Yellow tropical fruits in the bouquet. On the palate quite elegant, some petrol yellow fruits and caramel, nice minerality and a good balance between acidity and sweetness. Ready now and the next few years. Very good wine.

Bouquet with minerals and green herbs. On the palate white fruits like pear and apple, grasses, some honey and petrol. Beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. Good concentration and a bit fat. With some age on it this is still a beautiful Weissburgunder.

Honey, ripe white and yellow fruits in the bouquet. On the palate mango and white fruits, a bit like fruit pastry. Apple acidity and some bitterness in the finish. Ready now and the next 3+ years.

Better showing than last time. I poured it into a decanter and put it into the fridge to let it breathe for 2 hours. The color is very golden and the nose consists of lemon and a bit of peaches.

This is a very good wine in its price range (16 €) and definetly better than the 2012. Highly recommended!

12% Vol.

Had it while cooking Spaghetti Puttanesca with Philipp.

Medium yellow. Nose with citrus, some yellow apple, some stone fruit and a hint of tropical fruit, a bit of smoke/burnt match, mineral and some other muted notes (wool?) and just a hint of petroleum. The fruit does not dominate the nose, as the other components are rather prominent. Almost dry palate (but not quite), good concentration of yellow fruit with good ripeness, quite present minerality, good acidity, and a fresh aftertaste. There's a bit of "spontaneous fermentation" quality and restrained style over the wine, which doesn't really try to flatter. To me that's good. Fully approachable, but could take many more years in the cellar. 90 p.

A lot of orange peel and minerals in the bouquet. On the palate apricots, soft and sweet. Medium acidity. A very tasty wine, but I wonder if the acidity is good enough to make this wine last very long.

Petrol in both the bouquet as on the palate. Honey, minerals and tart citrus. Spreading through the mouth. Focused, tight, elegant and complex. Ready in this stage, but also in some years from now.

Much better than my last bottle. This was slow-oxygenated for a couple of hours before serving, and showed really nicely with layers of ripe citrus and stone fruit flavours accented by lime leaf, stony minerality, and more savoury smoky notes. There's a broad, creamy texture on the palate, but good acidity beneath keeping it very well balanced.

Deep yellow. Great nose - floral, red fruit, ripe apples, wet stones. Very powerful and energetic on the palate, quite tight with almost tannic grip. Lots of minerality, slightly creamy, rich, very intense and long. Lovely detail towards the finish. Approachable now, but should improve further. 92-93+

This didn't do much for me. There's plenty of ripe fruit, minerality, and a touch of developing creaminess here, but it's somewhat monotonic and heavy on the palate without the acidity or lightness that I look for in Saar Riesling. It's certainly well balanced, but just isn't particularly interesting or charming.

Nice good Riesling. Better than the 2012. Not too much acid as most other German rieslings of 2013. Was definetly better after 3 days in the fridge. This also appplies to most of the young german dry rieslings I had.

Completely stick to my notes written in March 2012 --- And it did not erupt while it is pure Van Volxem expression and elegance, smooth, almost oily, mixture of yellow fruit and melted stone, nice sweetness is all around, some herbal notes in the background, some citrus notes, some saltiness. This wine is not expressive, it is balanced, an expression of sunny elegance.

Pale golden color. Expressive nose of ripe pear, apple, stony minerality, lemon zest and a touch of smoke. On the palate there are mainly ripe sweet pear again, apple, some citrus notes and some flintstone/minerality. It's medium-full bodied with medium-high acidity, a touch of sweetness and very good length. Ends with a tiny little bit of bitterness (which I like). A very beautiful Riesling that still feels pretty young.

Slightly floral with white stone fruit, pear, green apples as well as wet stones on the nose. On the palate crips acidity, fine minerality, lime fruit. Really good balance without being overly complex. Very good finish, subtle and persistent. Solid and well made, this has an excellent QPR. Will keep for another couple of years, but great now. 88-90

Rieslingfeier 2015 Seminar: "Saar Diversity" (The Modern (Manhattan, NYC)): Lighter in profile on the nose than the Altenberg AR: light and sharp, slatey, stone, grass, herbal, peach pit and lime - cool and blue (menthol?). Also light on the palate - citrusy, acidic and stony. Elegant and focused - linear: good power, light weight. Long stony, lime, peach pit finish. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16-16.5/20.

Tasted as part of the Germany 'vs' Italy joint tasting. A joint efforts between two local wine merchants.
Light straw yellow, bright colour, fresh white flower nose with subtle lime and citrus aromas with just a hints of mineral. Light and off dry palate, with nice fruity expression of lime, citrus and green apple. It has surprisingly good richness on palate at this level. Medium finish. A really nice simple quaffer with or without food.

Rieslingfeier 2015 Seminar: "Saar Diversity" (The Modern (Manhattan, NYC)): Powerful nose - almost Austrian Smaragd in profile: structured, deep and brothy, saline, lemon, very herbal, powdered stone, talc. Delicious on the palate: huge minerality, saline, herbal, stony, great touch of RS to buffer the edges. Herbal and slate finish. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16.5-17.5/20.

Rieslingfeier Riesling Crawl (New York City, NY): From 130-year-old vines. You can definitely tell that there's a difference when having this next to the regular bottling. This has a lot more density, concentration, and extract. However, this is austere and doesn't display the ripe fruit character I'd expect from 2012 at all.
