Red colour with a brick-red hue. At first the nose shows an odd flavour of dill(?), but shortly thereafter it gives more classic notes like leather, moulded leaves, chocolate and bay leaves. Nice maturity in a powerful way showing oak and tannines and with a very nice long finish.

At Emirates lounge. Still a fairly dark garnet. A serious wine with dark almost austere fruit, some tannins are still there but the wine is drinking well now. Short to medium finish. An impressive effort for what must be the 3rd wine of Valandraud. 90
A second, warmer glass a few days later at the same lounge seems softer and more open, with the Merlot coming through stronger. Perhaps from a bottle that had been opened for longer. Still a very nice wine. 89.

1 hour in mag decanter then consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Blood orange, cassis, and fresh cherries with bacon fat and earthy, mushroom herbal undertones. Palate: High toned with cherries, spice and still good acid and tannin levels. Finish is delicate and medium in length as this is almost Burgundian in style. Still going pretty strong for an 11 year old Bdx and the nose pushes this to 91 pts. Good value at $30.

Westchester Wine School - Premium Wine Tasting (Bar Lees, Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS tasting alongside 2000 Canon La Gaffeliere & Certan De May. Decanted for an hour, it was a deep ruby color. Medium to full-bodied, very tannic, lots of fruit but fairly muted at first by the very prevalent spice and tar notes. As the wine opened up, it showed a very powerful, robust, somewhat earthy character. The tannins are very heavy at this point so I found it difficult to thoroughly enjoy this wine, but it's certainly a quality concoction. This was especially so when drinking next to the 2000 Gaffeliere which was stunning, and easily the best wine of the tasting hands down.

Great nose, mushroom, nuts, and some pretty fruit. But the palate is just watery. Maybe I had set my expectation too high. Normally would rate it 87.

Valandraud 3 de Valandruad – 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon make up the blend that is aged in 50% new oak with the remainder aged in tank. This easy to like wine offers sweet cherry and earth in a forward style that is best enjoyed in its youth. 88-89 Pts

Valandraud 3 de Valandruad While the name 3 de Valandruad implies this is the third wine of Valandraud, it’s actually the second wine of Valandraud. The name comes from an inside joke of Jean Luc Thunevin. Ripe dark berries, licorice, supple textures, sweet black raspberry and an anise filled finish are the signatures of this wine. 89-91 Pts

Medium purple. This wine was decanted for 2 hours prior. Wonderful nose of red fruits, spice, perfume and gravel. On the palate it is showing spices, gravel, cherry, and leather. Good acidity and structure to the this wine. A nice 2nd label from Valandraud.

Light red wine with typically fine tuned Cabernet franc nose and fine oak. On the palate it comes out as an almost bashful though VERY elegant lady with a most charming oakiness (perfectly my personal taste). A rather ambitious 3rd wine when it comes to presentation and perfume. To survive a whole dinner, you need to compensate for the slender contents of this bottle with mild dishes.

Still a bright ruby colour. Dark cherry and blackberries on the nose. Layers of red fruit on the palate. Silky tannins, well-layered, and great concentration.
