Still a bit big. Will benefit from another year or so of age

Paired with post-dinner dark chocolate. This was bottle #7 of 12. Seems like this is finally gaining the depth and balance hoped for.

Margaret River Wine Trip; 4/5/2015-4/10/2015 (Margaret River Chalet): Dark, purple appearance. Black and redcurrant, white pepper, milk chocolate nose. Bolder, darker, and more fruit driven than some of the other MR Shiraz I've been trying with some toasty oak carrying through the finish.

Still young, need 1-2 hours decant to soften the sharp edges. Softer tannins, vanilla, creamy, mellow, Eucalyptus. Good value.

Quite a dense nose of delicate phosphorus from the oak, some pear skin and aromatic florals with a firm and bright palette of spicy, metallic minerals and bitter white peach finish. Good value.

Ok drinking at the wholesale price of $11. Essentially commercial grade chardonnay, pleasant but not smart. Some pineapple, bitter fruits, otherwise unremarkable.

Did the job for a Cab in the low $20's. Had a hint of class about it, so was satisfied.

Peter Bourne GWT Tasitng Chardonnay (8 Danks street, Sydney): Worked notes with obvious aromas of oak, cream, dusty spice over perfumed notes and slight stone fruit. On the palate there are flavours of unripe peach which proves quite tangy, then a fair whack of alcohol heat. The wine finishes with a milky mouth coating quality. Not for me.

Powerful and rich aroma of liquorice, spices and casis following through to the palate. Finely grained tannins with a long lingering finish. Truly outstanding drop.

A golden yellow in colour that is deceptive given the wines relative youth. The nose is melon and stone fruit dominant with nougat and flint aromas giving it an extra dimension.

The wine is mouth filling on entry with an array of stonefruits that are accentuated by mineral acidity and supporting citrus that comes through on the mid to back palate.

The finish shows nectarine and touch of butterscotch, with additional bottle derived complexity expected with short to medium term cellaring.

This is a wine that really needs a decant before drinking to unfurl its best, a sign that it will certainly reward long term cellaring

A youthful medium red in colour, the nose opens up with blackberries, mulberries and framing french oak inputs.

The wine that is structural, challenging and rewarding. It's certainly not a fruit bomb, nor is it bone jarringly savoury, it manages to find a middle ground that keeps you going back for more.

On entry you get lots of blackberry fruit that has more of an olive aspect on the mid palate, after which tannin and acid structure take over.

The tannins are ripe but show a cocao / graphite aspect that is drying and mouthwatering. The finish is long and savoury, accentuated by black fruits.

A deep red with crimson hues around the rim, the nose is steaped in olive and backed by meaty blackberry fruits.

The palate is showing elegant secondary flavours of dusty olive, with enough primary blackcurrant and kirsch to bolster the palate.

The finish shows subtlety with dark fruits gaining a savoury aspect and enjoyable leathery notes.

Consumed 6 out of 12 bottles, 1 bttl every 2 months for last year. Will let the others sit another year at least as I don't think they have reached their potential as yet.

I bought a case about 2 years ago and have now cracked open my second bottle. The first bottle (opened earlier this year) was terribly disjointed, which I chalked up to youth, so no rating was given and I let these rest. A few days ago, I opened bottle #2. The nose and first taste after PnP was off-putting, so I decanted for 4 hours, then poured it back into the bottle, screwed the cap and put it back in the wine fridge. 3 days later, I opened and poured. Now I can understand others' positive reviews. A nice peppery, fruity flavor emerges, with medium tannins and fairly well balanced acidity. I can see why some have compared it to a Zin, as it does have similar characteristics but less heat and slightly more depth. Still hoping these get better over the next 2 years, as that was a lot of work to coax out the flavor in this one.
