2011 Trapiche Malbec Broquel

Mendoza more

7/19/2015 - Merky_Waters Likes this wine: 89 points

strikes a good balance between big oaky fruit and refined structure.

full body, juicy but integrated acid and soft satiny tannins. drinking great now.

blue fruit and oak dominate with hints of incense, spice, and smoked meats.
the french oak adds deeper coffee, chocolate, and plush texture while the sweetness of teh american oak shows itself on the round easy finish.

for fruit i get blueberry, black cherry, and even a little plum.

obviously new world but with some polish and balance not always found at this price point.

2008 Trapiche Malbec Single Vineyard Vina Jorge Miralles

La Consulta more

7/9/2015 - Christoffer78 Likes this wine: 93 points

The 2008 Jorge Miralles reveals a nose full red fruit, like red currant and a slight whiff of cranberry, but there is also classy led pencil, white pepper and the expected crème de cassis. Oak exposure is as genle in this effort as in previous vintages from other vineyards, or it has just had the time to integrated. The palate is nicely balanced, but perhas shows a slight lack of integration with all components speaking up with their own eloquent yet massive voices. The length on the finish lasts some 50 seconds. This effort will continue to develop for a many more years to come. A beautiful wine!

Delightful! A blend of oak and dark fruits with a creamy textured finish. My favorite Malbec under $10.

Tart cherry with slight tobacco flavors, some blackberry, but not a lot. Dry finish and a little bit too much alcohol on the nose. It did smooth out a bit after breathing for a while.

Perfumed nose. It's like I'm standing on a flower garden.
Notes of passion fruit, ripe pineapple, pear, kiwi, papaya and coconut. Distant minerality.
Rather flabby, with a short stemmy finish.
A little too girly for me. Needless to say, my wife loved it.
Paired it with roasted chicken in hogao and mixed salad with almonds, cranberries and Parmesan cheese.

Violet color with a lovely plummy scent.
Light and fruity; delicate, mellow and very enjoyable.
Leather and black fruit nuances with distant vanilla and perfectly rounded tannins.
Medium finish and crisp acidity.
Silky smooth on your throat, leaves you with a feeling that you haven't had enough.
Paired beautifully with cheese crepe and chocolate truffle; but I have a feeling it goes great with just about anything.

After-cut-wood aromas, little earth, black currant jam and fermented plums.
On the palate rounded, smooth and ripe tannins, medium body, flavors of black berry jam with cherry bon-bon what has a nice and warm long length. Delicious, ripe, not very complex.

So, decent enough, but for young crowd in my opinion. Low price 15$ CAN. New product line "Malkina" from the formidable producer Trapiche. Their rose is tasty FYI. This is young and may mature over next 2-4 yrs - but is a hair off-dry, slightly manufactured quality to it with dark cherry/slight cassis note to this on palate. Not offensive, better served a hair chilled over the summer and again, would appeal to a wide crowd exploring wine.

Hard to say... Maybe this wine is on it's return maybe it's in a closed part of it's life. It still had potential but it's losing the fruit now. So it's less frtuity but still tannic and alcohol sharp on the finish.

Drank this alongside the 2013 and the conclusion was that one extra year in the cellar adds balance and helps the oak to integrate perfectly, while the fruit remains alive, so this is at peak right now. Medium straw colour. Expressive nose of mellon, nectarine and hints of mango. Perfectly integrated oak. Medium+ bodied, rich and sweet fruit, medium acidity, good balance overall. Quite complex with good length. Very solid oaked chard. Excellent qpr.

An interesting wine: Flavours of smoked strawberry and bramble dominate like a hybrid of Chilean PN & Aussie shiraz.
An enjoyable bottle that held well over a week (vacuvin'd) still showing well balanced acidity and ripe fruit

In a good place right now as the structure is no longer forbidding. The concentrated, bitter-sweet fruit surrounds the tongue and works its way inward but feels somehow hindered.

Nice, light and simple rose, that is tasty, easy drinking and has low price point such that it gets a 1+ point....overall the flavour profiile is a dry Rose, with light 1-2 dimensional ripe cherry/berry fruit note. I would serve this for any summer BBQ before and during dinner and would guess that folks would rave!

This single vineyard Malbec is made with fruit from La Consulta, located at 1,070 metres. It's deep red in colour with ruby red edges. I found plenty of dark berry fruit and an interesting hint of citrus. Very full bodied. Layers of fruit, pepper and spice with well integrated oak. Lovely fine grained tannins on the finish. Excellent!

As per my original tasting note, this has notes of a shiraz/pinot hybrid. An interesting wine and drinking well but held well for a week vacuvin'd. Still should last a while.....will it develop/evolve? I have one last bottle of this vintage and 2x 2011 to find that out.

Interesting wine. The cab franc gives it a different touch and though I thought 30% would not show much it was actually a little over the malbec at start. The acidity is huge but the oak is moderate making it a wine not appropriate for churrasco (SA barbecue). Shows well with 20 minutes decant but starts to fade away if you are drinking slowly. Could improve with 2 years more of cellar.
