The proper rating for this wine is NR. Lots going on between the blackberry, cassis and vanilla. This wine is a powerhouse, but doesn't know what to do with itself for another 5 yr at least. Beautiful offering from one of my favorite Napa producers (and they should be yours too). This wine is a BABY, and can hold another few years with good temp and humidity. Right now this wine is an NR, but I almost had a 93 in the rating field, but deleted it.

A challenging year for the Rutherford Red, and yet I'm not entirely sure this one was ready to go even after 3 hours of time in the glass. This wine is very well made by a small producer in Napa, but the fruit just shows muted characteristics. The depth just isn't there on this one, but the backbone certainly is. This has the potential of being just as good as the 2010 (and everyone sure knows what I think of the 2010!). There appears to be a significant absence of merlot, and upon further glance this wine is 46 Cab, 31 Petit Verdot, 15 Malbec, and 8 Cab Franc....no merlot. Poured a very dark red into the glass, and coated it nicely. It's a wine that has a blackberry and floral nose, smooth and full bodied on the entry, blackberrry, cassis, middle of black cherry and Rutherford dust (but subdued compared to the 09 and 10), and finishes with a little heat or mint. Sweet tannin. I didn't detect nearly as much tannin as the 2010 or 2009 RR's. This wine is best held another 1-2 years before attempting a rating. I didn't feel as if it was on its best tonight.

Concentrated black fruits with tobacco, and tomato leaf. It shows that rubarb, slightly green or herbal note is proof it's Cab Franc.

To expand on previous tasting notes. The remaining 50cc of this was left overnight to sit and oxidize. In the AM was a wine that was very different. Dark, dusty, oaked, blackberry, just about zero spice. Actually was a very subdued wine, but definitely not "done" even sitting out overnight.

Echo previous notes. Very consistent. Butter on the front and old world on the finish. Excellent notes. Fought for the last 50ml of this one! Will continue to appreciate a tiny bit more within 2 years, but done in 6-7! Very approachable now.

RUTH-ER-FORD - DUST. A very nicely well done wine, and dusty!!! This bottle needed about an hour of decanting before it was even in the ballpark to be rated (had this weird nitrogen and somewhat vegetal note in the first 15 minutes). At 2 or 3 hours, this one still shows some restraint and youth. Nice dusty nose, notes of kirsch, purple fruits, blackberry, quite intoxicating actually. On the palate is a full bodied, dusty monster with blackberry, dark baker's chocolate, a hint of mocha in the mid-palate blackberry core with saddle leather and bramble. DUSTY! The finish is sweet tannin, quite a bit punchy, and still with a TON of age left. This wine will appreciate over the next 7-10 years without a doubt, possibly longer. Drink 2015-2025.

Bottle was expressing beautifully tonight. Cork withdrawn intact. Nose of red clay gravel and dirty raspberry on the cork. Nose out of the bottle was very expressive. This wine is darker than the 09, 10, or 11, and I guess it should be so. This wine had more of a nose typical of a rough, dirty full bodied super tuscan. I was getting some green olive notes, raspberry, and graham cracker both on the nose and palate. Thick, dense, full bodied wine with full bodied and velvety mouthfeel. Black cherry and anise in front, grilled meat and new leather in the middle where it turned much darker and smoky to more of a blackberry. Finish still rather tannic, but tannin is starting to soften compared to the more recent vintages. Integration is already crazy on this one -- still has 5-7 years left but I think that this one is drinking about a year under peak. I can't wait to see how another 2-3 years will help this one! Done probably around 2022. Ready to go right now with very minimal decanting.

So it appears as though I'm the only sap that has consumed this bottle thus far. Wise decision, considering that it needs about another year of bottle aging. This winery overall should just now be releasing their 2010's....the 2011's should be in the bottle and away from hands....like mine. An excellent 09 and 10 Cab Franc made me very curious to try the 11. Interestingly, I believe that their quality is right up there where it should be. This is a well made wine, perhaps a little more thin than the 09 or 10. The 11 bursts with notes of dusty black cherry. Medium to full bodied wine that took probably 3 hours to open up (somewhat). Rutherford dust on the finish (along with a lot of tannin). Still quite an enjoyable wine to have with lunch....and not sure if the longevity of this one is on par with previous vintages. But it won't be showing its true colors in 2015 that's for sure! Wait until 2016!!!

I think this perhaps is a little young. This Rutherford beauty is going to shine eventually, but tonight was a little restrained when served pop and pour. Cork popped with minimal bleed. Wine was dark on the pour with a good blackberry nose. The fruit was excellent -- dark potent blackberry and boysenberry, but restrained. A little brambly in the front despite maintaining a little elegance. Got a little better after 45 minutes. Rutherford dust in the middle was VERY evident and went well with the boysenberry nature and dusty charm. Finish was a little tannic, but not as much as the Cab Franc or Rutherford Red. This wine is good, but not the best one in their lineup. Franc and Red are way more complex. This wine will continue to evolve another 2-3 years, and I think that the best drinking for this one will be around 2018/19. Drink 2016-2024

This wine was a badass tonight!!! In a field of a Far Niente, Insignia, Howell Mountain wine, and this one, everyone here scored this one as number 1. Cork was popped and bottle decanted for about 30 minutes. Pouring this one into the glass was more of a medium+ wine (this was my offering to the table). I thought at first that I was undermanned (seeing as though I had never had one of these before). What was in the glass was a very complex wine with an amazing black cherry and floral nose. On the palate was a deep, dark, complex wine that was blackberry to the core, black cherry on top of that, lavender on top of that, a little bit of saddle leather. The mid-palate was dark, smoky, chewy, and dusty, characteristic of Rutherford! That dust was present all the way to the finish. Medium tannin on the finish, but this wine is very well integrated already. Tannin was a little stiff, but it didn't take away from anything this one had to offer. This wine was certainly the most interesting (the Niente and Insignia were just pepper and blackberry bombs...but good ones at that!). Amazing wine from WHWines. I am sorry that I didn't get more than 3 before they sold out!! 2013-2022, best drinking probably 2016.

Similar to previous notes. This is so accessible right now - so floral. Quite a bit of fruit, not so tannic, light on its feet. Maybe not a good cab style for those who prefer something more serious.

Very good wines made by WH Wines, and this one is NO exception. The only thing I would have done differently about this wine would have been to let it open for about 2 hours before starting to consume it as there was a flint and metallic note on the very front at the start, which kind of threw me off a little bit. This producer is a very modest, yet producing some of the most ridiculous Rutherford wines on a beautiful piece of property that backs up to Quintessa. I remember that this was a proper Rutherford Cabernet, as it had a full bouquet of earth, terroir ("Rutherford Dust" ), and is Medium ++ bodied to full bodied. The wine poured a dark red into the glass. The nose was all blackberry. rhubarb. Earthy grit. The middle kind of lightened into a black cherry and mocha note. The finish was all traditional Napa Rutherford Cab with some sweet tannin (and quite a bit of it) along with that Rutherford Dust. An excellent wine, which will only improve with time. Done by 2020, so if you only have one more bottle (like I do), then let the last one sit 3-4 years before trying again! Well made wine by my new favorite Napa Valley producer, WH Wines.

This is a deep, dark and dense wine. Popped and poured with minimal bottle decant. The nose had a little floral hibiscus and wildflower, but there was quite a bit of black cherry and almost a hint of vanilla. A little bit of heat on the nostrils kind of like a kirsch. It was actually very enjoyable, and somewhat unique. On the palate, rich full bodied red raspberry and underripe cherry danced with some bramble. Very true to Cab Franc. The mid-palate is where this one turned a little darker, more intense, showing off more of a fruit core than a floral bomb (thank goodness). No heat on the finish, but quite a bit of tannin. Rutherford dust is present here, but I can't tell if it's the franc, the tannin, or the dust! This one is a BABY,....and will hold for at least another 10 years. I really don't think this one can be properly rated at this time, hence an NR rating, as it simply needs another 1-2 years in the bottle to develop. Drink 2016-2023.

This is a crazy, two-headed Chardonnay that is going through an identity crisis! That's not always a bad thing!!! On the one hand is a very full malolactic chard with an excellent, silky mouthfeel. On the other hand is spicy, old world, acidic and mineral-dominated chard. This wine is the perfect balance, and I dare say one of the best Chards I've had in recent memory. This outpaces $70 chardonnays at about half the cost. Served chilled around 60 degrees, this wine has peach, apricot, honeydew, a hint of mango, and is a full bodied, soft chardonnay that has a hint of spice on the very full bodied, long oaked up finish. If you let this one sit in the back of your palate, or when warmed up, the wine takes on a more old world characteristic. It still has a lot of character and depth up front, but at room temp this wine seems to have a lot of minerality that percolates on through....crushed rock in the middle with more of a citrus lemon zest and even a hint of sour apple on the finish with some white pepper spice that stings the palate. Probably one of the best Chards I've had in recent memory. I think this one has the depth that it can hold at least 5-7 years, but this one is such a delight to drink that why would you wanna do that??

Lovely intense color the flavors are intense but still slightly disjointed and not completely integrated and developed. That said this one awesome Cabernet that is ripe but not over ripe and I just opened it too soon. Great balance, lovely tannins, and tons of classic flavors including French oak in context. I will come back to this in two years.

Incredibly delicious bottle of wine!!! Even better than when we tasted at the Wm Harrison winery.
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis) and fig. The body is full and has the distinctive "dust" characteristic associated with Rutherford wines. The wine has polished texture and finishes long.
