3/9/2014 - dgaiser Likes this wine: 94 pointsUnlike the below note, the cork looked like it was out of a 5 year old bottle. Started out rather neutral, but with a little air, the nose was redolent of peppermint, perfumed flowers, dried honey and minerals. Generous but lithe on the palate with notes echoing the nose plus ripe dried yellow and green pears. Perfectly integrated acid and minerality on the long finish. |

4/4/2012 - dgaiser wrote: NRBottle may have been open several hours, so hard to score. Intense nose of autolysis, caramel, baked quince, creamy butterscotch and preserved lemon. Full bodied with classic aged krug qualities. Rich oaky oxidative dried apple and quince with butterscotch, autolysis, preserved lemon and chalk. Long finish. Must have been a stunner fresh after opening. Potential 96. |

4/4/2012 - dgaiser wrote: 90 pointsUnexpected oak! Not typical but delicious. Dominated by yellow apple and asian pear with white fig, creamy meyer lemon, vanilla, wax, butterscotch and gardenia. On the palate, ripe yellow apple and pear, meyer lemon, fresh cream, ginger, vanilla butterscotch, and a quartzy minerality. Clean on the palate with a slightly bitter finish (typical of Pinot Gris, not a in a faulty way). Reminds me of very well made Pinot Blanc from Nuits St Georges in a way. |

4/2/2012 - dgaiser wrote: 96 pointsSecondary dominated nose of dried blood, smoke, fresh dark tobacco, eucalyptus, bay leaf, fresh brown mushrooms, hot wet stone, roasted black plum, roasted cherry and reduced blood orange juice with some heat. Intense on the palate, with roasted cherry, black plum, red currant liqueur, smoke, dried blood, bacon, cured meats, fresh tobacco, eucalyptus and wet hot stones (like putting water on a stone that was in a fire). Long and complex. Still a baby with a long life ahead. Bloody as hell btw. Did I mention blood? |

3/5/2012 - dgaiser wrote: 94 pointsExtremely youthful. Initially everyone blinded this as old CdP, with the aromatic sweet fruit and herbal quality. Later, the nose became more classic dried rose petal perfume. Full bodied with long finish. WOTN. |

10/28/2011 - dgaiser wrote: 92 pointsFrom memory. Pretty modern in style, not shy on the oak, but less so than wines of the past that were made by Denis himself. Explosive nose of sweet red and black fruit, toasty oak and damp forest floor. Ripe and rich on the palate with oak coming through on the finish with sweet tannin and good acidity. Very approachable now, but will only get better as it integrates and takes on secondary notes. |

10/28/2011 - dgaiser wrote: 93 pointsFrom memory. Tight and somewhat unyielding initially. Later in the day, showing more complexity and intensity on the nose. Dominated by violets and red fruit, with some black fruit, herbal notes and minerality. Intense, concentrated (but not overly so) on the palate with tight fine tannin structure and bright acid. Long finish. Needs time or a long decant. |

10/28/2011 - dgaiser wrote: 93 pointsFrom memory. Extremely complex and showing well for such young Charmes. Nose of sweet red and blue fruit with forest floor, damp earth and a bit of oak influence. Clean as can be on the palate with silky fruit and good fine tannin structure. Long finish. |

10/29/2011 - dgaiser wrote: 90 points12.5% abv. Nose dominated by secondary character with mint, chocolate, eucalyptus, cinnamon, tobacco, cherry pie, baked plum, blackberry jam. Medium plus body with sweet mature fruit on the attack with a long finish with sweet, well-resolved tannins and decent acidity. Quite tasty on day two as well. |

8/15/2011 - dgaiser wrote: 91 pointsGolden color. Intense nose of reduced apple cider, framboise liqueur, baked Meyer lemon, cinnamon, acacia and autolytic notes. Rich on the palate despite no dosage. Autolytic flavors and saline chalky minerality dominate the palate along with fainter notes of the cider and lemon coming through. Full bodied with great acid on the finish and long lasting minerality. |

7/29/2011 - dgaiser wrote: 88 pointsDelicious, but simple and starting to pass it's prime. Nearly orange in color. Speaking of orange, nose of orange marmalade, baked quince, apple pie, a hint of oxidation and noticeable alcohol. Starting to dry out (not sugar-wise) on the palate. Medium+ body and a medium finish. |

6/21/2011 - dgaiser wrote: 98 pointsWithout doubt, the finest young Champagne I have had the pleasure of tasting. Intense nose of minerals, white raspberry, bitter chocolate, lime and perfectly integrated oak. Extremely pure and clean with no extra fat. The most intense (tasted DRC Montrachet after and the finish only lasted a few seconds before the Krug took over again) and deep wine I have tasted. |

4/5/2011 - dgaiser wrote: NRHard to judge at this point. Intense nose of ginger, stinky cheese and baked apple. Rich on the palate and a bit disjointed at this point. Not suprising considering this wine's typical need for many years of cellaring. 90 now, but with the potential for 95+ in 20 years based on experience with older Clos de Goisses. |
