Very nice Cabernet & carmenere blend. A little spice and lots of dark fruit. Medium tannins.

Tried over 4 hrs. Deep purple, oak on nose, moments of goodness, but mostly funkiness. might improve, try long decant

Very herbal aromatics - there is also some tobacco and darker floral notes. The herbal notes carry onto the palate, they aren't bad but there wasn't much else to give the wine interest.

While not remarkable, I was happy with it's structure and mouthfeel. Just a little mono-dimensional for higher points, but a competent wine.

The 2009 Veranda Cabernet-Carmenère Apalta is a solid wine. With each grape contributing 50%, you truly get to experience the characteristics of both. The carmenere lightens the body of the blend, while cabernet delivers its traditional qualities. I prefer a more full bodied wine, but I really enjoyed this bottle. Wine Spectator did not publish a rating for the 2009, but the 2007 was rated 86. This aligns with the sole review on CellarTracker for the 2009 bottle. I rate Veranda Cabernet-Carmenère Apalta an 87. For a wine that costs less than $20, it is a good buy.

Rating Scale: Extraordinary (95-100 points); Outstanding (90-94); Very Good to Excellent (85-89); Good (80-84); Average (75-79); Below average (70-74); Avoid (50-69)

Nice Cab/Carmenere blend. Fairly typical for the region with bell pepper and blackberry aromas and flavors. Juicy dark fruited attack, then dries out a bit from mid-palate on to the finish. Mildly astringent tannin on the finish. All in all, well balanced with typicity, but lacking the roundness and finish to be outstanding.

Very surprising at this price level, from this region. Usually sub-$20 will get you something either thin or simple and bland. It is a Power Pinot, but with plenty of character. Horse saddle on the nose, along with menthol and black cherry. Dense on the palate, medium full body, medium acidity, dark fruit driven. Finish has spicy oak and even a suggestion of tar with firm tannic structure.

This is extracted and muscular for a Pinot--I don't know what I'd peg it as blind as it has certain Bordelais and Nebbiolo-like qualities. Yet there is quite a lot going on and might need a few years to unwind.

Atypically big, brawny style from Bio Bio. Tannic, backward, the pinot fruit hidden for at least a year or two. None of the pretty gummy bears thing here, but a masculine wine more reminiscent of a big RRV cult bottling. Give this about two years to reveal its core pinot identity

Drinking very nice now. Great fruit forward taste, complexity yet smooth taste and finish. The 50/50 blend is a very friendly mix most delightful. Decantered for an hour and on the second day a slight loss in desire was experienced.

Trouble, flou et beaucoup trop boisé, on ne reconnaissait pas le Pinot Noir du tout. On voyait bien qu'il y avait de la matière, mais il manquait de distinction et de raffinement.

Very fruit forward with a mineral hint. The bouquet is reminiscent of cherry and a little tobacco/raisin. A little heat when first opened but rounds out after about a glass. Really reminiscent of burgundy wine.

Strong oak aroma. Dry leaf, earthy soil, ripe plum taste with some alcoholic feeling. Spiciness is soft in terms of Syrah. Good blueberry, cherry and blackcurrant aftertaste. Moderate tannin but quite raw. Dry and slightly bitter. Can decant 0.5-1 hour to soften tannin.

Very solid PN for the money -- rich, but showing red fruit, with lots of acidity on the back end of the palate. It definitely shows its Burgundian roots. Love a single vineyard Pinot under $20!

Very solid red, a little less intense and smoky than the 2008. Nose is intense with dark fruit, slight smoky notes, and lots of mint. Palate is medium bodied, with dark fruit and a nice finish. Tannins are there, but this wine falls to the elegant side. Great QPR.
