Pretty classic and up my alley. White peach and minerals. Tiny touch of petrol with air on the nose. Rounded in the mouth but a med+ dry finish.

International Riesling Day was this year celebrated together with the Doctor!

First time having a dry Riesling from Thanisch and had been looking forward to this bottle for a long time.

The nose felt super light, elegant and restrained. Citrus fruits, some zest, greengage, unripe tropical fruits, white flowers and some sweetness with only a very, very light touch of petroleum.

At first on the palate you're met with a really lovely acidity from lemon, lime, lemon zest, greengage and unripe tropical fruits which is quickly accompanied but just a light sweetness and a quite a lot of body and mouthfeel.
Then towards the finish and for the full aftertaste it goes very extreme with grapefruit juice, grapefruit and lemon pith, petroleum and spices making it very, very bitter - coating the mouth, removing all the previous notes and staying. Really a bummer for me as the nose and the initial palate was so lovely.

Truthfully, I expected more from a €35 GG and have had other GG's in the price range, and cheaper dry Rieslings, that I liked a lot more.
I have had a lot of amazing Kabinett/Spätlese from Thanisch, so I think I will stick with their sweeter wines!

Trying this Grosse Lage selection from Dr. H. Thanisch based in Bernkastel-Kues. The vineyard itself was used during the Middle Ages as bathing complexes and is a good area rich in slate. 8.5% ABV.

The wine's colour is pale lemon, nose is medium plus intense with notes of ripe yellow apples, pear drops, heather honey, toasted almonds and lemongrass. The palate has a full body, pronounced flavour intensity and a high level of acidity with notes of yellow apples, tangerines, candied lemon peel, honeydew, toasted almond, lemongrass and wet pebble stone minerality. The finish is medium length with lingering sweet fruitiness.

Pretty solid Auslese but the finish is a bit lacking. Not enough substance here which is disappointing for an Auslese from a Grosse Lage site in Mosel. For the price though it's not too bad and should improve a ton over the next couple decades. In its infancy its a good pairing with a freshly cooked pork schnitzel and fried potatoes.

Simple, basic rielsing. Not bad for the price. Lemon, grass, petrol, green apple with mid-acidity. Easy-drinking and well-paired with chicken, though it’s a little too grassy and bitter.

Nice notes already express the complexity of this little bottle at this price point. A touch high in RS for my style, but an interesting pour over a couple of days. Really dig the beeswax and tropical notes and the mouthfeel is well balanced. And it's a screwtop.

Deep, rich amber in color. Wine diamonds are prevalent.
Loads of ripe stone fruit. Honey, ripe yellow apples.
Remnants of scidity still there. Tastes like the nose. Medium-minus finish. Sweetie, but not too sweet.
Very nice, and Britt friendly.

OMG #105 (Ann Arbor, MI): Not much in the acidity department and leans heavy, but the sweetness ultimately stays in check and the ripe orchard fruit is very pretty. A style that works well with foie gras, which thankfully was passed to me just after I poured this.
