wait to try a bottle or 3.

3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens): 9 months in oak (malolactic included) and then 12 months in bottle.
The color is pale reddish. The nose is clean, medium to high intensity, red fruits mainly with some sweet spices and a few bitter hints here and there that add to the freshness. A nice youthful and almost sweet profile overall.
The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, the acidity stands a bit higher, rich in tannins that are not too aggressive, red fruit and spices in the medium to long finish.
Very good quality, drinking now but could hold.

3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens): 10 months in French and Hungarian 225lt barrels, then 8 months in bottle.
The wine has a clear ruby color. The nose is clean, showing medium to high intensity, nice dense profile with chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, ripe black small fruits, there is a sweetness overall.
The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, alcohol and acidity stand taller, tannins are medium and well rounded. The fruit is ripe/overripe, the flavors copy the nose with coffee bits thrown in as well and black fruit liquer, medium concentration and clove infused medium finish.
Very good quality, drinking well now but could hold.

3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens): A bit shy in the nose, giving more in the palate, dry and fruity, smoky notes with some nutty nuances, balanced, easy going, medium finish. Very good overall

A beautifully mature Aglianico with still some beautiful years of life ahead.

Eye of the beholder: Dark red with slightly mature brim.
Nose: Started out with a lot of unpleasant odours, but they luckily blew away. Dark fruits and unrefined older signage.
Palate: Beautifully concentrated, intense wine that stands firm like a boulder. Not overly refined, with a coarse structure and rough tannins. But, balance is impeccable and its presence is marvellous. There is a restraint on the composition, and a subtle level of maturity is upon us.

After three days, the final glass, under a cork in room temperature:
Nose unbearably oxidized. But on the palate are now beautiful aromas of milk chocolate, leather, tea-leaves, La Garrigue and soft, red fruits. Tannins are now more to the point, and the whole structure is still coarse.

Glorious maturity with at least five more years on the plateau.

Confermo, molto preciso, buono e soddisfacente.
Vino un po' morbido ed alcolico, ma con un sorso dolce, piacevole, speziato e leggermente balsamico.
Ottimo prodotto.

Very deep ruby-garnet, black core, very slow moving legs, viscous. Medium(+) aromas of black fruit, pencil shavings, lead, cigar box. Dry, medium(-) acidity, medium plush tannin, medium(+) alcohol and high alcohol, with some residual heat. Medium(+) flavors of blueberries, orange peel, leather, bitter chocolate. Juicy firm texture, rather linear structure. Very long finish, slightly tannic, with bitter-sweet yet fruity aftertaste. Decant, this is big & beautiful.

The wine looks tawny colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. The body is light. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has high acidity. Wine was fizzy/tingly, suspect some re-fermentation going on. Taste was ok. Nose was ok.

Quickly double decanted and brought to the neighborhood restaurant. From the sound of the other reviews, that was nowhere near enough time to breathe. This came off as velvety but tannic and I suspect a lot of the enjoyment was somewhere behind that wall. Still excellent. 90

Did not decant, drank from opening through one hour. Beautiful dark blackberry and coffee notes, leather and still a tannic back that is evolving. Not as rustic as some aglianocos can be. No sediment. Loved every sip, was outstanding with rigatoni carbonara and short rib. Great now and a few more years.

Ripe fruit on the nose with aromas of peach, mango, nectarine and ripe orange. There is a very pure friity creaminess, not too rich, but pleasantly filling.
The flavours confirm this impression: the wine is on the soft side, but retains a nice acidity with an over medium body. A light ginger aftertaste complete the job, for a wine that is really good, especially at this low price.
