2004 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel Panoplie

Paso Robles Red Rhone Blend more

6/30/2015 - Hodby wrote: 80 points

Dark red color. Ripe, jammy nose; heads rather too close to grape bubblegum for serious evaluation. On arrival, low tannin and low acidity; very smooth and nice viscosity. It has residual sugar, yes it's noticeable sweet. For a flagship dry wine representing the winery's ambition, this is a big disapointment.

Wonderfully smooth and integrated. After a while, the nose really opened up with floral notes mixed with cedar, leather and hints of wet earth and tobacco. Delicate, drinkable yet complex.

Red cherries, nice smooth body to it with good finish. Tasted side by side vs. the 2011 version of this wine and definitely preferred this one.

A little thin, red cherry with some earth. Decent finish not great. Tasted side by side against the 2010 which was better.

A respectable wine. But I think as I have gotten older my standards keep getting higher! Not up to the cotes and certainly not any of the single varietals and the esprit.

Holding nicely! Opulent stone fruits like nectarines and white cherries backed by citrus and tartaric. Reveals some layering as the temp rises. Wonderfully refreshing in the backyard on a muggy evening before the arrival of mosquitoes in N. VA.

Rhone Rangers WashDC June 18, 2015. Whatever palate fatigue I had after sampling (but not swallowing) 30 plus wines, this Mourvedre really stood out. Tangy, bold, full bodied, with signature young Mourvedre aromatics of black fruits, grape jelly, marinated steak, earth and au jus. Noticeable length. It really perked me up, and yes, I swallowed. More like something I expect from Ridge than Tablas.

Crisp and still in a refreshing primary mode, all zest, flint and mineral, and citrus a la pamplemousse, the way I like Vermentino. Wonder if it can age like a Premier cru Chablis? Great QPR! 88+

Very tasty and satisfying. DC Rhone Rangers megatasting 6/18/2015. I've tasted this Syrah blend 2010 to 2012. At the same price point there is a lot of competition from Cotes du Rhone Villages.

On its own terms and in the context of numerous other Syrahs and Syrah blends at this tasting, the 2013 showed very well, with nice complexity and structure. I found its straightforward Syrah blue fruit and sweet charcoal more appealing than a host of $30-70 Syrahs, several of which relied on ostentatious oak. Mourvedre and Grenache lend it spice and a Rhone feel. Very enjoyable, revealing complexity in the glass with air. Not a 90 point wine but an upper echelon eighties gem. I plan to buy some! 87-89.

2013 Tablas Creek Esprit Blanc de Tablas

Paso Robles White Rhone Blend more

6/22/2015 - wilypod Likes this wine: 90 points

Tasted twice. A bit nondescript when right out of a chilled bottled. A couple of hours later at a cool not cold temperature was much more enjoyable with the butterscotch, lime, and ginger notes that define this wine year after year. Has the classic tension of being both tart and creamy in the mouth. Can't say now if it will measure up to the glorious 2012 but I have never been disappointed with an Esprit Blanc. On track, but wait a year. 88 to 92.

2002 Tablas Creek Tannat

6/20/2015 - worbx Likes this wine: NR

Very rich, bright, deep aroma with berries, and a darker edge to it. Has a very deep dark violet color. The flavor opens with strong tannins that last. There's some fruit behind that, and maybe a touch of oak. The alcohol is not apparent to me in aroma or flavor, although as this opens up over a couple hours I do begin to perceive it. Becomes a little sharp in character, mostly from tannins, a little from alcohol.

Still seems somewhat young. Tasted from 64–72°F.
